New posting rule.

Hello fellow authors, I have a new rule that I want to talk about and also further explain one.

NEW RULE: If you guys have read a book or want to suggest a book (that isn't your own) You can post it even if you have already posted once a week. You must post it with the title [Good read] The rules about this is that you aren't allowed to use an alternative account to further post about your book.

OLD RULE EXPLINATION: So people have seemed to be confused about posting once a week. When I say once a week I mean ONCE. A. WEEK. People haven't seemed to understand what I mean so I will explain. Except for what I have explained above once a week means once a week. If you have mutiple books you will have to post them once a week and the next week promote book two. It does NOT mean post once a week for each book. I understand that not all of you agree with this. I am sorry about that.

Punishment for breaking the posting once a week rule is

1st offense: 10 day ban

2nd offense: 30-day ban

3rd offense: Permanent ban

AI accusers will be banned permanently

I am sick of people being hateful and accusing others of using or writing using AI. AI can be talked about here but if ANYONE accuses another in the comments of using AI for their cover or writing they will be permanently banned. Any ban appeal that they try to do will be denied.

Consider this a notice to everyone.

Ebook conversion is breaking my brain. What service do you use?

I thought the hard part was writing the book. Turns out the hard part is getting it onto a Kindle without it looking like a ransom note. I've spent the better part of two weekends trying to convert my Word doc into an epub and every tool I try introduces a new problem. Calibre broke my scene breaks. Kindle Create turned my italicized thoughts into regular text. Sigil requires me to basically learn HTML which I did not sign up for. All I want is a file I can upload to KDP that doesn't embarrass me. Is ebook formatting just inherently painful or am I missing something obvious?

Sport Anatomy: An Adult Coloring Book About Sports Injuries and Rehabilitation

• Upvotes

Interested in anatomy, fitness, or sports science? I created a sports anatomy coloring book designed to make learning about the human body more visual and engaging.

Sport Anatomy: Injury & Rehabilitation Coloring Book explores the anatomy behind movement, common sports injuries, and rehabilitation through coloring.

It may be a good fit for:

- 🏀 Sports and fitness enthusiasts

- 💪 People interested in muscles and human movement

- 🧠 Students exploring anatomy and sports science

- 🎨 Anyone looking for an educational alternative to traditional coloring books

My goal was to combine the relaxing experience of coloring with an opportunity to explore how the human body moves and how sports injuries affect it.

Thazvaari Nights - A 165-page military sci-fi novella from my original universe, VESSELBORN

• Upvotes

I've recently published Thazvaari Nights, a military science-fiction novella set within VESSELBORN, an original multimedia universe I've been developing through fiction, music, worldbuilding, and game development.

The story follows a relay engineer and four genetically Engineered contractors tasked with restoring an abandoned installation in the lawless region of inland Thazvaar.

The job is supposed to be quiet. By nightfall, three competing factions are closing in, the installation is failing, and the contractors have to survive long enough for extraction.

It's a 165-page first edition, available in PDF and EPUB for $5.

There's also a free excerpt available on the product page, so readers can explore the writing before deciding whether to purchase.

Ebook formatting looks different on every device?

Uploaded my ebook to KDP last month. Tested it on my phone, looked fine. Then my friend sent me a screenshot from her Paperwhite and the chapter headings are a completely different size. My mom pulled it up on the Kindle app on her iPad and there's a random blank page between chapters 4 and 5 that doesn't exist on any other device.

Is this just how ebooks work? Like is there inherent variation between devices and I need to accept that? Or did I screw something up in the formatting and there's actually a way to make it look consistent everywhere?

I used Kindle Create to format and exported a KPF file. Is that the problem? Should I be using epub instead? I'm confused about what file format is even correct at this point.

The themes of Severed Legacy: Memory, Identity, and Responsibility.

I hate marketing and my last few posts promoting my book have been very tongue-in-cheek. This time, I'm going to actually present my book's core principles and explain what I think makes it interesting. And it's still going to be dripping with sarcasm because taking myself seriously causes me physical harm.

The Hook

Severed Legacy is darkly comical, increasingly grim fantasy about a cowardly chef who's been classified as a Villain by the world's magic system. After accidentally killing the Hero prophesized to save the world, he winds up taking on that mission himself. He has absolutely no idea what he's doing, but the ghost of the dead Hero is still around to offer (questionable) advice.

Core Inspiration

Heavily inspired by the Buddhist philosophy of Samsara (Asmaras, the name of the world, is a literal anagram of it), Severed Legacy is about cycles and suffering. It's about the recurring patterns of ignorance and self-delusion that trap people and prevent them from finding peace. It's an exploration of the relationship between intent and consequence.

To be clear, I'm not claiming some profound understanding of Buddhism. I'm simply interested in the ways people perpetuate their own suffering through ignorance, attachment, and repeated mistakes.

Themes

Memory: What do we carry from the past? In Severed Legacy, memories are a tangible force that shape everything. Magic draws upon memory to control and guide it. Memories of the dead can be called upon and shaped into knowledge and power. A group of Immortals works to preserve, not only their own memories, but the histories of the world. Shifters can touch the minds of others and relive their memories alongside them.

But what about the things we forget? What about the things we can't–or refuse to–understand? If we're shaped by our memories, and memories are imperfect interpretations of the past, then what are we?

Identity: Who others expect us to be, who we want to be, and who we actually are–these are three questions the story continually explores. More importantly, it examines what happens when these expectations clash. Are people capable of change, or are they doomed to make the same mistakes over and over again?

Labels take center stage in Severed Legacy, with a magical force called the Measure bestowing Roles upon some, identifying them as Hero or Villain. The labels are internal, visible only to the individual, but society and culture have grown up around the belief that these categories have significance and meaning. If someone classified as a Villain grows up to do evil, was it predetermined by the Measure, or did a lifetime of being treated as evil make them that way?

Responsibility: If we are shaped by a past we cannot change, how much responsibility do we bear for the people we become? How do we judge the actions of someone seeking to do good when their every action leads to disaster? What if they're right about the problem but catastrophically wrong about the solution?

"Do the ends justify the means?" is a familiar question, but who has the authority pass that judgement? Can we trust ourselves to do it?

Psychological Themes / Content Warning

Severed Legacy is about trauma, guilt, obsession, and abuse. Characters hate themselves and others. They hurt themselves and others. Love is weaponized and used to exert control. Violence, blood, and death flow freely as the story progresses. Some depictions of wounds and injuries drifts into body horror.

There is a single scene, relatively early on, with a non-graphic sexual encounter involving ethically ambiguous consent and power dynamics. The chapter includes a content warning for this as well.

It's also funny!

I'm not going to pretend that this story doesn't have some fucked up themes and imagery, but I try never to let it wallow in misery for long. At the same time, I try to keep the humor grounded. People aren't just quipping constantly to undercut tension. The humor is character driven, often arriving as an unintended consequence of someone's actions.

The premise is generic...

There's a chosen-one Hero, a sinister criminal overlord, a yandere / manic pixie dream girl love interest, and a magical system that identifies Heroes and Villains.

These are familiar fantasy ingredients. Familiar labels. And labels are never wrong, are they?

Oh god, that sounds like a litRPG? / Oh yay, that sounds like a litRPG!

The Measure provides a litRPG-adjacent magic system that functions, in many ways, like a stat screen. There are stats, skills, and supernatural progression, but optimized builds aren't a component of the story. The numbers exist but are rarely exposed to the reader. What's important is what the system does to those living beneath it–and what happens when they start understanding it.

You see, what I've done is positioned myself perfectly to ensure I make nobody happy. People who hate litRPGs won't want to touch this with a ten-foot pole, and those who love them will feel like I don't go into the numerical depth they prefer.

The Story ends on November 23, 2026!

Severed Legacy is being published on Royal Road and has garnered an audience of 189 followers. With 14 votes it is currently sitting at an overall rating of 4.89 out of 5 stars. Just over 241k words have been published so far, with the final count coming in at around 275k.

I've finished the book and scheduled the final chapter. Chapters will continue to come out M-W-F until the last chapter releases on November 23, 2026.

I remembered the link this time!

1,200 claimants. One rightful heir. Can you untangle a disputed inheritance?

Hi everyone!

I’d like to share my mystery puzzle book, The Will Is a Lie, published under my pen name, Ellis Rookwell.

Miriam Arden has left a fortune—and instructions for finding her rightful heir. Her nephew Julian has produced a will naming himself. Both stories cannot stand.

You play the investigator hired to work through the evidence: letters, photographs, newspaper clippings, and adoption records. Your task is to connect the clues, cross-reference a register of 1,200 claimants, and find the person whose identity fits the whole trail.

The book includes a separate practice case, working grids, tiered hints, and solutions kept apart at the end. Everything needed to investigate is inside the book; you just bring a pencil.

Book link:

If you enjoy family secrets, document-based mysteries, and the moment when an overlooked detail finally clicks, this might be your kind of case.

Thanks for taking a look!

The Golden Tern: a literary sci-fi mystery set in Hong Kong, 2087 (free novella, eight chapters)

Hong Kong, 2087. A container ship that should never have sailed leaves port at night and sinks before midnight, with Dr. Preston Banner's father aboard. The inquiry calls it human error. Preston, a hospital doctor, checks the record himself.

A literary science-fiction mystery with a noir sensibility: restrained, melancholic, and quietly menacing, told by an artificial intelligence whose devotion to the record is tested by the human suffering that the record cannot fully explain.

The Golden Tern is Edition One of The Casebook of Preston Banner. It runs about 20,000 words in eight chapters and is free to read on Substack. A Kindle edition is in review with Amazon.

[Author Self-Promo] My mom's new boyfriend is Dracula and i'm cooked.

He’s tall, has dark hair, and is really, really creepy. Ugly too (although my mom does not think so because i heard them kiss and i about threw up).

His name is Vladimir. VLAD-IMIR!!! And i'm the only person in this family who thinks that's a red flag.

The second was that he didn't show up in the TV's reflection when he came over for the first time. My friend Howie and i even followed them to their first date at the movies and he didn't show up on camera (we got yelled at by a boomer who needed to relax).

i tried telling my brother, but he doesn't believe me... will you?

--

Note from author: The above is written from the perspective of Avery Foster, the protagonist of my debut YA vampire horror-comedy, Step-Dracula, released October 27, 2026.

"Avery Foster has enough problems. Her father is gone, her older brother is leaving for college, and her mother is ready to start dating again.

That last part has her especially worried.

Avery is convinced her mom’s charming new boyfriend, Vladimir, is a vampire.

And not just any vampire.

Dracula.

With her best friend by her side, Avery must convince her family that Dracula isn’t just after her mother’s heart before it’s too late."

FREE KINDLE BOOK | The Purpose Seekers - What If Success Isn’t Enough?

Have you ever worked hard to achieve something, finally got there, and then wondered, Is this really what I wanted?
Maybe you’re building a business. Maybe you’re climbing the career ladder. Maybe you’re trying to figure out what you actually want from life.
You can be ambitious, productive, and successful on paper while still feeling that something isn’t quite aligned.

That’s the question behind my book, The Purpose Seekers.

I’ve spent more than 35 years working in business, built 12 businesses, and worked with over 75 founders and business owners. Along the way, I’ve seen how easily we can become so focused on building something successful that we forget to ask whether we’re building something that reflects who we really are.

This book grew out of real conversations, observations, and work with founders navigating growth, uncertainty, identity, and purpose.
It challenges the idea that purpose is a magical destination waiting to be discovered.
Instead, it explores how we build purpose through the way we think, the decisions we make, the beliefs we question, and the things we choose to create.
It’s about aligning who you are with what you do — without pretending that life, business, or personal growth comes with easy answers.
I’m making the Kindle edition FREE for a limited time because I’d like more people to have the opportunity to read it, question its ideas, and decide what resonates with them.

FREE Kindle promotion: October 29–30.

If you’re at a point in life where success alone doesn’t feel like a complete answer, perhaps this book is for you.

📚 Get your free copy here: https://a.co/d/0esbYPcU

I’m the author, so naturally, I’m biased. But I’d genuinely welcome thoughtful feedback from readers who decide to give it a chance.

[Self-Promo] The Ashen Ascension | The moon shattered the night he was born. Thirteen years later, he's still struggling to become a cultivator.

In a world where strength determines your future, what happens when you're the one person who can't seem to grow stronger?

Meet Mateo Alvarez.

He's thirteen years old, and for seven years he's trained to become a cultivator.

While others advance, Mateo struggles with something most take for granted: holding onto Qi.

He isn't the strongest, the fastest, or the most talented.

But there's one thing he refuses to do.

Give up.

The night Mateo was born, the Silver Moon shattered. Nobody understands why, and Mateo has no idea that the mystery surrounding that night may be connected to his own destiny.

What begins as one boy's determination to prove himself becomes a much larger journey involving ancient secrets, powerful cultivation sects, dangerous adventures, and unlikely friendships.

I'm writing The Ashen Ascension: Book One, The Boy Beneath the Broken Moon, an ongoing epic fantasy audio novel published on Pocket FM.

What you'll find in the story:

  • Eastern fantasy and cultivation
  • A protagonist who earns his progress
  • Swordsmanship, elemental powers, and ancient mysteries
  • Adventure, humor, and emotional moments
  • Companions who gradually become chosen family
  • A world with powerful sects, hidden legacies, and secrets waiting to be discovered

One of the themes I care about most is that strength isn't just about becoming powerful. It's also about having people beside you who won't abandon you when things get difficult.

And Mateo lives by four simple principles:

Never Give Up. Always Get Up. Always Move Forward. Never Surrender.

I'm an independent author building this world one episode at a time. If you enjoy cultivation fantasy, underdog protagonists, and stories about friendship and perseverance, I'd love for you to give it a listen.

🎧 Listen to The Ashen Ascension on Pocket FM:

https://listen.pocketfm.com/2IE7/2osx0lnw

I'd especially appreciate feedback on the characters and whether Mateo's journey makes you want to keep listening.

Thank you for supporting independent authors and giving new stories a chance!

Tabletop Guidebook for problem players and GMs

Hey all!

I've played tabletop like Pathfinder, Dungeons and Dragons and Gurps with some of the most problematic players (henceforth known as asshats) ever seen.

How in the seven fucks did this happen, you ask?

I spent my late teens and twenties in prison for a crime I did not commit.

(I'm also tired of the righteous, wrongly accused convict trope. If I have to hear another fucking person say they're innocent I'm gonna... Commit tax evasion. Or something.)

If you have a problem with a felon writer, you can join me in hating that asshat from 15 years ago. At least you don't have to also take responsibility for him

Anyways, the actual point:

I played with the asshats so you don't have to.

Here's the catch... Sometimes an asshat just needs the proper guidance.

In this book I share lessons I've learned about Gaming and being a person everyone wants at your gaming table. Ultimately, it's a book about not being an asshat.

Come read if you think you're an asshat, think your players are asshats, like the word my gratuitous use of the word "fuck" or just like gaming.

I did hard time, so you don't have to have a hard time.

And also because I was an asshole. That's neither here nor there.

https://a.co/d/0hEnVWCQ

Responsible use of ai commitment:

We (my company) believe in the responsible use of ai, that using it to do your work for you is no different from stealing work.

Disclosure: This book is also a resource for current inmates. They asked for coloring pages. I did generate 20 coloring pages. This is the extent of what I've done. I won't even try to justify that. Shrug

Hi, I'm M. Bauwens, an independent suspense and thriller author.

My new novel, The Toe Tag Killer, releases November 1, and I'm sharing the prologue and first three chapters free.

No purchase required.

Raelyn Brenner is supposed to be celebrating her college graduation. Instead, her father, a private investigator, has disappeared.

His truck is found abandoned at the old Wilson property. His office is in disarray. Someone has changed the locks and wiped his passwords.

And then there's the woman found beneath an orange tarp on a lonely Maine road.

Someone has attached a toe tag to her body.

Raelyn doesn't know how to walk away from a mystery. Especially when it involves her father.

Read the free preview:
https://mbauwens.substack.com

Find the book:
https://amazon.com/author/mbauwens

The Toe Tag Killer is Book 1 of the Raelyn Brenner series. Available November 1 in ebook (Kindle Unlimited) and print editions.

A question for thriller readers: Do you enjoy a series with an ongoing mystery that carries into the next book, or do you prefer every major storyline to be resolved in each installment?

I'm curious because that question influenced how I approached Book 2.

Sleep physician, 30 years. A patient told me "I'm not wearing that CRAP." That's how my book got its title. CPAP Is Sexy, Nov 3, Kindle $0.99 launch week

Pulmonary and sleep physician here. Thirty years' practice in Indiana's Amish country.

Patient sat across from me, arms folded. His wife had watched him stop breathing at night for years. I gave him the list. Stroke, heart attack, dementia, premature death.

He cut me off. "I am not wearing that CRAP."

Fear of death doesn't motivate people to change. So I stopped leading with death. I said, "Studies also show CPAP improves intimacy, desire, and sexual function."

Arms unfolded. A few minutes later he was at the front desk, demanding to be scheduled that very night.

That's the book.

For people who have sleep apnea and don't know it. For people who got the machine and quit. And for the partner lying awake listening to the pauses.

CPAP isn't a walker. It's gym equipment for your brain. Energy. Presence. Intimacy. Today, not someday.

Stories first, studies second, practical tips throughout.

Launches November 3, during Drowsy Driving Prevention Week. Kindle is $0.99 through November 10, then $9.99. Paperback and hardcover too.

[FREE Kindle eBook sample] Get the first three chapters of my urban fantasy novel Escaping the Darkness!

I'm an indie author just starting out and my book will be on Amazon early December. It's part of a series to be titled A Tale of Mirth and Madness, and it's intended as pure entertainment and escapism, an action adventure story combined with a bit of mystery and comedy in a fictional urban fantasy setting, aesthetically inspired by touches of steampunk and Gothic horror.

Here's the blurb:

In a mist-shrouded land wracked by turmoil and unrest, a man with no past and a woman with no future face a greater mystery than anything they could have imagined when they are invited to partake in a secretive gathering – one that is to be held in an abandoned village where no one ever goes, on the borders of a vast and trackless wilderness.

But first they must find a way to get there.

Strange things are stirring once again in this land of malady and madness, in which ancient terrors long thought to be fable and myth are beginning to come awake, and return. Soon everything will change and nothing will remain the same – for who can say what dreadful upheaval may yet be in store for those unfortunate enough to dwell in this fallen realm.

Something is coming.

Here's the link to the free chapters.

And here's the Amazon page.

Hope you'll enjoy it!

I’m a young author, and my book is officially out on Google Books!

Hey everyone! My name is Caleb Facundo, and I recently published my book, Extinguish It, on Google Books.

This project means a lot to me because I wanted to write something that explores real life, the struggles people face, family challenges, betrayal, and what it feels like to grow up in a world that can sometimes be difficult to understand.

My goal is to create something that people, especially young readers, can relate to and read when they need a reminder that they aren’t alone.

I put a lot of thought and effort into writing this book, and I’m excited to finally share it with people. I’m still learning how to navigate the world of publishing and reach readers, so I’m grateful for any advice or support from this community.

If you’re interested, you can find Extinguish It by Caleb Facundo on Google Books.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post! ❤️📚
