Where Do We Draw the Line Between Human Creativity and AI in Film?

Hi everyone, I'm an Honours screenwriting student researching if AI-generated screenwriting can be considered art or not and, if so, to what extent.

My study draws on Dewey, Dickie and Danto’s 'institutional theory’, which argues that something can count as art if the artworld (institutions, critics, artists and audiences) recognises and accepts it as such. That is why I'm collecting honest perspectives from AI skeptics or enthusiasts to see how they view AI-Generated scripts.

Which one should you  do?
Survey (about 10 min): open to anyone who watches film/TV, https://tally.so/r/laDo15
Written interview (about 20 min): only for working or aspiring screenwriters, filmmakers, film critics or industry professionals, https://tally.so/r/68bRXe

There’s very little research on AI in filmmaking, and I’m doing this study to help fill that gap. I’m not trying to prove that AI can or can’t make art, and I haven’t reached a conclusion. That will only come from analysing your responses, not from my own opinion. Whether your view is positive or negative, benevolent or harsh, I would like to hear it.

Discussion Any animation lovers? or litrally anyone i need ur opinion on animation movie styles

I'm researching how modern 3D films are ditching photorealism (Pixar-like movies) for stylized, comic/hand-drawn looks (Spider-Verse, Arcane, TMNT) and whether audiences love it or get visual fatigue.

For the franchise completionists, how do you track down and organize all the deep-cut content (webisodes, promos, deleted scenes, etc)?

I have made a documentary about a Puch Maxi club in a small town in Denmark, and the full film is now available on YouTube!
It’s about friendship, freedom, a little beer, mopeds, and finally getting back on the road after a long winter.

English subtitles are available — just turn them on in the video settings.

Discussion Thoughts on American Beauty (1999)

Post image

American beauty still stands as one of my favorite movies of all time. I agree some of the moments haven't aged gracefully, but i feel it deserves a better rating (3.9 is a pretty high score though, but maybe a 4?) What are your thoughts?

Discussion Which movie adaptation changed a character so much that it became the version people remember?

I’ve been thinking about cases where an adaptation doesn’t just translate a character to the screen — it changes what audiences think the character is.

RDJ’s Tony Stark is an obvious example. His version became so dominant that even people who never read the comics have a very specific idea of what Iron Man is supposed to be like.

But I’m curious about less obvious examples.

Which movie or TV adaptation changed a character so successfully that later versions almost had to react to it?

And what actually changed — the personality, look, tone, humor, backstory, or something else?

Discussion What would you say is the one movie that 99% of people have seen

I was thinking the other day if there is one fandom so large that most people know about it/are apart of it. My thought that it was probably Marvel but then I was wondering if there just one movie that most people have seen. Like, it's such a classic that it's more likely someone has seen it then not. What do you think?

Edit: I don't mean literally 99% of people, I mean like a movie that's such a classic that it's more likely someone has seen it then not.

Movies Six early Christopher Nolan films, six overlapping clues. Can you place every film once?

Nolan's recurring cast makes a good little matching problem. Here's a six-film round you can solve entirely in this post, with no plot knowledge needed.

Match each numbered clue to one lettered film. Use every film exactly once. A film can fit several clues, but only one complete lineup works.

Films:

  • A. Inception
  • B. Following
  • C. The Prestige
  • D. Memento
  • E. Batman Begins
  • F. Insomnia (the 2002 Nolan film)

Clues:

  1. Features Michael Caine
  2. Was released before 2002
  3. Features Christian Bale
  4. Features Guy Pearce
  5. Features Hugh Jackman
  6. Features Al Pacino

If you know a film fits two clues, keep both possibilities open until you know which slot needs it. The optional fact sheet below lets you treat this as a logic puzzle even if you haven't seen all six.

Optional facts:

Among the five actors named in the clues: Inception has Caine; Following has none; The Prestige has Caine, Bale and Jackman; Memento has Pearce; Batman Begins has Caine and Bale; Insomnia has Pacino. Following and Memento were released before 2002. Insomnia came out in 2002, Batman Begins in 2005, The Prestige in 2006 and Inception in 2010.

Answer:

1–A, 2–B, 3–E, 4–D, 5–C, 6–F.

Deduction:

Jackman fixes The Prestige at 5, leaving Batman Begins for Bale at 3, then Inception for Caine at 1. Pearce fixes Memento at 4, leaving Following for the pre-2002 slot. Pacino fixes Insomnia at 6. All 720 assignments were checked; this is the only complete solution.

Which connection gave you your first firm match? Please hide answers with spoiler tags.

Credit and release sources: Following (Criterion), Memento (AFI), Insomnia (AFI), Batman Begins (AFI), The Prestige (AFI), Inception (AFI).

Creator disclosure: I'm Charlie, and I make Cast Six, a daily movie-matching game. AI assisted the game, this puzzle and this post. The game's movie facts and posters come from TMDB. This is a separate standalone round, not today's website puzzle. The daily and archive are free without an account or download.

Ok I have watched this multiple time but now just noticed that an extra went a little overboard during the Mardi Gras chase scene actually flashing her boobs. Has anyone else noticed this?

Is this director a name now, or are we connecting dots after the fact?

I just watched DRIB after Sick of Myself came out. The fake energy drink promo made me go, “oh, he’s been at this for years.” Then I caught myself. That’s an easy way to make a career look planned.

In my opinion, Sick of Myself is a nasty little spiral. Dream Scenario turns an awkward guy into a public event. The Drama squeezes it all into one couple. They don’t feel like the same movie to me. The characters do keep getting stuck on how others see them, though.

For a while Kristoffer Borgli was just “the Dream Scenario guy” in my head. Now people talk like there’s a clear master plan. I’m not sure how much of that is hindsight.

When did he become someone you'd watch just for his name? And what ties the movies together?
