Shady mental facility is trying to keep my son locked up

• Upvotes

LOCATION: Florida

This post about my 16 year old son. All names are changed for privacy. I noticed that my son Bryan has not been himself for the past couple months since the school started. I tried talking to him but he had a hard time opening up despite me mentioning repeatedly that he can always tell me anything. on Monday he finally opened up and said that he feels depressed and has been having some suicidal thoughts in the past. Bryan has a very close relationship with me and my husband and he always trusts us with his problems. He just sometimes has a hard time opening up and expressing his feelings and problems. I called his primary doctor immediately and they advised me to take him to the emergency room. From the emergency room they transferred him The Mental Facility (MF for short) under Baker Act.

He was admitted to MF on Monday at 11:30pm. When I came home I read the reviews of the facility and they were extremely alarming. Most of them talk about insurance fraud and making patients stay longer than needed while not receiving adequate care. The next day (this Tuesday) I went to visit him during the allowed visitation hours from 3:30 to 4:30pm. While there with my husband we talked to him and he seemed very stable and we talked about his treatment plan. We got him a psychiatrist and a therapist he can see the same day he is released. He felt very good and pretty happy that he will get the treatment and things will be better.

Being aware that they like to keep people longer than necessary, I went to talk to someone and asked them for Bryan to be released right after 72 hours as mandated by law, and I mentioned that I got him a psychiatrist and a therapist to care for him. The person I spoke to said she is not sure that he can be released because he is defiant. I told her that I don't believe that is my son because he has no history of that kind of behavior. He is shy and very receptive to instructions. Then she slowly changed her mind and said maybe it was someone else. When we asked how Bryan looks like, she described a boy with blonde curly hair (my hair is blonde). Bryan has curly brown hair. We showed her Bryan's picture and then suddenly she said it was actually not Bryan who was defiant.

Today (Wednesday) I received a very disturbing phonecall from the facility. The person introduced themselves as a psychiatrist and that she is here to talk about Brandon (yes Brandon, not Bryan). So I corrected her and said his name is Bryan. She then said that he said in front of everyone that he wants to jump off the bridge and hang himself so they will have to keep him longer. This is a complete contradiction to the visit before and I am afraid that he is being mistreated in that facility. We need help to get Bryan out of there so he can get real care by real professionals and not people who want to just grab some money through insurance fraud. I am going to visit Bryan today again. Visiting hours are from 3:30 to 4:30pm. I already called Bryan's insurance to report insurance fraud. And I also emailed and explained the situation to his school counselor and I'm still waiting for her reply.

How do we navigate this situation?

If they don't release him within the 72 hours what should we do, assuming they don't file a court order? The representative from his health insurance company advised that after 72 hours expire we can sign Against Medical Advice (AMA) form and that they have to release him immediately and we will be responsible for his actions after that.

What should I do if they even refuse to release him with the AMA form? From their reviews this sounds like a real possibility to me.

What else can I do to advocate for my son Bryan?

NEED HELP!! Someone stole my identity to steal golf carts and I got arrested…

Location: Texas (Tarrant / Hays County)

Hi All. I will try to keep this as concise as possible.

About a month ago (September 2026) I came back from a European vacation with my gf. We landed at AUS and while going through customs, I was flagged for further review. I get taken to a back room where me and my bags was searched. I asked what is going on and they tell me that I have 3 warrants for my arrest. This is obviously news to me. After confirming it is me they are looking for, I proceed to get arrested and taken to Travis County Jail. After getting booked and due to the fact it was a Saturday and there was a huge football game happening, I didn’t get out until 2AM Monday morning. I got a PR bond for all the charges so thankfully I didn’t have to pay any money up front for bond.

Apparently, someone (in April 2026) used my Texas DL# to rent or buy a golf cart from a store. They communicated with the store only online through email and phone. This is a small store so the phone call was not recorded. The store required a picture to be submitted showing the person buying the cart holding an ID with their name. Here is the interesting part. This person used AI to create a picture with my face and body holding an ID with another name on it. The ID in the picture is clearly edited (I do not have the picture in my possession because it is part of the discovery) and I know the picture is AI because I do not own the shirt that I’m wearing in the picture and the background is not of the house I live in. However, because the image is of me and the DL# is mine, warrants were put out for my arrest. Additionally, someone else picked up the golf cart.

A similar situation also happened in another county, using construction equipment. It is clear my identity has been stolen and being used in a theft ring. Also, I have been in possession of my DL the entire time.

My question here is what is the best avenue to prove this picture is edited/fake? I have legal counsel but I’m afraid they are not technologically savvy enough to prove this.

Thank you and any information is helpful!

Should I report this bail violation? (NH)

My brother-in-law was arrested back in April 2026 and charged with 5 counts of 2nd Degree Assault With A Deadly Weapon and Bodily Injury, and 2 counts of evading arrest. TLDR; after using M*th, he allegedly suffered a mental health episode and proceeded to attack his roommate with a kitchen knife.

After receiving inpatient hospitalization and it was determined that he was competent to stand trial from two separate forensic experts. He was released in July on strict conditional discharge. Given the extensive evidence that included my BIL's own admission of committing the actions and photographs taken by law enforcement and hospital staff, Probable Cause has already been determined, but our family has yet to receive an indictment.

Yesterday I was speaking with the Defendant and asked if any updates had been given. He then informed me that he had spoken directly to the victim after the victim had called him, and that he recorded this conversation without the victim's consent. My BIL believes this should be strong evidence because the victim stated that he wished law enforcement had not been involved.

I told him not to continue communicating with the victim because this is a domestic violence offense, but since our conversation this has been weighing heavily on me. This is a clear violation of his bail requirements. He has also admitted to using meth since his discharge, although he claims he has not touched it more than once.

If you were me, would you report this violation? I'm torn. On one end, as said, this was a clear violation. On the other end, I'm paranoid that the fallout might cause my extended family to - frankly - hate me for reporting their baby boy's violation to the police. My mother-in-law is DEEPLY committed to the defendant. If she were to find out I reported him, it would ruin our relationship.

I am in sincere need of guidance on what is the right thing to do here. As a teenager I was the survivor of domestic assault. This is a serious situation. I do not want to simply let this drop, but I am fearful of the reprocussions.

Thank you, sincerely, in advance for any guidance or your own stories.

First OWI in Wisconsin - L1-B Visa Holder - Looking for Advice

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for advice and support because I'm honestly feeling desperate right now.

I'm a Brazilian citizen living and working in Wisconsin under an L1-B work visa.

A few days ago, I made the mistake of driving after drinking. I was returning home in a rental car when an animal crossed the road. I swerved to avoid it and hit a curb. There was no collision with any other vehicle or person, and nobody was injured.

The police arrived, and I was arrested after a breath test investigation.

On the way to the station/hospital, I refused the blood test because English is my second language and I genuinely did not fully understand what was being explained to me at the time. After I realized what was happening, I agreed to the blood draw, and I was taken to the hospital where a blood sample was collected anyway.

I have already filed a petition in Municipal Court to challenge/revoke the refusal, since I understood there was a 10-day deadline to do so.

What is making me panic now is that I have already received an email from the Brazilian Consulate informing me that my U.S. visa has been revoked. They informed me that I may remain in the United States until the expiration date on my I-94, but I cannot leave and re-enter the country using that visa.

Has anyone gone through something similar?

  • First OWI.
  • No prior criminal history.
  • No injuries.
  • No third parties involved.
  • Work visa (L1-B).
  • Visa already revoked.

I'm especially interested in hearing from anyone who has dealt with immigration consequences after a first OWI/DUI.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

landlord keeps making comments and entering my apartment, what are my options? [California]

I've been dealing with a really uncomfortable situation with my landlord in California for the past six months. He keeps making comments about my appearance when I pay rent in person, and he's let himself into my apartment twice without giving me notice. I asked him to stop texting me late at night, but he just laughed it off. I still have another year on my lease and can't afford to move right now. I'm not sure what I'm allowed to do in this situation or what rights I have as a tenant. Has anyone dealt with something similar or know where I can start?
