Every sub-reddit has a focus - it's raison d'etre (reason for existence). Because if you don't focus, people stop participating because it has just become one big mess of topics.
Ours focus is ... education, discussion, and sharing of entry and mid level separate & multi component audio systems. Generally speaking, that is 2 channel stereo systems assembled for music listening - things that are both "budget" and "audiophile". So being budget is not enough, nor is being "audiophile". Generally speaking, UNDER $1,000 spent per component is our threshold, although obviously that number will vary by the person. Budget for me was $50 (all in) at one time. Now I am fortunate that if I want to, I don't mind spending $500 a piece. Others can go more - good for them.
Try r/audiophile if your spending more than $1,000 per componant.
Of course, many of us use our music listening set ups for multiple purposes - so 2.1 (adding a subwoofer), 3.0 (L/R with a center channel), 5.1 (surround) and up are also fair game. But the fundamental goal of this reddit is better 2 channel and 2.1 systems to play music - as good as we can afford.
What we are not is soundbars, boomboxes, bluetooth speakers PC branded audio solutions. Those things have their place, but it's not our reason to exist. As for just the soundbar aspect that belongs at r/soundbars
In addition, we are not about IEM's or Headphones (try r/headphones or r/HeadphoneAdvice). That is their reason for existence. Yes, they can be budget audiophile, but again, it's not our focus.
While part of "budget audiophile", for more detail, try r/turntables, r/vinyl, and r/hometheater for questions specific to them. There will be a better chance of a more educated response there to those issues. Those questions are welcome here, but probably better there once you get past "budget". Questions on Vintage equipment? r/vintageaudio is the place for you to get better advice (likely)
DIY is also part of "budget audiophile", but r/diyaudio/ and r/diysound focuses a lot more heavily on that issue.
So to reiterate, we don't hate headphones, logitech, or soundbars, etc. But those questions don't belong here and your post may well be deleted or closed. Because those are not the issues we have chosen in BudgetAudiophile to make part of this sub-reddit. You may not agree, but that is what it is.
Who is this "we" I speak of? Creator u/averagejoeaudiophile and the rest of the mods.

Now I know these ain't cheap, but I found them parked on the curb so they we're practicaly free. A perfect pair of 1978 15 Ohm Chartwell Ls3/5as. Set 'um up on a pair of Norstone Stylum 2's and am powering them (here comes the low budget) with a Fosi P3 & V3 stack with an Argon BT3 as a DAC and Bluetooth reciever.
That Klipsch The Three Two was my Hifi setup until now. Might upgrade the Tubes on the P3 or switch out the Op-Amps on these at some point. But I couldn't think of a better small living room, neighbour friendly setup.
I'm tempted to get a CD Player or a turntable, just so the treasure hunt can continue.

Hey everyone! Setting up a 2.0 stereo / music-focused system in a 15' x 13' room powered by a Yamaha TSR-7810 receiver.
My #1 priority is crystal-clear vocal clarity, detailed mids/highs, and tight, punchy bass with zero boomy resonance (no sub initially).
I've narrowed down my local used market to these options. Which pair should I pick?
• Emotiva Airmotiv T1+ — $500 (3-way, AMT ribbon tweeter, dual 6" woofers)
• B&W 684 S1 — $500 (2.5-way, Nautilus aluminum dome, dual 6.5" Kevlar drivers)
• Monolith Encore T6 — $300 (3-way, silk dome in waveguide, dual 6.5" woofers)
• Monitor Audio Bronze 6 + Centre — $495 (Includes 3.0 setup, C-CAM gold dome tweeters)
• KEF Q900 — $600 (8" Uni-Q driver, but has a small dent on lower active woofer)
• JBL Studio 290 + Center + Surrounds (5.0 Set) — $650 (3-way, 1" horn tweeter, dual 8" woofers)
• Klipsch Synergy VF-35 (F-3) — $200 (2-way horn, triple 8" woofers)
Quick questions:
• Which pair gives the cleanest, most natural vocal separation and zero bass boom in an untreated 15x13 room?
• Is Emotiva T1+ or B&W 684 worth the extra $200 over the Monolith T6 ($300)?
• Is the dent on the KEF Q900 woofer a dealbreaker, or worth negotiating down?
Would love your recommendations. Thanks!

Hi everyone, pretty new to this subreddit and slightly uneducated. I have had this home audio Sony system from the 90s I got on Facebook for a little over a year. The SS-U641AV’s tower speakers that came with it get LOUD but sound okay. I’m looking for something with a little more depth. Any suggestions? Thanks!
(Yes I know it’s dirty)

I’ve got a Sony DA5ES receiver that has been on the shelf for a while.
Unfortunately the right channel is dead. The left channel is working regardless of the input source. Remote included.
Anyone in the Seattle area want to take this and try to get it working? Free if you come pick it up.

Hi yall, I currently have early series kef q5 towers. And was wanting a matching center in Apple. Did I mess up by choosing the iq6c over the q9c. Does anyone know if they are that different in tonality? I may have already bought it so on a whim due to an offer that seemed reasonable on ebay. But did I mess up ? Thanks in advance for any response or insight, thank you!

I’m trying to setup my turntable area, and don’t have a ton of space on my table. Any suggestions for good smaller speakers? My range is flexible but I’m hoping for a $300-600 range. Any suggestions with a receiver would be welcome too.

This is an old Victor movie projector speaker from the 1930s-1940s that has been modernized with the latest technology using a Up2Stream Subwoofer Amplifier Board.
it is currently wired to my amp’s subwoofer output (LFE) and paired with some bookshelf speakers.
I could also use it wirelessly using the app when pairing with other speakers powered by Up2stream / Arylic amps or DIY boards.
Excited to bring new life to this beautiful speaker!

Hey everyone
I recently bought my first truck, a 2018 GMC sierra 1500 SLE. I want to put subwoofers in it but have no clue where to start so I can here for advice.
First things first, my father used to have subs and is giving them to me. 3, 8 inch JL WOs. I tested them with a multi meter so I think they still work.?
Next I would need an Amp he told me? What amp would be compatible with my truck and these subs. He told me I could possible blow out my speakers if I got the wrong one? I have no budget but would like to keep it decently cheap.
And finally let me know if I missed anything crucial or need more details to help me out thanks I am a total noob so any advice is appreciated!

I’ve spent a lot of time focused on the vinyl side of my setup lately. Now I’m rediscovering the magic of early digital audio with this pair from 1987.
Both picked up at local used electronics shops here in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, after lots of hunting.
Sony CDP-950 (Philips TDA1541) and Denon DCD-1600 (dual Burr-Brown PCM56).
A double dose of joy for less than the price of a new budget CD player. The Sony needed a little work to get it running properly.
How sweet they sound!

There not exactly budget cheap now, but they were when I got them. It’s 70’s era Mitsubishi separates. I know, grandma has a Mitsubishi tv. That’s what I thought until a friend sent me a DA-C7 preamp. Put it on a shelf. A year later, pulled it out for the hey of it. Ooooh. That sounded really great on the XL-280 amp. Really good.
Roll it forward, I’ve two sets. A DA-C7/DA-A15-DC and a DA-P20/DA-M10/DA-M15-DC. The P20 has an amazing phono section for MM and MC. The P20 gives up very little to my restored AR SP9 preamp. I dearly love the amplifier. They are very powerful. My L100t and L150A can shake the house, and they have that classic look. Beautiful. I stream to mine using a WiiM Ultra usb to Topping E70.

Hi all! I'm basically brand new to audio equipment and am trying to decide between a couple of possible turntable setups for my new condo. My budget for everything is $750 USD and I'm in the US.
I know in an ideal world I should be shopping used at that price range, but since I'm new to things and am still figuring out what I like, I feel safer shopping new so I can return things if needed. If I get into it I'd definitely want to thrift around for upgrades though!
My condo is single-level and on the smaller side (750 square feet) and I would mostly be doing quiet, low-volume listening. But I'd also like to have the option to listen through headphones (both wired studio monitors and bluetooth earbuds, which I already own).
After reading around and looking through older posts on a few subs these are the two options seem like they might work:
Fluance RT82 ($350) -> Fosi X4 ($90) + Airfly Pro 2 Bluetooth Transmitter ($60) -> Edifier 1700BTs ($200)
OR
Fluance RT82 ($350) -> SpinBase 2 ($350)
I know I've seen some people say that it's better to go with more expensive speakers and a cheaper turntable, but I really love the walnut color option and the positive reviews on the Fluance RT82 over the less expensive Audio Technica LP60X, which basically seems like the only recommended step down price-wise from what I've read.
I lean toward the SpinBase option because I'm in a small space and it seems much more straightforward, but it feels weird not having two speakers and I haven't seen/heard about how it performs at low volume. I also worry that setup leaves me with less flexibility to upgrade later on. (Edit: The SpinBase also has a headphone jack and bluetooth so it would give me the headphone options I'm after without any other devices.)
For the Edifer option, I'd originally been thinking Fosi X5 (which is more widely recommended from what I've seen) but that doesn't come with a headphone jack while the X4 does. The Edifier 1700BTs seem to have a pretty mixed reception but I haven't seen anything close in price that doesn't have mixed reviews in one way or another. So I think it'll just be a situation where I'll have to deal with meh speakers for a while until I can save up and find a nicer option used.
I would love to get any thoughts folks have, whether it's help choosing between one of the two setups or giving me other equipment ideas I haven't thought of yet (or telling me I should abandon all hope)!
Thanks so much everyone!

I use Apple Music and have small speakers Ruark mr1 mk3 and a fiio cd player. I’d like to get a wiim for airplay but not sure which one to get. The Pro for a digital connection from my cd player, or Pro Plus as the dac might be better than the one in my speakers? I might experiment with Qobuz or Presto in the future so that integration seems useful. But Apple Music for now (and cd’s). I listen to classical music only. Which Wiim?

Was searching for a new budget DAC to replace my Sound Blaster Play 4 - lost it during my move and it seems to be discontinued. After chatting with Gemini for a bit, I was recommended the Kiwi Ears AD1 Pro. Cost me under $20 and I've been really impressed. The previous model, AD1 (without the "Pro") costs about the same price, so it's a no-brainer to get the Pro model, which has much better specs.
I listen to music on my computer through my Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers and my Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones. I first tried it with the headphones and was blown away. So powerful that I had to lower the gain through the equalizer. On my speakers, I raised the gain back to zero and turned up the subwoofer dial on the controls. Sounds pretty great here too. It also has an equalizer than can be controlled via browser and flashes the device.
Only nitpick is that the equalizer is more for advanced users, which might be good for some more experienced audiophiles, but I had to do a little bit of reseach to understand all the settings. There are no preset equalizer settings to use, so you'll have to start from scratch and mess around for a bit to get it sounding the way you want. You can set five bands along the spectrum, and control frequence, gain, and Q factor for each. There is also a seperate setting for global gain. You can access the equalizer at https://equalizer.kiwiears.com/ but it won't work unless you have a Kiwi Ears device connected.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Hi everyone, not really an audiophile here, I'm looking to upgrade my current setup and have heard good things about the Dali Kupid.
Current desktop setup:
Mac mini M4 → Audioengine D1 DAC → SMSL SA-50 amp → Pioneer SP-BS22 speakers
I'm thinking about upgrading my speakers to the Dali Kupid (around $400 here), but I’m not sure if my current amp would be enough to drive them
Should I consider upgrading the amp as well? Any budget friendly recommendations would be appreciated.

Hi! Today i purchased a pair of Axiom m60ti floor standing speakers. They sounded great! Packing them into my car i noticed they were missing speaker feet and, annoyingly, the threads for the feet were covered in hot glue at some point.
Looking for some recommendations, in canada, of cheap but effective replacement feet. speakers are about 60lbs, 25 kg, each.
thanks!

Anyway looking for a modern system that I can find a nice used version between $400-700 Max
So far I have interest denon av x1700h, denon avr x2600h and denon avr x1400h

I have a copy of a labi siffre albun from 1972. When I bought it on ebay I was told it was pristine. Over the course of a year ive given it a decent hand clean with my kaui kit. And some bits sound a bit better mabe...but it may he cope. There are some scratches and weird wavey blotches on it even after a firm hand clean. The second side starts with some really horrendous crackle noise before the music gets louder and settles. Its a quiet album in parts which doesn't make it easier. Will better cleaning fix this? Even the click that I know is due to a scratch because it happens every second for 15 seconds. Will better cleaning fix or reduce these noises? Or do I just get rid of this copy?
