Basketball courts in Larnaca

Hey there,
I am visiting Larnaca for a few days and I have discovered that usually one of the best ways to get to know a place is to go to a public Basketball court and play with the locals. Is there a place in Larnaca where the local Basketball community meets up to play? And if yes, where is it and when is the best time to go there?

Thank you and have a great day!

Help Looking to buy a building in the Limassol region that was constructed illegally

I am looking to buy a building built in the early 2000s that consists of 9 apartments.

Turns out there is no proper title for the building, with 3 apartments being constructed where parking should have been ? What would you do in this situation ? Is this common in Cyprus ? Would you buy the building ? How does this affect value ?

Help Built a free Cyprus tax calculator for 2026 and would appreciate if you can check the numbers

Hi all,

I got tired of working out Cyprus tax by hand, so I built a free calculator:

https://cytaxcalculator.com

It covers:

- Personal income tax with the 2026 bands, Social Insurance and GESY

- The 50% and 25% relocation exemptions

- Monthly or annual input, with a 13th salary

- Company tax at 15%, plus dividends (Non-Dom and domiciled)

- A planner comparing a company paying you salary plus dividends against being a sole trader

Please feel free to try it with your own numbers and something looks off, please tell me in the comments. I'd rather fix it than have wrong figures out there.

Many thanks!

Hey guys, we're in Protaras. Has anyone seen turtles at Konnos beach recently? Or if there's a better spot nearby, any tips are welcome.

Unpopular opinion: Cypriot culture is even more misogynistic than you’d actually care to admit.

I feel like Cypriot society is deeply misogynistic - more than we care to admit - and it’s not talked about as much.

I’m a Cypriot woman in my 30s and there’s too many times where a man (most of the times older than me), where for one reason or the other, will go on extreme lengths to belittle me or wanting to make me feel uncomfortable.

I feel like we’ve reached a point in this society where a lot of men not only feel threatened by independent women but also try to retaliate towards them in every single possible way given that circumstances allow for it at the moment. I’m talking complete strangers here. Not someone from work, not someone from my immediate environment.

Is this the current state of affairs?
Is this what you’re experiencing as well?
Are we backtracking as a society?
Genuine thoughts.

Pitbike on „public“ Road

Me and my wife wanted to grab these pitbikes for shits and giggles. Does anyone have any experiences with this bike?

Also, what are the cops like here? We see a lot of bikers without lights, plates or helmets. So driving these things at night down to the beach or in the mountains won’t get us in jail… right?

The Cyprus Problem Could someone summarise the Cyprus conflict and how the island became divided?

I’m interested in understanding the main historical events, particularly:

The origins of the dispute between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.

The movement for Enosis and the Greek military junta.

The events of 1974 and Turkey’s military intervention.

Why Cyprus remains divided today.

The different perspectives of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.

I’m asking genuinely because I’d like to understand the history and the political situation better.

I’d appreciate a balanced explanation rather than a political argument. Thank you!

Sorry if my last post offended anyone, that wasn’t my intention really.

The Cyprus Problem Erhurman promises to (immediately) start (official) negotiations if Christodoulides accepts rotating presidency

Thumbnail

Today GC media were writing that when Maria Angela Olguin Cuellar comes to the island in a few days she will announce a 'velvet deadlock' and Guterres would push the task to the next UN Secretary General.

This seems to be a change. He says accept rotating presidency for the post-solution Cyprus in principle and we can start the negotiations(the details can be negotiated - which means it could be sth like what Talat-Christofias agreedm or a rotating president within a Presidential Council or idk). There is already a convergence about rotating presidency (with weighted cross-voting and a ratio of 2:1). Erhurman claims that Olguin told him the GC accepts rotating presidency - which is true despite what NC supporters believe. The problem here is obviously separating rotating presidency from the rest of the convergences(even if it's just in principle, since if it was a part of an overall package - Guterres Framework - it would be much more easier to accept and honest) and whether politically NC will / can accept this. How will DIKO react to this?

Cyprus Media Hub Update: Cyprus Podcasts + Upgraded Android Auto & CarPlay are finally here! 📻🎙️🚗

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I wanted to jump on here and share a huge new update for Cyprus Media Hub, but first a big thank you.

When I first posted about this app on r/cyprus, it was just a small side project to help the local community and expats stream local radio stations. The feedback, support, and feature suggestions from this subreddit from the very beginning have been absolutely incredible. I literally couldn't have grown the app to where it is today without you guys.

Based on what you’ve been asking for, the latest release brings some major new upgrades:

  • 🇨🇾 Cyprus Podcasts: You can now explore and stream a dedicated collection of Cypriot podcasts directly in the app. Stay connected to local discussions, stories, culture, and news on the go.
  • 🚗 Seamless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay: The in-car dashboard experience has been completely revamped! You can now browse both live radio stations and podcasts straight from your car's screen.
  • 🗣️ True Hands-Free Control: The biggest change? You can listen to your favorite media on the go completely without touching your phone, making your morning commute significantly safer and smoother.

📢 Help me make it complete!

Since this app is built entirely for our community, I want to make sure it includes absolutely everything. Please leave a comment below if you notice any missing:

  • Cypriot podcasts 🎙️
  • Radio stations (local or internet-based) 📻
  • TV stations / live streams 📺

Just drop the names below, and I will do my best to add them in the next server update!

If you want to check out the new version or leave a review, you can download it here:

Please let me know what you think of the new podcast section and the updated car interfaces. Your feedback keeps this app moving forward!

Thank you again, r/cyprus! 🇨🇾❤️

Bad investment

Hi guys,

I bought a small share of a friends company in Cyprus in June. I had a falling out recently and wanted nothing to do with it and wanted my money back. And he said he would give it back no worries, He asked me to sell these (possibly unregistered shares) to another shareholder of his. I agreed. so I asked for a copy of the HE57 form or the copy from the registry. Neither of which he says he has because apparently the documents are submitted but it takes a long time in Cyprus. But they want me to sign a resolution and instrument of transfer plus the SPA with the other shareholder before they can send me the money. Is this true? Is this fishy?

Paid parking with a 30-min limit sign: What happens if I stay longer?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi everyone

I parked in a paid zone and paid for several hours before I noticed this sign stating a 30-minute maximum limit and a 1 hour no-return rule.

Since I already paid for a few hours, what actually happens if I leave my car there for longer than 30 minutes? Is it likely to get a parking ticket or is there a risk of being towed?

Update: When I got back to my car, there was no ticket. However, there was a note on my windshield saying "this parking is for customers only" likely left by a shopkeeper from a neighboring store.

This isn't the first time I've run into this in Paphos but it's the first time I parked under a sign like this. Could these spots actually belong to the shop and is it possible this sign was put up specifically for their customers?

Tourism I had an amazing time in Cyprus!

I’m not sure why there’s so much negativity about Cyprus on the internet. My friends and I went there for a week holiday. We had a wonderful time, visiting many memorable places. I’m enamored by its rich history and the beautiful sights and sounds. I find the people friendly and their hospitality, warm and nice. I have been to many countries in the world. This island gave me an amazing experience.

I’ll be back again :)

Apartment Common Expenses Cost in Cyprus

What are you typical common expenses in Cyprus for a complex with a pool and a gym for example? I hear for numbers like 200 euro per month for 1 bedroom but others say 50 euro per month ?

Can you share what you usually pay?
