Call for the immediate Boycott of DC United; until they stop extorting the city/fans.
Rationale:
Today, Co-Owner of DC United and root of our pain, Josh Levien hinted at relocating our team if he’s not given a $300 million handout by the DC Government.

To us, the fans, this is a spit in our face.
The heart of our fanbase is working class people who got the cheapest ticket they could afford.
The electrician who worked a 10-hour shift but will willingly stand another 2.5 hours to show the players their support.
Or the immigrant father bringing his kid to their first game because this is how they found community after moving to DC. These are the people who built the club.
Those in club seats or luxury boxes did not give the badge its prestige. They should not be allowed to define it.
The taking of our tax dollars is an act of financial violence against our working class fanbase, any money we give to the owner simultaneously gives him permission to pursue that act of financial violence against us, the fans.
TO FANS WHO WANT TO PRESERVE UNITED’S HISTORY AND CULTURE, IT’S IMPERATIVE THAT YOU BOYCOTT THE TEAM.
- do not buy tickets, and do not buy first hand team merchandise (finding something on eBay/ second hand is ok)
Demands:
Saying “sell the team” on Reddit or Instagram comments has never and will never help in achieving our goals. It acts as white noise, generalizes our emotions and distracts from what us as a fanbase needs. What this fanbase needs is a centralized movement and a clear list of demands.
Here is my list of demands I feel are most essential and attainable.
Demand DC United and its owners immediately cease attempts at getting public funds for a stadium renovation for the next 3 years:
- Stadium upgrades to accommodate concerts give the owners less incentive to improve quality on the pitch when soccer attendance isn’t the primary source of revenue.
- Why 3 years? There is a world where public funds for a stadium could benefit the DC community and fans but current attempts are not in good faith. The organization as a whole must reflect before we allow them to leverage or fandom for financial gain.
Demand DC United and its owners commit to DC and not entertain the relocation of DC United in the media or with government members.
- There's no world where DC United should be playing outside of the city, its that simple.
Lastly, demand that Josh Levien (not from the organization but from him and signed by him) formally apologize to the fanbase.
- Josh must acknowledge he has misused our support for the club in his attempts to get our money, and that a stadium renovation was never in the best interest of fans nor Washingtonians.
- Josh must acknowledge he has not invested into the club, and that lack of investment is disrespectful to us, the fans.
PLEASE SPREAD THESE DEMANDS TO COMMUNITY LEADERS AND FAN GROUPS!!
- I know this may not have hit the nail on the head for all dc united fans but I feel these are common sense next steps and actions we can take as United fans to let ownership we will not tolerate this disrespect.
