I’m due to start a new role at Microsoft Ireland in two weeks for an AI-powered project. My offer letter and contract are in place.
With the recent voluntary buyout announcement, should I be worried about being laid off shortly after joining? Am I overthinking this?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi folks,
Just wondering before I start looking at doing this myself since I have a spare screen and want to do something semi-productive with it, I was looking at adding a home built dashboard to review things like spending trends, mortgage time remaining, pension performance etc. Nothing truly revolutionary but things I have to do a bit of digging and working with today to get.
I seem to have hit a fairly common problem though based on some of the posts I've seen here and other places online, it's hard to get API access to financial institutions to visualise my data, which I understand from a security perspective but I'm throwing this out here in case anyone has found a way to address this?
As it stands, I could see myself instead downloading bank/credit union/revolut statements and trying to get a snapshot in time from the pensions and manually updating a spreadsheet or similar, but in case someone has found a way to fully automate this, I'd love to get some insights.
Cheers!

Microsoft continuing to cut it's headcount. Looks like it's trying to do this in a less cutthroat way than mandatory layoffs, but if they don't make quota, I wonder if they will just cut the remainder.
Article says sales teams are not included and as much of ma ireland are tech sales, I wonder if this will have much effect here.

Who can I tell?
I’m 57, and lately I’ve been spending a lot of time building software with AI.
The problem is that AI development can be incredibly noisy. Agents talking to agents, logs scrolling past, status messages everywhere, constant updates about things I don’t actually need to know.
So I asked it to build me a quieter interface.
Basically: only tell me the things that matter. Give me the signal, spare me the chatter.
That worked nicely.
Then, for no sensible reason whatsoever, I thought: make it look like an Amstrad CPC 464.
And it did.
Green text. Black screen. Big chunky pixels. The whole thing.
And I absolutely love it.
Because that’s where I started.
The Amstrad CPC 464 was the machine I learned to code on. Sitting in front of a little CRT, typing things in, making mistakes, trying again, and getting an absurd amount of satisfaction when the computer eventually did what I told it to do.
Fast forward a few decades and I’m now using AI agents to help me build complex software systems, spin up tests, work across multiple projects and do things that would have seemed completely impossible to me back then.
And apparently the ideal interface for all of this advanced technology is…
an Amstrad CPC 464.
There’s something wonderfully circular about it.
The tools have changed beyond recognition, the systems are vastly more complicated, and the amount I can build now would have melted my teenage brain.
But that feeling is exactly the same.
You type something.
The machine responds.
Something that didn’t exist a few minutes ago suddenly exists.
And you think: that is brilliant.
Of course, I then had the problem of who to tell.
Family: not interested.
Friends: even less interested.
Colleagues: “What’s an Amstrad?”
So here I am.
Some of you are probably old enough to remember one.
Most of you probably aren’t.
A few of you may have started on something even older and are now preparing to tell me that the CPC 464 was practically a supercomputer.
But I’m genuinely delighted by this.
I started coding looking at a screen like this.
And now, all these years later, I’m still building software, still getting excited by it, only now I’ve got AI helping me do it and I’ve somehow managed to turn the whole thing back into an Amstrad.
Full circle.
You lot are my last port of call.
So… who can I tell?

Hi redditors, thanks for having me!
I was wondering about what are the best practices when launching. I speak about finances and funding. The app is a financial app, and I know that some solo developer can access to advertising funding. Have you ever had a similar process? Have you ever published a financial tracking app? Thank you.

I've been collecting job listings from European tech companies' own career pages, and I wanted to share what I found last week.
One thing I keep running into is old listings. Of the 31,946 roles still open at the end of last week, 41% had been listed for at least 60 days. I also found 1207 cases where a company had closed a role and had another listing with the same title.
You can access the full report for free here also 95% of these roles are open freely to everyone ..

For context, I track around 700 companies directly through their career pages, rather than relying on job boards. When a listing disappears, I count it as closed. That doesn't necessarily mean someone got hired. The role could have been filled, paused, or taken down before being reposted.
Anyway, here's what happened between 12 and 18 October ..
The overall picture
Most listings don't include a salary, which makes the €85k figure useful, but not representative of every job on the board.
Companies that added more jobs than they removed

SIXT stood out this week, with 80 listings added and 44 removed. That's the biggest net increase among companies I was already tracking.
A few others:
Companies where the numbers went in both directions
Delivery Hero added 105 listings but removed 117. So if you saw a headline about them posting over 100 jobs, that's only half the story.
A few more examples:
These numbers tell us what changed on the career pages, not how many people were hired or how many vacancies were actually cancelled.
Some companies I started tracking this week
These are existing openings at companies newly added to my tracking, so their backlog isn't included in the weekly additions and removals above.
A quick look by country

And if you're looking for your first tech job...
This was probably the most discouraging number I found.
Out of almost 32k open roles, only 553 are tagged as junior and 1,228 as internships. That's fewer than 2% tagged junior, compared with 15,006 mid-level roles.

I have two job offers and they both pay the same. Want to know which one has better culture and what is the in-office vibe like, do people come to office and how diverse the team is.

Howdy folks, I'm wondering how other people with ~4 YOE are finding the job market at the moment?
It seems to be extremely dry out there a the moment. I was getting more invitations for interviews last year when I had 1 year less experience. This year, after updating my CV, I'm sending out roughly the same number of applications but I'm getting nothing other than rejections (or the odd online assessment/take home project).
Even job listings where I'm ticking 80-90% of the boxes are resulting in either ghosting or rejections. Maybe I'm just going through an unlucky patch, but it feels like there's very little out there currently.

What do people think of this? On the one hand our jobs depend on them but on the other they can very negatively impact the environment and often don't benefit communities they are built in.

We looked at 3,518 open job postings across 81 companies' public Greenhouse boards, covering seven job categories. The goal was simple: find out which keywords employers actually use.
A few findings stood out.
We also noticed a pattern across roles: employers often described the practice rather than naming a specific tool. Observability came up where you might expect Grafana, and SIEM where you might expect Splunk.
What does this mean for your resume?
If you're listing tools but leaving out the responsibilities, practices, and skills explicitly mentioned in the job description, you could be missing relevant keywords.
That doesn't mean stuffing your resume with buzzwords. It means describing your actual experience using language that matches the role you're applying for.
One important caveat: the sample leans heavily toward tech companies and uses a single ATS platform, so these results aren't representative of every employer.
The full study, including findings for sales, cybersecurity, DevOps, and accounting, is here:

I have an offer in hand but other in progress too that may take a while. Have already asked for week review the contract. Any legal/reputational/blacklisting consequences after I sign the contract and decide to not join?(start date is 2 months from now)

I've been working in Python for about 4 years. I keep an eye on LinkedIn (reluctantly) just to see how the market is and get a sense of what's in demand. I noticed an ad recently and they were looking for a dev with exp in functional programming, specifically with a background in Clojure.
It got me thinking, is it a disadvantage when looking for the next gig to go from a fairly popular language to a fairly niche language? Are recruiters focussing on current/last role when contacting candidates? Curious to hear what the story is as I genuinely have no idea, inclined to think it probably would be a bit of a handicap but, yeah, just a guess tbh.

I wrote this for a non-technical audience, because I think this trajectory is less obvious if you’re not using coding agents daily, but wanted to share here as I thought this group would have good feedback.
The TL;DR is that by this time next year we’ll have Mythos-class open weight models, optimised for lower inference costs and ablated to remove security guardrails, so hacks like the ones we saw on the HSE during COVID will become rampant, unless we act now.

Is anybody here familiar with FreeTV.ie?
I want to buy one of their small 19" network cabinets, as they are the cheapest around (probably quality wise too).
I want to get some castors for it, but the cabinet product page doesn't show any decent pics or details of castor suitability and the website offer single bolt style castors and also 4 bolt :/
I know I can just get the 4 bolt version and drill the cabinet if needed.. but it would be annoying if it arrived as a single bolt version.
.....and why don't I ask them? Because their customer service is atrocious.. they don't respond to emails, and when I pushed them for a reply I got a snarky email back that only answered one question and ignored the other...the phone number is only for tracking order and they don't give tech advice or discuss their products on it. Frustrating.
I would post a link to the cabinet I want..but Reddit hates that eh.
