What are the best handheld gaming consoles you've owned?

Do you guys still play handheld consoles as much as your main console?

I've been thinking about how many great handhelds we've had over the years, from the PSP and 3DS to the Switch and Steam Deck. Some had better games, others were just easier to pick up and play.

What are the best handheld gaming consoles you've owned? Is there one you'd choose over your Playstation or Xbox?

Which xbox should I buy?

• Upvotes

Hi, I'm currently having a dilemma on which if i should:
- Buy a series X and some games

- Buy a series S, and use the extra money for more games, controllers and maybe another harddrive.

Both options will be bought secondhand since I'm not loaded enough with cash, and I'll run it on my full hd msi gaming monitor

I don't really mind about the full-blown top-tier graphics, but performance is something I really consider

I dont think i'll be using the xbox much, mostly when friends are over or when I have free time (college struggles xd).

Looking for a new PS5?

Unfortunately, my PS4 that I have had for almost 10 years has had its hard drive kick the bucket. Wondering if it is really worth it to try and go through replacing the hard drive and hoping that it works or just go all in on a PS5? Have looked around and have seen the slim and console versions have each had mixed reviews. Thanks!

Classic consoles Modified my Famicom Disk System so I can write translation patches to some games. I tested Puzzle Boys on my stock Twin Famicom as well. Lucky for me only 2 traces needed cut, 2 jumper wires soldered and 2 factory jumpers desoldered and removed.

My PS5 just made a buzzing sound

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I just downloaded Elden ring, it was still downloading in the background and I started playing it, after 5-10 minutes my console started to make a buzzing sound if you listen closely it’s not the DRIVE it’s another buzzing sound apart from the drive, the console had 1 month check warranty I still have a week left on it. Am I in danger? Really scared bcz I saw a reel that showed this exact noise and straight up told u to go return this console bcz it’s faulty, don’t remember anything else from that reel.
Should I use the check warranty and go return it if it’s a serious issue?

Which console? Sony, Microsoft, PC, or Nintendo?

With the rise of costs for RAM, digital copies, and neglect from these bigger console companies; what console choice is on everyone's radar going into 2027? I wanted to know because I have always been a big gamer growing up. However, I know things are starting to change regarding gaming and the industry.

Had my Ethernet connected for 3 years , moved my Ps5 to a different room and was getting the first picture , figured maybe it was the port in the other room, took it back to the living room and it’s still saying it. Bought a new Ethernet cable same issue. Port looks fine on PS5

Best console for the foreseeable future

With the rumors of Project Helix being $1200 - $1800 and the PS6 being at least $1000, I’m thinking of battening down the hatches on current gen and sticking with it even when next gen releases.

That being said, would you guys say that PS5 or Xbox Series X is the best console for the long run? Both companies are doing interesting things right now and seem to be going in interesting directions.

Playstation Am I saving a PS4 for nothing or is there something I could be doing with it?

I have blue (DoP) PS4 that I bought on a whim because it was cheap.

I guess the earlier owner tried to clean and tinker with it but was stopped by the security screws so it sat somewhere until it became something they just wanted to get rid of. The case is in a bad shape and it's missing some screws so I doubt it has much value. I cleaned it and replaced the thermal pastes but it still feels very slow. To be honest, I'm not sure if it's because it IS slow or because I'm so used to my PC. I even forgot that it exists for a long time but thought about it today.

So what would you do with it?

Which console? Which handheld emulator would you recommend for my needs? (Pokémon, 3DS, GBA, DS, etc)

Hey everyone! Im new here. I’m looking to buy my first “retro” gaming handheld, and I’m trying to figure out which one would be best for me.

I’m mainly interested in playing Pokémon games. I want to be able to play pretty much everything from the older Game Boy games to GBA, Nintendo DS, and ideally Nintendo 3DS games as well.

Some games I’d love to play include:
Pokémon FireRed / LeafGreen
Pokémon Emerald
Pokémon HeartGold / SoulSilver
Pokémon Platinum
Pokémon Black 2 / White 2
Pokémon X / Y and the other 3DS titles
ROM hacks and fan-made Pokémon games

I’d like a device where I can transfer game files from my computer, use a microSD card, and keep a big library of games on one device. I don’t want to use my phone for emulation. I want a dedicated handheld with physical buttons, a nice screen, and preferably enough power to run 3DS games well.

I’ve been looking at devices like the Retroid Pocket 6, AYN Thor, Anbernic handhelds, and even the Steam Deck. I’m not sure whether a Steam Deck would be overkill for what I want, or whether it’s worth spending extra money for the additional power and PC gaming capabilities.

I also like the idea of a dual-screen device for DS and 3DS games, but I’m open to a single-screen handheld if the experience is still good.

My questions:
Which handheld would you personally recommend for my use case?
How well do the different devices handle 3DS emulation?
Is a dual-screen handheld worth it, or is a large single screen better?
What’s the best bang for your buck right now?
Are there any other handhelds I should be looking at?
My budget is flexible, but I’d prefer not to spend Steam Deck money unless there’s a good reason to.

I’d appreciate recommendations from people who actually own and use these devices. Thanks!

The console comes with all necessary cables and a **standard DualSense controller**.

There is one small black mark on the console. It might come off easily with a sponge, but it is counted as a minor cosmetic blemish.

Looking to level up your gaming setup right away? The following high-end accessories are available and can be sold directly along with the console if you are interested:

🎧 **Turtle Beach Stealth 600P Wireless Headset** — **€89 (new buy)**

Is it worth it to use PSN account on my old ps3 slim in 2026?

So i recently was just able to boot up my childhood ps3, which i never had PSN or anything on it. I still have like 20 games that i can still play on disc which is awesome. The only thing I’m worried about now is my console getting messed up because of how Sony is nowadays and signing into the PSN network. Is it worth it at all in 2026? Also if it helps, i have the model CECH-2501A if that helps
