I’ve never really been the type to get into arguments or let alone deal with stuff that could end up in the barangay, but this one seriously pisses me off.
I have decided to find a car rental on Facebook, found and messaged this woman directly.
She said she wasn’t the direct owner, but an agent reposting about the rental and earning commission. The deal was a 2026 sedan for 24 hours, with drop-off and pickup included. I gave her my details and exact pinned location from the start.
She initially quoted me ₱2,000 and I said okay. Later, she suddenly said my place was “too far,” even though she already knew exactly where I lived, and asked for another ₱100. She also told us to just meet them at a convenience store instead. Okay, none wasn’t worth arguing about.
While she was on the way, I deleted the photo of my driver’s license that I had sent through Messenger. I realized I had literally just found her on Facebook, so I started overthinking and figured I’d rather meet her first and make sure she would actually show up.
But when we met, I brought my passport and valid IDs and offered to show personally and let her take photos herself.
She didn’t. And just brushed it off. (Which is why I was genuinely pissed later when she tried to make even the deleted license photo sound suspicious, like I had some bad intention from the start.)
During the turnover, she and the guy she was with also randomly started telling me about how the actual owner had previous foreign renters with unpaid balances and how she only gets commission from the rentals.
Okay? Not really my problem, so I didn’t engage much.
Then she had me sign a small waiver with the rental terms and even told me not to worry too much about the exact return time because the owner “doesn’t really care”
Looking back, there was no proper joint inspection when they handed me the car.
And there was also no joint inspection when they collected it.
When they picked up the car from my apartment at night, we exchanged a few words, she made some random comment about an interior light being on, I checked and it wasn’t, then they left.
No scratch was pointed out nor damages mentioned.
Then around an hour or more later, she suddenly started messaging me and sent a video showing some dark line/scratch near the bottom of one of the doors.
She said they didn’t see it earlier because it was dark. Then suddenly she was worried she was gonna be in trouble with the owner, she didn’t have money to pay for the repair herself, and how I needed to take care of it
That immediately felt off to me because I know I did NOT hit anything. Then she started asking me to get CCTV footage from outside my apartment
I had only moved here about a month ago. I don’t know anyone besides my landlord. I told her I couldn’t just source and produce CCTV footage for her over this esp with how the whole transaction transpired.
Then, without me agreeing to anything, she messaged saying she and the guy were coming back to my apartment that same night. At that point I was already suspicious. I live alone with my dog, so I called my dad and waited for him to arrive before going outside.
It took about 10-15 minutes. (She later tried to make that an issue too, saying I was purposely ignoring them.)
When we finally talked, even they admitted there had been no proper inspection during the turnover or collection, so there was no clear way to establish when the scratch actually happened.
My dad initially said he would try to ask around about CCTV. But the next day I told him to actually forget it. It wasn’t his responsibility, and honestly it isn’t mine either, to go around looking for CCTV footage just to prove their accusation for them.
And here’s the thing, this was ₱1,500 for a scratch, I would even just settle. But what really pisses me off was how she escalated this, and messaging me like I had some kind of wrongful intention.
She brought up how I deleted my license photo, even though I literally brought my actual passport and IDs when we met and offered for her to take extra photos. Then, with her chat, sent me back a copy of my driver’s license that she apparently still had saved as if almost like a threat lol
I stand by the fact that I did not hit anything and did not cause that scratch.
The waiver I signed only says that the renter is liable for damages and scratches, including any lost income while the car is being repaired. I understand that.
But how does that automatically mean every scratch they notice AFTER collecting the car is suddenly my responsibility?
There was no inspection when they handed me the vehicle.
Or documented inspection when they collected it.
They took possession of the car, left my property, and only later came back saying there was damage. I’m refusing to accept responsibility just because they decided afterward that the damage must have been mine.
