Any suggestions for this subreddit?

Do you guys have any suggestions on what you want changing on this subreddit? I made my own set of rules and I would like to know what you think about it. Also the subreddit banner and picture, do you like it or do you want me to change it to something else?

In regards to the rules, I am considering adding a political rule because it leads to fights but also these posts are about bolton and I don't want to discourage people from posting on this subreddit. Thoughts?

Looking to play casual football in Bolton? ⚽️

Post image

Sharing this for anyone in Bolton who wants to play football and meet new people. I help a non-profit organise casual 8 a side games at Kearsley Academy BL4 8HY every Friday 7pm-8pm.

Ideal if you're based in Farmworth, Walkden, Hill Top, Linnyshaw, Moses Gate, Prestolee, Stoneclough, Clifton and the wider Bolton area.

All levels are welcome, even if you’re not that fit or haven’t played in years. There’s no commitment, you just turn on and play whenever you're available

Great way to improve fitness, confidence and your social circle. I've met all my best friends through the game.

Drop a quick comment or DM if you fancy playing and I’ll add you to the players list ⚽️

Made a short video about meeting Egyptologist Joann Fletcher at The Mummy screening in Bolton

Last week I posted a photo from meeting Professor Joann Fletcher at The Mummy screening at Smithills Hall in Bolton, and a few of you were interested, so I made a short video about the day.

It covers the drive up, the talk on the history of mummies, and meeting Joann. I’m on the Go Higher programme at the University of Liverpool, working towards studying Egyptology, so it was a special one for me. It also gets into how people in Europe used to eat mummies as medicine, and the 180,000 mummified cats sold in Liverpool in 1890.

Would love to hear what you think. Has anyone else been to one of her talks?

Went to Mummies in the Hall at Smithills Hall in Bolton on Saturday and got to meet Professor Joann Fletcher. I’m a fan of her work, and we had a quick chat about my plans to study Egyptology. I’m currently doing the University of Liverpool’s Go Higher course, so meeting her at this stage of my own journey meant a lot.

The afternoon included a talk and a screening of The Mummy. Didn’t get to ask a question during the session, but came away with a photo and had a brilliant day.

Has anyone else been to one of her talks?

Why are there so many traffic lights in your town and why do they stay on red for so long even at night when there’s no other cars around?

UPDATE - thanks to everyone who shared and commented. Freddy thankfully returned home safe in the early hours of this morning! ☺️

Hello please can everyone keep an eye out for Freddy who has been missing since 7am yesterday from around the Chorley Old Road area.

He doesn't normally go out for this long and we're really worried about him!

Any information would be massively appreciated

r/Bolton, what are your restaurant recommendations? (without the app promotion)

I'm sure by now you've likely seen the other post on this topic, and possibly like myself been disappointed that it was merely a cynical ploy to utilise reddit to market an app, and not a community discussion about your favourite restaurants in town.

So, with that in mind, where do you prefer to eat in and around Bolton? What's your favourite restaurant and why?

Driving instructor recommendations

Hi,
I'm looking for a driving instructor.
Can anyone recommend one in the Bolton area?

I've been told that Bolton is ideal for learning and taking the test compared to other parts of the Greater Manchester region. Is that true?

Thanks

Does nobody else think its mental we're one of the only towns with skinny bins despite being one of the largest towns in the uk?

Basically the title. My other half is from down south his family has the massive fuck off bins we used to have. My brothers gf lived in Southport and they also had the big bins.

Bolton is also a town known for big families and having a big population. There is also a big rat problem here (the destruction of the New Bury Mill exacerbated this problem in Farnworth). If the bins were emptied more regularly and were swapped to big bins, there would be much less rats in the streets. I find it odd, why on earth did they get rid of them and why are we the only people who have to suffer with this ??? Its a public health concern yet nobody cares because we are all used to it now I guess.
