Help Local Animal Rescue Urgently Seeking Denver Metro Fosters for Huge Intake of nearly 100 cats + dogs
Hi everybody! I'm one of the foster coordinators for Rocky Mountain Puppy Rescue, a local nonprofit animal rescue that operates out of the Denver Metro area. I've posted on here once before, but we had such an amazing wave of support last time that I wanted to reach out to you all again
I'm gonna be really honest: we have nearly 100 cats and dogs scheduled to arrive this Thursday (10/29) from various shelters, and I'm worried we won't have enough fosters to give them all a safe place to land. Since we're a 100% foster-based rescue, we really rely on our network of volunteer fosters to help give the animals we rescue a safe place to land -- unfortunately, what this means is that when we can't find a foster to step up for a cat or dog, that cat or dog stays at the shelter
Since our primary goal is reducing the number of animals that get put down, we do our best to pull our cats and dogs from shelters that suffer from overcrowding and high euthanasia rates. Over half the dogs pictured above are currently being held in a New Mexico shelter whose euthanasia rate averages around 50% per year. Again, these animals aren't being euthanized because of behavioral or medical issues -- it's just because the shelter system is so overcrowded and lacks the resources to care for the number of animals coming into their system
But yeah, since we operate mainly out of the Denver Metro area, we're looking for local people who'd be willing to temporarily open their homes to a cat or dog until they can be adopted!
If you're interested in helping out, or even if you just want to learn more, I really encourage you to fill out a foster registration form below -- this isn't a firm commitment to foster any animal in particular, it mostly just gives you access to info on which animals are still in need of fosters!
I know posts that sum up to "volunteers needed" feel a lot like ads or self-promo, so if anybody has any questions about how the rescue works or what fostering actually entails, I'm happy to answer in the comments below! And if you've ever fostered with us before (or with any other rescue for that matter) feel free to chime in with your thoughts and your experiences!

Recommendation a little kindness at middle state coffee. who else deserves a shoutout?
wanted to share a sweet interaction i witnessed at middle state coffee on 32nd this morning.
an unhoused man who i often see in the area came inside, one of the employees greeted him with a smile and a simple, “would you like some coffee this morning?” they poured him a cup on the house, he said his thank you, and was on his way
it was such a small gesture, but something about the warmth and casualness of the interaction stayed with me. i got the impression that this might be a regular stop for him, a familiar and grounding place where he's welcomed and treated like any other neighbor
i think it's easy to overlook how meaningful these little moments of kindness and dignity can be. it made me happy to support a business that seems to recognize that all while serving my favorite cuppa joe
i’d love for this thread to be a place to shout out other local businesses you've seen showing up for our unhoused neighbors or giving back to the community in tangible ways. always looking for more places worth supporting!!

Help Mystery Infectious Disease
Hi all, I’m in the Glendale area. I’m posting this to try to find some answers and resources.
Three weeks ago, I was diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia. I’ve gone through three rounds of antibiotics and I still haven’t kicked it. My husband picked it up last week, and he ended up in the hospital because his leg suddenly became paralyzed. He’s still there, and they’ve referred the both of us to Infectious Disease Specialists. My husband is being evaluated for possible surgery.
I’m wondering, has anyone else experienced bacterial pneumonia recently? Our neighborhood had a flash flood 8 weeks ago, which stirred-up a lot of mold and bacteria. Also, I work with children Monday through Friday, and I smoke weed on the weekends. Does anyone have anything in common with my experience? Is anyone else experiencing bacterial pneumonia after being exposed to the flash flood? I’m wondering if there could have been a bacterial contamination at a grow house or weed packaging company, or possibly some type of bacteria being back-washed onto our streets during the floods.
Aside from that, my pneumonia is so severe that I can’t walk up and down the stairs at my apartment, and I’m really struggling with bending and lifting which is making it hard to do dishes and clean my space- it’s likely exasperating my pneumonia at this point.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a free or affordable cleaning service? I spent a lot of money on medical bills and medication, and my car is in the shop after being affected by the flood. I could really use some help taking out my trash, cleaning out my fridge, and doing dishes.
Thank you and have a good day!

Local News Victims self-transport to hospital following separate shootings
Local News Proposition 135 could ban more than surgeries
From the article:
"Why are therapists named in a surgery ban?"
"Proposition 135 is being sold as a narrow ban on gender surgery for minors. But if you read the actual text, one detail stands out. The measure’s definition of “healthcare professional” includes dentists, optometrists, chiropractors, podiatrists, pharmacists, physical therapists, psychologists and mental health therapists."
"None of these people perform gender surgery."
"So why is the list so long? Because the measure doesn’t ban specific procedures. It bans care given “in response to a minor’s perception of sex or gender.” No patient, parent, or provider can be confident what that phrase covers. It is simply too broad."
"Imagine you’re an orthodontist or a physical therapist and you think your 15-year-old patient could be transgender. Is it worth risking a complaint against your license to find out where the line is? The easiest way to avoid that risk is to stop seeing trans kids altogether. Even the state’s nonpartisan voter guide warns that providers may cut back the care they offer for fear of legal consequences."
"That is what Proposition 135 really does. It doesn’t just stop surgeries. Instead, it makes trans youth unwelcome in ordinary exam rooms and healthcare offices: for braces, for a sprained ankle, for an eye exam, for mental health therapy. A family that needs to find care for their child shouldn’t have to wonder whether a therapist, optometrist, or dentist will turn their child away."
"Vote “no” on Proposition 135."

Announcement Cult/Church of Blucifer - Denver based WoW Forever guilds and gaming community!
Hey yall! We have been building this great community for Denver wow players to hangout and game together. Unfortunately, the person who had started it all kinda went of the rails last night and nuked the Discord over what we thought was a normal conversation/debate over a rules disagreement. All 11 of the guilds officers disagreed with him on a particular rule and he just kinda went off the deep end and couldn’t take feedback and as a result, apparently, burned the whole Discord overnight.
We’re all really disappointed because we have been putting in a lot of work, but we’re gonna do it all over again because we really love the community we’d been building.
Here is the new Discord we got up and running! Please join us, forgive the inconvenience and let us rebuild this great community.

Event Free BBQ tonight at Novel Strand Brewing, 6PM, open to anyone
I’m Jake Browne, running for City Council At-Large, and we're hosting some different campaign events this week: pay nothing, eat free.
Tonight we’re serving $2,000 of barbecue from a family-owned Denver spot at Novel Strand Brewing, starting at 6PM. No drink minimum and you don’t need to RSVP or donate. You also don’t need to vote for me. Or even like me.
I can’t buy anyone a beer (city rules rules), but they will happily sell you one.
If you can't make it tonight, we'll be serving Shish Kabob Grill buffet style at Satellite Bar on Wednesday, starting at 4PM.
The goal is to take campaign money and support small, family-owned businesses in Denver while giving people a reason to get out in their neighborhoods and meet people. I hope you can make it out!

Misc Q&A Voting - should I vote in person or drop my ballot at a drop box?
I’m trying to decide whether it’s better to vote in person or if it’s fine to use a drop box. With all the fuckery going on at the federal level, there’s no way I mail my ballot but curious to get opinions on in-person vs. drop boxes. I live in a rural county, so voting in person means driving 45 minutes, which I don’t mind doing if that’s the more reliable option.
What have y’all been doing?

Help State employees: Is it better to get quit or get fired?
I started a new state job two months ago after there was a large reorganization. I got a coaching memo my first week on the job and got a formal written warning today. The next task is to write all the logic for a product that was built over two years for Friday. I haven't had time to learn the platform it so it's an impossible ask even for the most experienced of individuals. Usually writing requirements for a large project is achieved over multiple months. One of the other parts of the warning is factually untrue but they won't amend it.
I can definitely not beat a PIP from someone who put me on a coaching memo in 5 days and a formal warning in two months. It's also just been a really difficult culture like very high expectations without the talent in place to deliver them.
I'm non classified and just moved back from CO so won't be eligible for unemployment (it's been two months and I don't have three reporting cycles of CO income). While I think I could explain it to future employers, I feel like if I checked the terminated for performance box, I just wouldn't get interviews and in this sparse job market, it doesn't seem worth the red flags.
Is it better to quit or get fired? Has anyone from the state who did get laid off use any employment lawyers and how did that go? Thanks for any help!
I absolutely think they would go out of their way to be a negative reference given the way this has all played out and I’m not eligible for unemployment (used up all my claim in last state, not enough time here)
I have health issues and want to maximize the coverage (covers till end of month last working month) and want to use 40 hours PTO so ideally I’d want to last until December minimum but don’t know if they’d agree. But the workload is intense like 60 hours weeks and can’t do my job and look

Lost/Found Loose/Lost dog what to do?
Hi! I live in Denver Valverde neighborhood and there are currently 3 loose dogs that I’ve seen running around in the same area for over 48 hours. It’s 3 large pitbulls, at least one of them being an unneutered male who also looks skinny. I tried to coax them into my yard with treats to get them to the shelter and they’re not at all interested in treats. I called animal control and they don’t send people out for loose dogs. I need these dogs to be gone for their own sake as well as the fact I now dont feel safe walking my 2 dogs around the neighborhood knowing there’s 3 large loose dogs running around. Is there any organization who will actually send someone out to come get these dogs and get them into a safe place?

Help Looking for like-minded friends…
Heyyy, my name is Don and I’m a 23 y/o black man who recently flew in from bham, AL back in May to take a seasonal job in ward. The job ended, so I relocated to Boulder canyon to work in a hostel in exchange for free room and board. I consider myself a solo traveler lol.
Since settling into Boulder it’s been pretty hard making friends, forming connections, and finding jobs. I only have an E-bike to travel and no income atm, but I really want some type of connection to keep myself from going crazy in a place where I’m the only one who looks like me.
I’m into anything environmental, I have a long history of working with plants and animals, love talking about philosophies, conspiracies, etc., and I’m a huge pothead (even tho I’ve been sober for a few days bc I’m poor lol). I also love anime, documentaries, and I identify as spiritual/agnostic. I’ve also played football through college so I know a bit about sports.
If you’d like to take me on as a friend or anything more, I’d love for us to connect and chill together! I’ll also send a photo of myself in Dm’s so that you know I’m not some weirdo.
Much peace and love 🙂🫶🏿
