You have asked, we have answered.

This sub was built on community decisions. So here is a poll that I will pin to get everyone's opinion of what we choose to allow going forward.

Feel free to express your opinion on the subject in the comments, such as

  1. Should this be a ban-able offense without warning (permanent)
  2. A suspension, and if so, how long
  3. In what areas if any would we allow that type of content

Fooking Kneelers If Tommen had just a little bit of Joffrey in him he IMO would've been a decent King, and with the right guidance could've ruled for years.

Tommen was FAR too soft to be a king and Joffrey was FAR too cruel to be King for a long period of time. However if you were to somehow combine the 2 I think it could've worked.

You are the newly crowned King Joffrey, with a war approaching with the North, you need a competent and trustworthy small council. Who you name for each position?

An alternative history for Rickon Stark.

Post image
32 Upvotes

For those who don't know who he is, he's the son of Ned Stark and Catelyn Tully. The brother of Sansa, Arya, Robb, and Bran. Jon is a filthy bastard, so we don't count him.

I've been wondering what kind of story could be interesting for his character, and I came up with the idea: what if Rickon became a sadistic psychopath?

In theory, it could make sense, considering that he's been dealing with trauma and family tragedies from a very young age. All those experiences could plant the seeds of ruthlessness in him, which he could eventually turn into a desire for revenge.

He'd be a cool contrast to the other Starks we've come to know throughout the story.

Rickon "The Blood Wolf" Stark.

Would Walder Frey have still betrayed Robb even if he did honour his agreement to marry his daughter?

• Upvotes

What I mean is if Robb did everything as he does in the books/show but doesn’t marry Talissa/Jeyne would it have actually changed the outcome.

Walder Frey is shown to be a cautious man and when he could tell that the war was shifting in favour of the Lannisters with the Karstarks abandoning Robb, losing Jamie, the iron born attacking and the formation of the Lannister/ Tyrell alliance. If Tywin or Roose still approached him with the idea of betrayal then he probably would still have agreed.
If he doesn’t have quibbles over killing his own guests and his king, and doesn’t care about Catlyn killing his wife/son then would it really make a difference that the king he’s killing is his son in law?
I can imagine that when Robb comes back to the Twins, Walder simply demands that he weds his daughter then and there at the twins in case anything would happen to him in the war and then the red wedding just happens as it did anyway.

Roose Bolton would still have betrayed him and Walder would have seen the tide turning against him, Robb breaking his oath was really just a convenient pretence that the Freys could use to justify they’re actions.

Edit: To clarify I don’t necessarily mean killing Robb but perhaps taking him captive like he did Edmure

What do you think would've happened if Lyanna survived childbirth?

Post image

I'm honestly curious what the sub thinks.

While doing my usual late night lore scrolling it strikes me as incredibly story convenient that she dies in childbirth. Although that's not anything new or even unique to GRRM.

But it begs the question. What if? How could Ned have kept the secret? What would Robert's reaction be?

And it begs an even further question. Is it possible she DID survive and Ned hid her? Idk about that one. Just curious what everyone thinks.

Kind of crazy that the Targaryens lost everything because of rhaegar and Lyanna's love story which caused rickard and brandon deaths and resulted in robert rebellion happening . After all marriages in westros are purely political.

Any ASOIAF Character you feel bad for?

There are obviously lots of them across the books, like Jeyne Poole and Elia and Naerys, etc. But one character that I feel so bad for is Prince Rhaegel Targaryen. He clearly had some developmental problems and he was mad, but not Aerion mad. He was sweet and gentle. Imo I don't think Rhaegel should have ever been forced to marry(if he was) and the fact that his two eldest Aelor and Aelora also died gruesome deaths and his youngest Daenora had to marry Aerion really makes me feel bad for his whole family line. A line that I found really sweet as well was that Maekar loved Rhaegel dearly

Why wasn’t Jon Snow disguised as Howland Reeds bastard and fostered at Winterfell?

Basically the title… After defeating the kings guard and receiving the baby, they get out of the tower and claim that he is Howland Reeds bastard son. As wives understandably don’t like bastards and as a service for their friendship and a thank you for saving Ned’s life (this is all acted of course) they give Jon Snow to Ned to be fostered at Winterfell from the get go. This is actually common practice, as we know the bastard of Hornwood is fostered by the Glovers for example. Robb and the other Starks would grow really close with Jon and see him as family because he lived with them basically since he was born and Catelyn wouldn’t have such a distaste for Jon, making it infinitely easier for him and also for Ned too without breeches honor. Also, this makes him way easier to hide and more inconspicuous than the bastard of a high paramount m/warden lord, he’d still receive the same benefits and training. Maybe they could even have adopted him or asked for his legitimization if they were feeling really bold. Only problem I see is that he couldn’t become king of the north as in the show, it adoption could’ve changed that.

The only problem I see is that

If Stannis won at Blackwater, would he have killed Joffrey and Lancel or would he have recognized their value as prisoners and kept them alive?

• Upvotes

I think Davos would've convinced Stannis to keep them alive as leverage against Tywin.

Would prime Arthur Dayne stand a chance against Karl Tanner?

Post image
771 Upvotes

Genuine question. Both of them died dishonourable deaths, being attacked from behind by a treacherous Stark and his sidekick Howland Reed / a woman who happens to be both Craster’s wife and daughter. There’s a common denominator here. It shows that the only way to beat them is through dirty tricks, because in a straight-up fight, you have virtually no chance against either of them.

But I’m curious: who’s better? Honestly, I think Arthur is overrated, but I’m curious to hear what you peasants think. Karl Tanner is straight-up OP.

Why didnt the targs invade essos

I cannot think of any good reason why it hasnt happened atleast once. Westeros has the Vale and The Reach which both generate thousands of knights eager to gain titles and glory on the field, the Ironborne who are literally a society solely dedicated to raping, pillaging and murdering foreigners, northmen who love war and literally have a culture of dying in battle to spare resources for the young, westerlands with similar knightly culture and a desire for wealth and prestige, the stormlands which are again a martial culture that loves fighting, and (later on) dorne with a large fleet and closeness to essos. And of course, dragons. Not to mention almost all essosian cultures follow religions deemed demonic by both faiths of westeros so you can spin it to be a religious thing too.

Why are they not invading essos every other year? They entire society of westeros is dedicated to producing thousands of warrior elites that do NOTHING!! Nowonder they keep fighting eachother, what else is there to do! Could you imagine how much less internal issues there would be if everyone could busy themselves with raiding the summer islands or sieging the free cities instead of being stuck at home all day? Really i dont understand
