Today, the nonprofit I volunteer as a fundraising coordinator for in Belize, the Cayo Animal Welfare Society (CAWS), held a low cost spay and neuter clinic in my village. So proud to help bring this to my own community of Cristo Rey! We had all 36 spots filled by 8:45 am and the clinic was done, animals and pet owners and veterinarians home resting, by 1:00 pm. It was amazing! Our village chairman stayed the whole session, helping where he could. Our volunteers were registering animals and staying with animals post-surgery until they woke up. Our board talked with villagers and volunteers about upcoming events. A local resort, Table Rock Jungle Lodge, who helped sponsor the clinic, also paid for lunches for vets and volunteers and helped with additional onsite volunteers! And most importantly 36 animals will not be bringing unwanted litters into our village. It was a beautiful experience!

Hi!

My gf and I will be visiting in mid-November for an 8 day trip to Belize. We’re so excited and would like to make sure we’re not missing out on anything. Here’s what we have planned:

Day 1 - land at 1:30pm, pick up rental car, drive to San Ignacio and check into airbnb. We’ll probably go into town and explore and grab food there. Open to suggestions for dinner!

Day 2 - up early to have breakfast/coffee, then do a Xunatunich tour with cave tubing and lunch in the afternoon.

Day 3 - another early morning, coffee/breakfast then head to a river pontoon cruise that will take us to 3-5 waterfalls to swim in with lunch included as well. We’ll check out of our airbnb prior to leaving and then drive into guatemala through tikal when we wrap up the tour around 4pm. We have a hotel located near lago pechen itza that we’ll check into.
Once we arrive we will grab dinner and explore flores and the little lake towns

Day 4 - blue crater tour in flores guatemala, after just explore the hotel and maybe kayak the lake

Day 5 - check out early, return the rental car, ferry to ambergris caye. Check into airbnb, grab lunch and explore the island by golf cart

Day 6 - Hol chan reserve, then end the day with dinner and bar hopping

Day 7 - Blue hole flyover

Day 8 - Ferry to caye caulker, explore and snorkel then ferry back to ambergris

Day 9 - early morning breakfast, check out and take the ferry back to belize city for our 2:30pm flight

Would love to hear any food/coffee suggestions or recommendations on changing anything. We have alot planned but are a pretty active couple and we want to see as much as possible!

🧭 Activities 🚣‍♂️ Suggestions for Fly Fishing Ambergris Caye Belize

Hi all, I’d like to get anyone’s suggestion that have fly fished in or around Ambergris Caye (San Pedro) in Belize.

I’m from Seattle and love fly fishing in the river and the sound for trout.

I plan to visit Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker each for 3 or 4 nights during the end of December 2026. I plan to do a half or full day flats with a guide targeting bonefish or whatever is out there (permit, tarpon, snook).

I would have a day or two (and free hours here and there) without any activities planned out so far, and would love to fly fish during this down time.

Wanted to know if it is worth it to buy my own singe setup to bring with me on this trip to DIY and solo fish around the cayes from the shore? Just explore, wade, and fish.

Is it even possible to wade around on the beach to potentially catch something?

If so, what singe setup do you recommend? From searching online, it seems like a single setup would be a fast action 9 ft 9 wt rod and a saltwater, sealed drag, large arbor reel.

I’d like to have this setup to be under $600 if possible (justifying for not getting another full day guide).

What rod and reel would you recommend to get that can fit in this budget range? FYI, was looking at the Echo Boost Blue rod and Echo Bravo reel.

Any suggestions or guidance would help, thank you much!!
