Looking for Old Photos of Video Box Office & Checker Video
These were the two video stores I grew up with throughout the 90’s till the early 00’s until (I’m assuming) Hollywood Video and Blockbuster put them out of business. I wanted to see if anyone had any pictures or other documentation of their existence.
Checker Video was kinda near the edge of Glen Burnie, close to Ferndale and Linthicum. It was in the shopping center that the Food Lion at 7069 B&A Blvd is now in.
My mom managed the Hardees and later Roy Rogers where the Dunkin Donuts is now. She typically worked till like 5 on Fridays, so she would pick me up from elementary school, I would hang out, play gameboy, draw, or play in the ball pit till she got off work. We would always then put in a pizza order at Little Caesars, hop on over to Checker Video, and she always let me pick out two movies and a video game. Browsing those shelves is kinda what kickstarted my love of horror and B-movies. I heard rumors that it actually got shut down due to the owner bootlegging tapes and selling dupes, but who knows.
Video Box Office was also on B&A Blvd, but further south in a shopping center near Harundale. I think Level Up Games at 7602 B&A Blvd occupies the space now.
We started going here more in the late-90’s after my mom got a new job and it was more convenient since it was right near our house, I went to Glendale Elementary and my brother went to GBHS. I cleaned out their horror section using saved up allowance and lunch money when they shut down in 2000 or early-2001.
Anybody remember these places? I have such fond memories and would love if there was anything out there that could actually remind me of exactly how it all looked.
