Camping trip to Anza this weekend was cut short due to Biting Midges everywhere. Anyone else have this experience?

Anything going on Halloween Weekend? Not neccesarily holiday themed but I've always known it to be the beginning of desert season and I'm excited to visit for the first time in months.
Anyone got anything exciting going on? Any links to check out? Will be in BS but might check out Ocotillo and see what all the desert š are up to. Does anyone rent dirtbikes out there?

Iāve spent a considerable amount of time out in AB, but I think the most rain Iāve ever experienced while camping has been a light sprinkle. Iām an experienced driver with a very capable vehicle that can take me just about anywhere I point it.
With the El NiƱo predictions for this year, Iād like to be a little more cautious and avoid flash floods or finding myself in any peculiar predicaments. As capable as my vehicle may be, I have no desire to test its abilities against Mother Nature! lol
Anyone have some recommendations for good camping spots that stay relatively high and dry, where I could comfortably ride out a little rain if the weather takes a turn? Iād love to hear from those of you who have experienced AB during some serious rain.

Moon rising over Fontās Point. I wonder if I can find them to give them their picture. Taken 12/25/2023. I also have a video footage of them. DM me if you were the Asian couple out there on that day.

Camped here in May and again just last week (early Sept.) and for the first time in 40+ years have experienced swarms of aggressive bees. They go away when the sun goes down, but two of our party got stung twice. Read somewhere they may be killer bees, definitely more aggressive than a standard bee. I get theyāre looking for moisture, but landing and stinging your calf is just the wrong attitude. š. Will try camping in Little Blair Valley to see if itās better. If this becomes a long term situation, then Blair Valley camping is going to see an exodus. Is intervention by the park even an option? I get the environmental concerns and bees are vital, but aggressive bees gaining a foothold will drive away native hives and lower visitation.

Does anyone know of any good spots to try and see any cryptids like Bigfoot or dogmen in the area?

My wife and I would like to watch the Draconid meteor shower on Oct 7-8. Does anyone know of any meet ups?

I will be visiting Anza Borrego in late October and am hoping to camp in little Blair. I am concerned about the conditions of the little Blair valley road after it exits from S2 and down into the valley. I expect to drive down the west side of the valley to find a camp spot. I will have a bronco or 4Runner.
I would love to hear any advice!

Anza Borrego Desert State Park is facing a real threat. A proposed 500KV power line wants to carve right through one of California's most important natural spacesāhome to endangered species and over 900 plant species.
I started a petition because this park shouldn't be sacrificed for infrastructure when better alternatives exist. The planned route would clear hundreds of feet of land, destroying critical habitat for species like the Least Bell's Vireo that depend on it. This isn't just about losing a pretty desertāit's about losing an ecosystem that can't be rebuilt.
There are smarter ways to get the power we need. Renewable energy and intelligent routing could work without sacrificing what makes this place irreplaceable. If you've ever felt like nature shouldn't always lose when developers show up, this one's worth your attention. If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharingāevery bit helps make sure the people making these decisions hear us.

Was hot and muggy, but Jasper Trail was 71° and drizzly before we headed down the hill, so nice. The sky was amazing, I truly do love it out there.

Hey planning to go to Anza Borrego on Sept 15 for 4 days.
We are renting a jeep 4x4, but must admit, I don't have alot of 4X4 skills, mostly just drive my crosstrek on forrest roads. Anyone been out there recently? Looking for road conditions and if I can just do the drive in the jeep put into 4 wheel drive and taking it at moderate speed
thanks in advance

Anyone have any cryptid, creature, occult, or supernatural experience they want to tell me?

I was about to head down to the desert to watch the Perseid meteor shower, but my lame weatherman is saying thereās heavy cloud coverage across Borrego. Is anyone currently there who can vouch whether or not itās worth the drive?

Hi folks! I was planning on catching the meteor shower on the 12th by camping at Blair Valley with some friends (based in Orange County). Unfortunately the weather reports look to be shaping up as pretty cloudy. Iāve checked other spots like J-tree, Mt Laguna, Sheephole Valley Wilderness past J-tree down the 62, etc. They all look partially cloudy at best.
Thinking we may just stick to Blair Valley and hope for some breaks in the clouds, but Iām curious if anyone has any other recommendations that preferably wonāt be cloudy or as cloudy for the meteor shower. Curious as to what everyone else will be doing, and any input is much appreciated! Doesnāt have to be an overnight camping area either. Thanks!

Hi all, LA resident, stargazing first timer here. Iāve never seen the Milky Way in my life. I was planning on staying in Julian and driving down to Anza on the night of 8/12. Weāre not camping or anything, just want a place to throw a picnic blanket down and set up our telescope for the night. Look at some Perseids, the Milky Way, the planetary alignment. So far the biggest contender is Galleta Meadows, because they have the cool statues and may make for some cool night photography. Will it be too crowded? Any other suggestions? We have a 4x4 so some dirt roads are okay.

Hello! Looking to get an idea of how early I should arrive on 8/12 for the first come first serve campgrounds to witness the peak of the Perseids, thanks!

Has anyone on here been out to Fish Creek recently and able to provide some thoughts?
NPS describes the road as rough with sand rocks and boulders. Iām not quite sure what they mean by boulders in terms of the road - if they mean that it would be necessary to literally drive over a boulder with a winch or something, or just avoid them.
I had no problem with fonts point earlier for context. Considering either the wind cave drive, or I guess inspiration wash or hills of the moon wash, for some Badlands tomorrow.
Appreciate the guidance!

Does anyone know if Sand Food (Pholisma Sonorae) is still blooming in the desert? I see that a patch was identified along S22; however, not when.

Hi ! me and friends are planning to camp in the park this upcoming week but I'm a bit lost on where we should camp at without needing a 4x4 to access the area.... Is there any campsites or areas we can camp in that we can drive to with our honda civic?

No thank you
From the article:
But since the Golden Pacific Powerlink is expected to use towers 150 to 200 feet tall to carry the power lines, Fordem expects the towers would meet Federal Aviation Administration requirements to have red lights atop them that would mar the desertās night skies and increase light pollution.
āNobodyās going to camp under the hum of a 500-KV line for a natural world experience,ā she said.
The Anza-Borrego Foundation wants SDG&E to avoid the park altogether, by going above it from the north or below it from the south.
