Air Travel
Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE) offers multiple daily arrivals to and departures from Belize City to international destinations, including the United States and Canada. You can also fly with either Maya Island Air or Tropic Air to destinations throughout Belize, as well as close international destinations in Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. Another option for tours and charters by air is Astrum Helicopters. Amenities, quick facts, and other helpful information about Philip Goldson International Airport can be found here. In general it is advisable to give yourself a few hours between landing in Belize City to make connecting flights or water taxis. The airport is small and typically not busy but occasionally two or three full size jets will land at once and dump people in the terminal, all trying to clear customs and grab their bags at once. Pro tip: bring your own pen for completing Customs forms, and take advantage of Duty Free on your way out. Alternatively use the new Digital Customs Form
Car Rentals and Driving
Car rentals are available directly across from Terminals 1 and 2 upon your arrival at Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE). The #1 car rental company in the country is Crystal Belize, who offer a fleet of professionally maintained SUVs, cars, trucks and vans. They're also the only rental company that allows you to drive to Tikal in Guatemala, but require you to set it up in advance. A complete list of available rental providers can be found here. Driving in Belize can be challenging at times. Driving is on the right, as in the United States or Canada. In general a 4x4 isn't needed, but ground clearance is very useful. Keep in mind that the roads aren't usually well lit at night outside of major population centers, and there are some EPIC speed bumps leading into and out of villages on major roads. Be on the lookout for some creative driving and people passing in dangerous places, especially around motorcycles, and be sure to have your local driver's license available for any checkpoints you encounter.
Taxis
When in doubt, try the excellent service available from BelizeTaxis.com. They offer excellent hospitality and skilled drivers all over the mainland, including Belize City, Hopkins, Dangriga, Placencia, Orange Walk, Corozal, San Ignacio / Santa Elena and all major tourism destinations in between. They also offer limited service to Tikal, Flores, and Melchor Guatemala as well as Chetumal and Bacalar, Mexico They often book weeks in advance during the busy season and reservations are recommended.
Taxis in Belize (any car with a green license plate) are typically owner operated, and as such, prices tend to be affordable but also vary from driver to driver even for the same route, so confirm your rates and currency before accepting the ride. Many drivers are happy to offer services as you need them or for longer periods of time; many also offer local tours and excursions. The Ladyville Airport Taxi Association operates the taxi service at PGIA. Service is available for transportation to Belize City, the Water Taxi and other destinations throughout Belize and can be reached at +501-225-2125 or +501-610-4450. You can also simply walk out of the airport and available drivers will be there waiting for you. Of note: many drivers and other tourism providers use WhatsApp to communicate and will often coordinate with you via text or voice messages. If a local number doesn't work, try it again on WhatsApp. Few taxi drivers accept credit cards so be sure to have cash.
Water Taxis
Corozal, Sarteneja, San Pedro, and Caye Caulker service is available through Belize Sea Shuttle. They run every day except Tues and Thurs, leaving Caye Caulker at 6am and departing Corozal at 2:30pm.
Getting to the cayes or Chetumal, Mexico is easier than ever thanks to regularly scheduled water taxi operations. If you need service to or from Chetumal, San Pedro, Cay Caulker or Belize City then San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi has you covered. Details about their operation and services can be found here. They also offer full charter services, as well as cargo services for items not exceeding 150lbs. For bookings or additional details they can be reached [via email](mailto:info@belizewatertaxi.com) or by calling any of their destinations. Likewise, the recently returned Water Jets International offers service to Caye Caulker, San Pedro and Chetumal. Contact info is available for all their offices as well as their email here. If travelling from Mexico be certain your credentials have received the appropriate stamp to avoid delays and possible fines from Mexican passport control authorities.
To get from the airport (PGIA) to the Water Taxi in Belize City, simply take any taxi from the airport. Ball park price is about $30usd for one or two guests.
Guatemala water taxi
From Punta Gorda, Requena's Charter Service can take you to Puerto Barrios, or Livingston, Guatemala. As with all things international transportation, it is advisable to check and make sure the desired timetables are indeed operational and accurate. Currently they operate Monday through Friday at 9am going to Guatemala, and do not operate on weekends or holidays.
Honduras water taxi
Full post here
The boat leaves from Puerto Cortes to Mango Creek and Placencia on Mondays and returns on Fridays. They post confirmation on their Facebook . Transport from Puerto Cortes from San Pedro Sula took a little over an hour. To find the ferry terminal, I got dropped off in the Laguna neighborhood and walked south across the smaller bridge back to the mainland. Immediately next to the bridge, near a restaurant-bar called El Delfin, there is a fish market. Walk all the way to the back of the fish market and you will see the boat and the ticketing office.
San Pedro Cart Rentals
When in San Pedro (and various other places), you might decide you need a cart, which is the ubiquitous form of transportation. drive carefully and obey all the normal rules of the road. Your driver's license from home should suffice; have it with you at all times when you are driving.

Shuttles
Shuttle services are available across Belize and represent an affordable semi-private method of travel when compared to the local bus system. There are many, so the list of providers below is just the very beginning. Most are easy to find online, especially on Facebook. He aware that if they don't reach a minimum capacity to run the route, you may find it gets cancelled and you need to make other arrangements at the last minute.

Buses
Bus service is made possible by dozens of independent companies that drive fixed routes throughout the country as well as through service to Mexico. Understanding the Belize bus schedules is important if you are trying to travel around Belize economically. Schedules do change periodically – especially on holidays – so you cannot guarantee that they reflect the exact schedule that is currently being used. If timing is critical for a bus ride you would like to take then please confirm with the transport employees at your nearest bus terminal. 🌴 Daily Life 🌴 It takes a village...
Today, the nonprofit I volunteer as a fundraising coordinator for in Belize, the Cayo Animal Welfare Society (CAWS), held a low cost spay and neuter clinic in my village. So proud to help bring this to my own community of Cristo Rey! We had all 36 spots filled by 8:45 am and the clinic was done, animals and pet owners and veterinarians home resting, by 1:00 pm. It was amazing! Our village chairman stayed the whole session, helping where he could. Our volunteers were registering animals and staying with animals post-surgery until they woke up. Our board talked with villagers and volunteers about upcoming events. A local resort, Table Rock Jungle Lodge, who helped sponsor the clinic, also paid for lunches for vets and volunteers and helped with additional onsite volunteers! And most importantly 36 animals will not be bringing unwanted litters into our village. It was a beautiful experience!

🎫 Travel Info 🧳 Rate my Itinerary
Hi!
My gf and I will be visiting in mid-November for an 8 day trip to Belize. We’re so excited and would like to make sure we’re not missing out on anything. Here’s what we have planned:
Day 1 - land at 1:30pm, pick up rental car, drive to San Ignacio and check into airbnb. We’ll probably go into town and explore and grab food there. Open to suggestions for dinner!
Day 2 - up early to have breakfast/coffee, then do a Xunatunich tour with cave tubing and lunch in the afternoon.
Day 3 - another early morning, coffee/breakfast then head to a river pontoon cruise that will take us to 3-5 waterfalls to swim in with lunch included as well. We’ll check out of our airbnb prior to leaving and then drive into guatemala through tikal when we wrap up the tour around 4pm. We have a hotel located near lago pechen itza that we’ll check into.
Once we arrive we will grab dinner and explore flores and the little lake towns
Day 4 - blue crater tour in flores guatemala, after just explore the hotel and maybe kayak the lake
Day 5 - check out early, return the rental car, ferry to ambergris caye. Check into airbnb, grab lunch and explore the island by golf cart
Day 6 - Hol chan reserve, then end the day with dinner and bar hopping
Day 7 - Blue hole flyover
Day 8 - Ferry to caye caulker, explore and snorkel then ferry back to ambergris
Day 9 - early morning breakfast, check out and take the ferry back to belize city for our 2:30pm flight
Would love to hear any food/coffee suggestions or recommendations on changing anything. We have alot planned but are a pretty active couple and we want to see as much as possible!

🧭 Activities 🚣♂️ Suggestions for Fly Fishing Ambergris Caye Belize
Hi all, I’d like to get anyone’s suggestion that have fly fished in or around Ambergris Caye (San Pedro) in Belize.
I’m from Seattle and love fly fishing in the river and the sound for trout.
I plan to visit Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker each for 3 or 4 nights during the end of December 2026. I plan to do a half or full day flats with a guide targeting bonefish or whatever is out there (permit, tarpon, snook).
I would have a day or two (and free hours here and there) without any activities planned out so far, and would love to fly fish during this down time.
Wanted to know if it is worth it to buy my own singe setup to bring with me on this trip to DIY and solo fish around the cayes from the shore? Just explore, wade, and fish.
Is it even possible to wade around on the beach to potentially catch something?
If so, what singe setup do you recommend? From searching online, it seems like a single setup would be a fast action 9 ft 9 wt rod and a saltwater, sealed drag, large arbor reel.
I’d like to have this setup to be under $600 if possible (justifying for not getting another full day guide).
What rod and reel would you recommend to get that can fit in this budget range? FYI, was looking at the Echo Boost Blue rod and Echo Bravo reel.
Any suggestions or guidance would help, thank you much!!

🤔 Unique Question 🤔 Lawyer needed
Who’s the best lawyer in Belize to settle civil business matters? No bullshit, no long game, no gaslighting or ghosting.
Sabido is not one Id recommend nor any of them in Belmopan. I have a solid case, clear breach of contract but I work outside of Belize.
Please recommend one that would be willing to take the case past mediation to filing a formal lawsuit.
Please help as this has been a 2 year ongoing issue.

🛌 Accomodations 🛖 Bird watching and Mayan ruins?
Hello! We would like to visit Belize in January or February 2027. One of us is interested in birdwatching and the other wants to see Mayan ruins. We are fit mountain bikers and trail runners, so physical activity is a plus. (But we are not interested in a beach trip.) Can anyone recommend a lodge? We’ve been looking at Black Rock near San Ignacio.

🎫 Travel Info 🧳 Spending money
I’ll be visiting San Pedro for 6 days soon. I’m wondering how much money to take along. Its needs to be enough for like two meals a day, transport ( I plan on walking a lot but occasionally taking taxis), souvenirs, maybe one excursion I precooked a few but looking to do one more.
EDIT: I know I can use my card but I’m looking to see how much to budget for my stay. I was looking at about 100usd/day. Additionally I prefer use cash when I travel will that not be accepted ? (again this is a preference I know I can use my card)

🛌 Accomodations 🛖 Recommendations on Belize Itinerary
Advice on Belize Accommodations
Hello, I’m working on planning a trip in Feb and need reassurance/guidance on plans.
We have a total of 8 nights.
3 booked at Ka’ana
-Arrival day (maybe see iguanas, butter fly place, or the local ruins) only have a few hours this day
-Xunantunich ruins and Rio On Pools
- ATM
I am fairly confident about the first three days.
Considered Chaa Creek instead of KA’ana but otherwise happy with this itinerary.
Next headed over to Hopkins area (where I need help)
- I planned to stay at the Lodge at Jaguar Reef for 2 days
- Day 1 visit to Mayflower Bocawina Park and maybe bioluminescent tour in evening if it’s right time of month
- Day 2 Cockscomb Wildlife Basin Activities
I see excellent things about Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge
- I was thinking about adding one day there before I going to Hopkins. It would be an open day to enjoy the property- bike, hike, maybe an on-site activity.
If I add this day, I lose one of my days at the lodge at Jaguar reef but I can still do the hike in Mayflower when I transfer from Sleeping Giant to Hopkins. My one day in Hopkins would be visiting the Jaguar wildlife basin. I would lose out on the bioluminescence tour.
From here I have 3 nights left— I can go to Ambergris Caye or I can stay on mainland and use these last 3 nights to extend my time in Hopkins or go to Palacina.
Here is what it would look like if I went to the Cayes:
I was planning on staying at Matachica Resort on Ambergris Caye. Resort looks beautiful, but then I read a good amount of negative things on Reddit about AC not having very nice beaches.
- if I stay at Matachica I would do:
1) half day deep sea fishing/ relax at resort in afternoon
2) Snorkel Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley (maybe also go to Caye Caulker if trip included it)
3) free day- secret beach (doesn’t sound to appealing from what I’ve read), get massage
Alternatively, I save myself the hassle of traveling from the mainland out to the Caye’s and I use those last 3 days for time in Palencia/Hopkins!
So, after Hopkins- I could travel down to Palencia and stay at Naia resort and spa. From here I could do the following:
On the transfer stop to see Scarlet Macaws
Day 1) silke caye snorkling day trip/ deep sea fishing
Day 2) Could do Monkey River Cruise (seems a little boring), would probably rather enjoy resort property/check out town, take another boat trip, get massage—looks like they have a nice one
My other option is don’t go to Palencia and just extend Hopkins by 3 days
1 day at sleeping giant
2 extra days at Hopkins - both would be water days- Silke Caye and then maybe a fishing day or island hopping day
I don’t know what activities are worth it and how to allocate my time/location. I feel like I have more time if I choose NOT to do Matachica but I want a good beach/snorkeling experience to end the trip. Am I missing out on the beaches/snorkling up there? Is down south actually better since it’s less crowded? Should I just extend my time in Hopkins and not try to go down south or to the cayes? If I extend my time in Hopkins should I change resorts to Hamanasi Adventure Resort (it seems to be better rated) or stay at the Lodge at Jaguar Reef the entire time?
I appreciate your recommendations!

🎫 Travel Info 🧳 excursions/website
I’m planning a trip to Belize and have been looking into excursions while staying in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.
I came across a tour on BelizeFunTours.com called “Belize ATV Cave Tubing and Zipline Tour from San Pedro by Boat.”
It sounds like so much fun since it combines a few activities into one excursion, but I wanted to see if anyone has booked through this website before. Is it legitimate and reliable? How was your experience with the booking process, transportation, tour guides, and overall excursion?
I’ve also noticed that a lot of the excursions I’m finding seem to depart from Belize City rather than San Pedro, so I’m trying to figure out which tours are actually worth booking from where we’ll be staying.
I’d love recommendations for:
● ATV, cave tubing, and ziplining tours that depart from San Pedro or include boat transportation.
● Any reputable tour companies or websites you’ve personally booked through.
● Other fun excursions from San Pedro, whether that’s snorkeling, visiting the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley, island hopping, or something unique that’s a must-do in Belize.
I’m open to adventure activities and experiences that are worth the money! I’d especially appreciate hearing from anyone who has done the ATV/cave tubing/zipline combination or traveled from San Pedro to mainland Belize for excursions.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations or advice! 😊🇧🇿
