Wearable help Halloween witches hat - too floppy how to reinforce?

Post image
191 Upvotes

Just finished making this witches hat, it looks great on for photos but when I move around the top flops to the side/back. I don’t want to be having to adjust it all night, any suggestions on how to reinforce it? The small spiral at the top already has a thin piece of wire in it to hold the curl.

Wearable help How to avoid running into this issue again with hexagon cardigan

Post image
34 Upvotes

I made my daughter a hexagon cardigan following PassioKnit Kelsie’s tutorial on YouTube. I got to the border and she sized down by 1.5 hook sizes so I did the same (used 6mm to create the cardigan and 4.5mm for the border) and did three rows of single crochets. For whatever reason, the front panel corners ended up folding out after adding the border. That being said, I’m working on another cardigan and plan to make more here and there in the future. Any ideas on how I could avoid this happening on future cardigans? Maybe not going down such a drastic amount in hook size? TIA!!!

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help I know roving yarn can vary in thickness but will the yarn being this thin cause problems later?

Post image

Im making a blanket with Facets and the yarn has gotten thin in places already but this is sooo thin im worried it will break if I was the blanket. Im doing a honecomb stitch so maybe it will be supported? Should I just cut it out? Does anyone have experience with it being this thin?

Gift help I am looking for some help with a gift I am making. Any ideas welcome!

I am currently constructing a wreath for a gift. Im a little stumped on what type of flowers to surround the Lilly? The flowers will essentially be sitting on top of the light and dark leaves. I am adding some baby breaths in the center and on the right and left side of the Lilly.

I am debating if yellow and red roses would look good, or maybe some periwinkle and pastel yellow? I could really use the help on color scheme and maybe the type of flower?

Understanding a pattern Following a written pattern but getting confused on the border part

Hello everyone! Beginner here and found a pattern for valance on ravelry I wanted to try.

Ravelry link: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/window-valance

Direct link to pattern: https://web.archive.org/web/20060319045337/http://irenecrafts.com/patterns/window_valance.htm

Everything is going well until the bottom border part. The instruction says:

"Working across other long side, ch 3, 3 dc in same sp as last sc, (sc in base of next dc, ch 3, 3 dc in same sp as sc) across to end of this long edge."

So after the last sc from the side, I did the chain 3 and realized have no idea where to put the 3 dc. I tried doing it in the same stitch as the last sc but it looked off. Please help 🥲

Can't find a flair for this UK Disney Crochet blanket (Hatchette) missing issues needed to finish my blanket.

• Upvotes

I’m in the UK, I have up to issue 46 so am looking for the rest. Has anyone got any advice for buying the same/similar yarn in each colour? I am happy just getting the magazines (off people who have done it) but wouldn’t know where to start with getting the yarn! If anyone else has done this, is it actually any more cost effective than just buying the complete issues off the official website? Thanks

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help Sweet Snuggles Lite EU alternative for amigurumi pattern?

• Upvotes

I'm looking for alternatives for Sweet Snuggles Lite, as I can't find it in the EU (the Netherlands) for crocheting this pattern: https://www.etsy.com/listing/4598712059/night-dragon-crochet-pattern I'm new to Chenille yarn, so I don't want to mess it up by buying a bad alternative.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Help to find a pattern Looking for specific Christmas doily pattern(s) (Leisure Arts 2522)

I've fallen in love with both the wreath and the holly doilies. Unfortunately, I'm not in the US and the only copy I see on Etsy doesn't ship to the EU. I checked the Leisure Arts site and it looks like they don't offer a modern digital (or physical) version of THIS booklet (2522). Does anyone know if any of these patterns were ever offered in other LA collections that are available for purchase? I've been looking, but I don't see anything. Maybe they're staring me in the face, but I simply can't find any of them.

How do I... How can I make this crocheted basket stand on its own?

For this project, I used chunky chenille yarn. On the second picture I used boards to hold it up. How can I make it stand on its own without the boards? I’m scared of submerging it into water because the red yarn might bleed.

Discussion Please help me about crocheting on a 17 hour flight : LIGHTS and HOOK

Hello
I know there is a lot of posts regarding this already but i have two very specific questions that i cant find the answers to or cant seem to really get a clarity on.

  1. What do we do for lights , its a long haul flight, lights out is pretty long so i was wondering how do you crochet then, do you turn on the over head light would it be wrong to do that , do you travel with a small light or something.

  2. I usually crochet flowers so the hooks are quite small 0.5 and 0.75mm mostly and these are metal ones , would these not be allowed i read you could actually take the metal hooks too but i am not sure abt the small ones.

  3. Also what abt neck pain lol, do you have a solution for that in a flight where you arent actively triggering a vertigo episode 😭😭

Thank you for any help!!

Help to find a pattern Need help finding a double thick potholder that uses a thermal stitch with consistent edges on all four sides

I need help finding a pot holder or hot pad pattern. I’m specifically looking for one. It’s very thick essentially a double thick potholder that uses a thermal stitch pattern however, the ones I’m finding the starting edge in the finishing edge are a different thickness and they don’t provide any stitches or ways to Finish it in a manner that it has the same edge all the way around and I’m thinking that there’s likely a way to do that because I’ve seen some finished ones that look like they have very nice consistent edges around the entire item but I’m having trouble finding one. I’m a beginner and I might not know exactly what to search for I hope this description was good

Here is a link to one that I found that I like with the exception of the edges maybe that will help spur some ideas: https://www.sewrella.com/crochet-potholders-free-pattern/

It doesn’t matter if it has the loop or not I’m more looking for a consistent edge and thickness all the way around

Looking for suggestions Should I add a border to this tapestry? If yes, which colour?

Post image
35 Upvotes

Note: ignore the curling and some uneven edges. That'd be fixed when I block it

Should I add a simple slip stitch border to this tapestry?

And if yes then what colour? Red seems like an obvious choice but the bottom edge of the tapestry is black. Which means the black part would have a red border too. Would that look odd?

Orr should I just leave it as it is and not add a border

I also thought of adding a border only on the right and left edges (no border at top and bottom). Never done that before and never seen it either sooo not sure if it will look weird

Looking for suggestions Trying to follow a we are Knitters crochet pattern

I'm working on the we are Knitters crochet sweater scarf and I just started with the gauge but I'm way off. It's supposed to be 10 stitches and 9 rows of half double crochet to make a 4in x4in square. I'm at 6 rows and I already have my square. So theoretically I know that should mean I should crochet tighter. But I'm worried that if I do that then the 10 stitches across won't be 4inches.

Is it possible the gauge is off?

I bought this yarn at a small town eclectic shop selling everything ranging from internationally made fair trade spoons to consignment purses. The shop had just moved a few doors over from its original location so it was still in a touch of disarray. While I didn’t see any bugs or eggs in it, my husband briefly saw something small, dark, and suspicious in a different yarn so we made excuses to put that one back. I bought these 4 skeins because the owner was so nice and really wanted to get rid of her yarn inventory. I really don’t see anything in them, but I’m eager for reassurance it’s okay to use them or bullying to put them back in the freezer if necessary.

So far they spent a week in the freezer in ziplock bags and have been resting outside for 2 days. Do I wait 5 days and freeze for another week, or is it safe to use?

S/n: these yarn were not touching the one with the black dot but since they recently moved locations one can only assume they’ve all been in contact at some point.

Can't find a flair for this How does changing your hook size change what your making? Is the size recommended on the skein typically the best size recommended?

This could apply to anything but I’m mostly thinking about amigurumi. Is it bad to go under or over the recommended hook size for yarn?

Right now I’m making a gingerbread man and the skein says to use a 6.5 hook, but the yarn didn’t feel as thick to me so I am using a 5. It looks fine but I am noticing it is a bit harder to pull through some stitches and I don’t think my tension is too tight. Is this why they recommend something bigger?

Understanding a pattern Where to "3 dc into next ch" in doily pattern? Confused about chain vs chain space; 3 dc vs dc3tog.

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'm new to crochet and am trying this Andromeda Doily pattern from https://blueraindrops.com/andromeda-doily-crochet-pattern

Rows 3-7 follow the same general pattern, and include: "[...] 3 dc in next ch, [...]"

Can someone explain where exactly to do the "3 dc" (what is meant by "next ch')?

I assumed this meant to do 3 double crochets into the chain space.

But then in row 8 it specifies the chain space: "[...] dc in next ch-2 sp, [...]

SO:

If in rows 3-7 I am not supposed to 3 dc into the chain *space*, where am I supposed to 3 dc into?

Would "next ch" be the blue stitch? Should I be doing 3 dc in there?

Thank you in advance!

Looking for suggestions Have you crocheted any socks? Do they fit? How much yarn did it take?

I usually knit my socks but I was looking at crocheted sock patterns and most call for 150 grams for the larger sizes (my feet are large.) Is it even worth it? I have a big stash of sock yarn but I usually only get 100 grams for knitting. If you’ve crocheted socks, are they stretchy enough? I actually like the look of the crocheted socks I’ve seen that are constructed similarly to knitted socks but I want to be able to get them on my feet when I’m done.
