Discussion Current Team of the Season is in 5-2-3. Are midfielders dead?

Typical FPL meta is to go heavy on midfield in 3-5-2 or 3-4-3. But right now? Outside of Groß and Tavernier, who is actually worth owning?

- Palmer and Rogers delivering back-to-back blanks, plus a red card for dessert. FPL heritage.

- Predicting Cherki/Foden/Doku/Ndiaye minutes is harder than finding a stray hair on Maresca's pillow.

- Gibbs-White is forced to play with Liam Delap.

- Arsenal: Saka's broken, Odegaard vanished, Rice is a DM. Triple their defence and save yourself the headache.

- Schade started season strongly. Went 1-0-2 in the last 3.

- Mbeumo plays up top for a club down bottom.

- Bruno costs 11.7 mil to watch Mbeumo.

- Liverpool mids offer zero upside when Isak hogs all the chances.

- Manzambi is in good form with lovely fixtures. Never completed 90 minutes though.

Do you think it's just a blip? Or are you binning midfield for premium forwards and defenders?

FPL Brain: How did the algo do in GW8? 71 points, GW Rank 50k

For anyone not subscribed: a few seasons ago I built an algorithm that picks FPL players based on expected points. It’s all hand-built math, no AI. A few days before each gameweek, it emails subscribers a recommended team.

This week: 71 points (GW rank: ~50k). I’ve finally figured out how to pull estimated GW rank, so I’ll include it from now on.
Last week: 68 points vs. a league average of 59

The model needs a few gameweeks of data before it settles, so expect it to get more consistent from here.

After his recent price drop, is Hume quietly getting close to an option?

This is definitely not just because he’s one of few northern Irish players in the league, but after the recent price drop he’s now £4.2m for a defender that gets into some pretty advanced positions and may even get RW minutes. He seems to be back to solid minutes, Sunderland’s defence looked better in a statistically relevant one game sample but it’s not an unreasonable expectation of Sunderland being a better defence than they have been to start the season.

How did veterans perform and which players made a difference (GW8)

This goes with Picks and transfers the veteran managers made this week compared to sample of top 100k

Summary: Reasonably good GW for the veterans, gaining 3 points on current top 100k. Main differential was Muharemović - who I (casual) will admit I hadn't heard of. Main missed points stuck on bench included 2 Spurs players.
