What if the student / Gen-Z uprisings in Serbia, France, Albania etc were to spill into BC in order to demand proportional representation?
Any other students wondering why one of the most left-leaning areas of the world is now being governed by actual, literal pro-Trump fascists & separatists? Are you a member of a vulnerable minority, like me, who is scared to death & angry at the idea of having your rights & supports stripped away?
We clearly have a broken electoral system, & we need to force politicians to give in to our desire for a proportional representation system. Because people in power never voluntarily give up power. We must take it by force. That is how democracy is won. We tried asking nicely, & doing this through conventional channels. It didn't work. So now it's time to take it to the streets, & to shut this province down until we have our demand for PR met.
And while we are at it, I believe we should demand more: we should demand a new retro-active law that requires that at least 50% of voters vote in an election in order for it to be certifiable. If an election does not meet the 50% threshold for voter turn-out, then the election results are rejected, & a new election is called & set at three months from the date of the day of the failed election.
In making this new law retroactive, we can force the rejection of the last election, & have a new vote that will be based on PR.
Just putting it out there.
If you are a student, & think this is a good idea, then please steal it, & go pass it along to the student organizations on campus that you frequent.

Question 2d animation as international student
im thinking of applying for 2d and visual development course but im an international student, i read it's harder for international applicants to get accepted compared to domestic ones,
can anyone, a previous international student in the course send me their portfolio which they applied from, for reference to understand what standards are really set for international applications.
it would be a huge help for me, ty!

Discussion Anyone at CapU, including alumni, interested in joining a volunteer initiative?
Hey everyone,
I wanted to reach out here and see if anyone might be interested in joining a small volunteer initiative I'm putting together in the Lower Mainland.
I'm a social services professional, and our main focus is going to be helping people experiencing food insecurity. This could include people experiencing homelessness, newcomers, or lower-income individuals and families who may be struggling to afford groceries and other basic necessities.
I've wanted to organize something like this for a while now, and the hope is to bring together people who genuinely want to help, start with some manageable projects, and grow things gradually over time.
I'm Punjabi and grew up here in BC, and the principle of seva, or selfless service, is a big part of what inspired me to get this started. Of course, everyone is welcome, regardless of their background.
I'd also like to emphasize that this isn't just for current students. Former students and CapU alumni are absolutely welcome to get involved as well!
There's no expectation that anyone needs endless free time either. We all have work, school, family, and other responsibilities, and I'd like to keep things flexible.
If you'd like to get involved, please send me a DM and I'll share the QR code for our Signal group. Would love to have you on board!

Advice Need help finding scholarships!!
Hello everyone!
I’m looking for scholarships and bursaries in BC/Vancouver to help fund my studies in Film Production. I am planning to attend Capilano University (BIPA / Motion Picture Arts) and would love any guidance on internal or external funding options I might be eligible for.
A bit about my background:
-Completed high school here in BC (Vancouver area).
-Applying for post-secondary studies in film/media production.
Does anyone have recommendations for:
CapU Entrance Awards / Bursaries: Any specific tips or deadlines for Capilano's Entrance Scholarships or First Term Bursaries? BC
Local Scholarships: Options like the BC District/Authority Scholarships (for Fine Arts / Applied Design) or BC Arts Council Scholarships?
Film-Specific & External Grants: Any local Vancouver arts organizations, film foundations, or community grants that support local media students?
Need help pls and thanku :D

Question Studying with ADHD
Feels like a losing battle trying to study when you can’t even stay on task, or even worse, start the damn task.
How do you manage? What are your strategies for studying?

Question paralegal diploma
I plan to apply for the paralegal diploma this year. I learn from the website that every term students need to take five to six courses. So I would like to know how is the actual workload? Do the students have classes every day from Monday to Friday? If English is not my first language but I have a legal backgroud, is paralegal very diffcult for me?

Search for this student
Student is a 19 year old who wears a black jacket and black cap.
More notable features is an air canada badge on the right side of their hat, with their grey and orange bag having keychains of a lego R2-D2, Sprigatito from Pokemon, and they have a silver and black iphone case.
- Find the target
- Approach them
- Say “Hi Silas” to them (Don’t worry, that isn’t their real name)
- Leave without saying anything else
THIS IS PURELY FOR SHITS AND GIGGLES

Question Anyone at CapU interested in joining a small volunteer group?
Hey everyone,
I wanted to reach out here and see if anyone might be interested in joining a small volunteer group I’m putting together.
The main focus is helping people experiencing food insecurity and finding meaningful ways to give back to the community. I work in social services, and I’ve been wanting to start something outside of work that allows me to help in a different way.
I’ll be organizing and coordinating things as we get started, and hopefully we can build something worthwhile over time.
I’m Punjabi and born and raised here, and the idea of seva is a big part of what inspired me to do this, but of course everyone is welcome.
If you’re interested, send me a DM and I can share the QR code for our Signal group.

Looking for people to connect with and make new friends :)
Hey! I’m at CapU doing my BBA planning to concentrate in Accounting. I’ve been wanting to meet some new people and make some friends, so figured I’d post here. Making friends here is HARD lol.. I’m down to grab food, get coffee, study, go for a hike, hit the gym, game, or just hang out and talk. Doesn’t really matter what you’re into. If you’re also looking to meet some people, feel free to comment or DM me. Could be cool to get a group together and hang out sometime :)

The New Administration
What do you all think about the new administration at Cap? Apparently the president, chancellor, and vice president—everyone is new?
High hopes!?

Mature Students with Kids
Just thought I'd throw this out into the universe! I'm a mature student (F, 30) with a hubby and a 2 Y.O.
If any other parents (students with kids, to clarify) want to connect, whether just for socializing or potential playdates, feel free to reach out! 🙂

I hate the construction
I spent 35-40 minutes extra today because of the traffic by the entrance. The traffic begun before the bridge... can the school do anything about this?? I already leave super early as I live far, and I'm still really late. who schedules the traffic this early in such a busy area....

Advice How to make friends as a first year ??
I’m a first year in a cohort program and it’s so difficult making friends especially in a new environment as a first year while everyone else is already familiar with eachother. I’ve seen advice of going up to people and just talk! However, that seems so bothersome and might annoy the other person without knowing. What’s the best way to make friends outside of class?

Is it just me or has the Wi-Fi been extra terrible this semester?
I can barely access eLearn or online textbooks without the connection timing out or disconnecting mid-session. Some classes I've had to use my hotspot just to load eLearn during lectures. Even with the new CapU Guest Wi-Fi it's still borderline unusable in the Library.
Anyone else dealing with this, or is it just certain buildings?

student loans disbursed?
hi, I received my student loan into my bank account, the amount that would have went to me.
however, when I check my account to see if my tuition has been paid, it still shows there is a balance to be paid.
should I go to financial office or wait?

Advice How yall make friends here?
Im not too new to cap u but I feel its near impossible to make friends. Everyone seems to be in their own click and I feel awkward walking up to someone...
I used to be in a cap u discord which was really fun and nice but most of them that I interact with still have graduated or dont go here anymore.
I really want to make a friend here as it gets boring studying alone..

Question Library Hours and Access
Can someone tell me what the deal is with the library hours? I was told it closes at 6pm but someone else said it was open to study in until 11pm.
The uni’s website states library hours are Monday to Friday 8am-6pm, and closed weekends and holidays, which is kinda mind-boggling for a university to have such limited hours for students who work, too.
Is it at least open for quiet study in the evenings as the public libraries are busy AF most weekends and evenings
