hi there!
I am currently waiting to hear on location options for a job I’ve interviewed for, but it sounds like Canmore and Banff are my leading options. I’m super excited (and terrified, as I will be leaving a pretty tense family situation at home.) and looking for any advice to help me settle in and make friends if I end up in Canmore!
any places I should check out? any cafes or spots to look at the water and mountains?? let me know! thanks!!
this will be my first ever move away from home, so im quite anxious! anything helps!

Hi there! Coming to Canmore for a while, as a base camp to explore the Rockies (first time seeing mountains). I'm in my mid-twenties, from Finland 🇫🇮. I'll be working remotely a couple of hours a day, so I'd love to hear from locals which laptop-friendly coffee shops you'd recommend for a first-timer. Thanks in advance for all the advice 🙌

I imagine this is a long shot as I have little information but I met a lovely man name Al/Alistair last night (oct19) at the drake in Canmore. He’s British and very tall w/ thick hair and was with a short man named Will I think.
I enjoyed Al’s company and it’s unfortunate that we didn’t exchange numbers. The night ended up being more chaotic than I had hoped (which I hope they can forgive me for) and I’d love the opportunity to make a better impression.
I am leaving Canmore tomorrow (oct21) but if this somehow reaches them I’d love to reconnect. Also if anyone wants to share this in a Canmore Facebook group I wouldn’t say no to that.
Thank you!

Today I summited Lady MacDonald and this was the most difficult stuff in my hiking experience. I by no means call myself a very experienced hiker, but Mama raised no quitter and I try to get to the top whenever I go, however I never had to deal with winds like that on the ridge exposed like this. Just wanted to thank everyone who was way more experienced than me and provided me with courage to follow them, when I was contemplating on taping out.
And the dude with the dreadlocks and knitted shorts that had very bright electric colors: sorry I had absolutely no time to chat with you, but your energy was great, I appreciate your comments and I am lighting that cigar, because it is truly deserved. When I grow up I wanna be like you!

Looking for a spa to get a pedicure, but I don’t want gel nails. Every spa menu I’ve found so far only offers gel. Would appreciate a recommendation if you have one. Thanks!

Final update of the weekend (Sat 5pm): Banff skies have been clear of showers so far but Environment Canada still show 80% chance of showers till 9pm now. May or may not but either way the rest of the weekend in either Banff or Canmore should be good to go. Be mindful of Hwy1 construction but it hasn’t caused major delays so far.
Saturday morning update:
Showers in Banff are now expected to start as early as 9 am and could continue until 2 pm (https://weather.gc.ca/en/forecast/hourly/index.html?coords=51.179,-115.569).
Canmore remains a dry alternative, or you can stop first in Canmore and continue into Banff in the late afternoon.
Quick summary for anyone heading west this weekend:
Saturday: go early. Environment Canada forecasts showers in Banff from about 11 am to 5 pm, high of 10. Leaving Calgary by 9 gets you there before they start. Canmore is forecast sunny all day, so it’s a good dry alternative.
Sunday: go. Sunny all day in Banff, high of 10.
Roads: 511 Alberta shows Hwy 1 bare and dry, but it is down to one lane at slower speeds at the Jumping Pound Creek bridge (until Oct 31), with occasional lane closures near Bear Hill Road.
Closures and passes:
Smoke and events: no smoke advisories, no big events in town. Next weekend (Oct 22–24) is the Banff Craft Beer Festival, so expect it to be busier.
Forecasts can shift, so double-check Saturday morning before you leave.
I’m trying to make this a weekly Friday thing. Would this be useful?
Edited to include seasonal restrictions on Moraine Lake Road, K Trail closure, and Saturday morning update.

Hi! We will be visiting Alberta during the first week of Nov and staying near Canmore.
We're looking for suggestions, scenic spots, and must see places. We'll surely visit Calgary, Banff and Jasper, but we have a full week and aren't sure where else we should go or how to plan our itinerary.
Are easy hikes still doable in early November if/when it snows for beginners?
Some days, we'll have toddlers with us, so family-friendly places and activities are welcome too!

Hello! My partner and I have just arrived in Canmore for the season and are wondering where we can find the cheapest (but reliable!) bear spray.
We’ve seen it for $80 at Canadian Tire, but figured some smaller shops might have better prices.
Alternatively, if anyone is leaving town soon and has a spare can they’d be happy to sell or pass on, we’d really appreciate it! 😊
Our daily commute to work takes us through the forest, so we’re keen to be prepared 🌲

Is there an organization in town that accepts good used shoes & clothing and distributes them for free to people in need?

Hey good people. This would ve my first winter in Canmore and also in Alberta. I was looking for Winter Boot options as I take the Bus so a good one is really important. I checkef out the physical stores in Canmore and there is litereally limited options. Currently I'm browsing through amazon and kind of decided to buy the Columbia Bugaboot III (i'll attach the link in the comment). However, since this would be my first and I have zero idea about how harsh the winter is here so anh other recommendations plesse? Thanks :)

Any chance someone found a purple toddler REI raincoat around Canmore today? We think we dropped it near 8th Ave at the trail to engine bridge, but spent a lot of time walking around the city this afternoon.

I have a bottle of bear spray (pay what you can) for anyone who needs it. Leaving Canmore Saturday, happy to have someone pick it up Saturday between 10-11am

Hey everyone!
We just finished an amazing trip out here, and we're heading out soon. I have a brand-new, unopened can of bear spray that we bought for our hikes. (Unless a bear decides to pay us a visit tomorrow, it will remain completely unused!) 🐻😅
Expiry date is February 2030.
I’d love to pass it on to someone who needs it. You can have it for free, or pay whatever amount you think is fair.
Or does someone know a place, where I can hand it over?
We are staying in the lodges at canmore and are leaving on Wednesday morning (Sept 30)
DM me, if you're interested! Safe trails, everyone!

Hi Canmore folks! My name is Dan, I work with an Edmonton based wireless audio tech company called SKAA. As part of my role in the company I have been given one of our wireless PA systems along with a bunch of other gear, my job is to find people who want to use it and get some videos/photos of the equipment being used for the company’s social media pages. I will be in town next Friday and was wondering if any musicians or DJs would be down to collaborate and do a pop up together! If you’re interested please comment below and I will DM you with more details! :)

My best friend's son is planning on proposing to his girlfriend in the coming weeks, and he would like to have a photographer there.
To my dismay, I have been asked to help locate one who may be on the student/portfolio building side of things, as he is looking to keep costs low.
Please no shade, I am a big believer in paying folks for their time and talents, I am but the researcher. To make matters worse, I live in Ontario, so I can't even source my pool here and call in the biggest of favours.

My fiancé and I are getting eloped and bringing a couple friends in a few weeks and are looking for recommendations on cool bars or places with a dance floor that we could go to afterwards. Granted this will be on a Thursday so we're not expecting a lot but would still like to have as much fun as we can after we get married :) thanks all!
Edit: we will be eating at Murrietas and plan on heading to The Drake but those are our only plans for the night.
