DetailingUK Wiki is Live! Introducing the r/DetailingUK Wiki & Starter Kits Community Project

About 4 months ago, I made this call for help about creating some starter kits for folk just taking their first steps down the into the depts of detailing.

The 3 volunteers, in particualr u/Nyxi26, have spent a good chunk of time to create what we we can introduce to you today:

The DetailingUK Wiki!

It's still a work in progress, with an entire section dedicated to Paint Correction, still in the works, but we'd like to introduce you to it, and get your feedback. If you want to contribute, please send us a modmail, that said, the first main page is up, the Starter Kits page is ready to go.

So go, look, give us feedback and get involved if you want!

Hi everyone! I recently bought a car with satin paint and noticed several stains (photos attached). Is there any product or safe method that could remove or improve them without repainting? What could have caused them?

Discussion If you could only keep ONE compound and ONE finishing polish, what’s your winning combo?

What’s the combination you keep coming back to for reliable correction and a clean finish?
Interested in what works in practice: cutting ability, dust, wipe-off and how it handles softer paint. Include your pad and machine setup too, as that makes a big difference.
And which hyped-up product just didn’t work for you? 👀

Question & Advice Best Value for Money Rotary Polisher?

Hi everyone. A quick question, whats the best value for money rotary machine polisher I can get?

I currently have a Worx Orbital Polisher, but I find that the large orbital pad doesnt seem to get the best cut and shine on the paintwork.

Looking into getting a proper rotary machine Polisher, but theres so many options, both well known brands and a lot of lesser known to newbies like me.

Can anyone give any good suggestions? I would prefer a battery powered Polisher, would like to spend sorta max £150 for the whole kit

Any help greatly appreciated :))))

Question & Advice Hydrophobic coating residue removal

I’ve applied a hydrophobic coating (EZ car care ‘Fusion’) to my car and I made an arse of it. Firstly I blasted it all over the car with the trigger set to stream instead of mist, and secondly it was sunny and instead of going panel by panel I worked on the whole car. So I now have stubborn marks, that look like running water residue. They do buff off with a dry cloth but was wondering if there is a better, less energy intensive way of removing this? Lesson learnt.

Discussion Mothers CMX 3 in 1 polish and coat is nice

Gave the car a full prep today.

Wash, iron fallout remover, clay mit, wash and then by hand applied CMX 3 in 1 using a pad.

Its quite a grabby product to apply, i probably used too much. I applied, let it sit for a minute or 2 then wiped off with a thick microfiber cloth.

Considering I used to much it was very forgiving to polish off, i went through a few cloths.

Its friendly on black trim, I had no issues at all and it left an incredibly glossy finish. How long will it last on the car? no idea but im hoping it lasts at least a couple of months.

Question & Advice ONR v5 - Rancid smell

I usually keep a bucket with 2 gallon water and rinseless wash with microfiber soaking in them. I take it for all sorts of random jobs and toss it for washing. Other rinseleas washes I had stayed fresh for up to a week. But with ONR (regular blue v5) I noticed the Rancid smell after 3 days. Has anyone faced similar issues?

Question & Advice Is this marring or buffer trails on my paint?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Need help understanding whether this is marring caused by me washing the car, i use the two bucket method and do a very thorough pre wash, and dry with a ultra soft microfibre towel.
I noticed this hologram look to my paint, mainly on my side panels and the roof under a flashlight and the sun. For context i recently got it back from a bodyshop after spending £180 for a full car polish and have not noticed this before.

Also should I buy this and then keep on top of my car or should I not buy this and buy all the stuff I need to clean it. The old owner left the car outside of a bit so it’s a bit dirty and the wheels are coated in brake dust and other dirts

Question & Advice What causes this film on my windscreen on cold mornings?

Goes away once I start driving for a while, seems like airflow/wind clears it.

It's on the outside, using wipers improves it for 2-3 seconds but then goes hazy again.

Really bad when sun hits it, can't see out of the window.

I've tried cleaning windscreen with 100% IPA and Bilt Hamber window cleaner but it made no difference.
