Discussion Why are these enemies harder than the actual bosses?

I'm playing God of War III, and I think I've found the most annoying enemy in the game so far.

These guys come in pairs, carry swords, and hit ridiculously hard. I can barely dodge their attacks, and they kill me so easily. I've fought bosses that felt easier than these guys.

Am I missing something, or are these enemies genuinely this difficult?

I've seen comments from people who don't like Tyr's suggestion that Kratos might have been driven by deeper, more "noble" motives. Let’s be honest: Kratos is an antihero, and when he waged his conquests as part of his military campaigns and encountered barbarians, he was driven by his ambition, sense of power, hubris, and pride as the original games made abundantly clear to all of us. So when he finally hit a wall and was about to die, Kratos summoned Ares because he couldn’t accept defeat and death at the peak of his young career.

Years later, this seemingly clear picture suddenly takes a slight twist because the developers themselves wanted to give this moment an ambiguous undertone by asking what would have happened if Kratos hadn’t stopped them by summoning Ares, and whether he felt no obligation to protect Sparta and its people which is meant to give his selling his soul to Ares a more heroic tone, since, after all, Kratos was guided by what he at that moment, rather than what was about to happen.

And I noticed that some people didn’t really like this because they felt as though the developers themselves wanted to change and whitewash the selfish and arrogant image of the young Kratos and rewrite the old games by giving a previously unnoticed depth to this specific decision of Kratos since the old games were unambiguous in that it was about the inability to come to terms with defeat, desperation in the face of death, and winning at all costs. Do you think this was a good move, or do you feel like it was an unnecessary and harmful addition to lessen the burden of Kratos choice?

During my playthrough I couldn't help but notice that unlike in other games where the Titans are nearly all the same size , here in GoW CoO we see different titans with different sizes

Some aren't much bigger than the colossus of Rhodes , some are as large as Ares , and then we got to see Atlas former holding prison in the last pic and the share size difference add a lot of weight and good build up to what we are going to see later , he's really REALLY huge

Bug/Glitch Ragnarok CCE-34878-0 error

Hey guys. I'm new here.

I have a Ps4 Slim, I've played gow Ragnarok 3 times. once with a rented console, and 2 times with mine.

i get an error, CE-74878-0 only when I'm fighting Odin at the end!

it happens when we get the stage which we have to use specific weapons in order to fight him. like the axe for the fire health bar.

suddenly it crashes.

it happened in two consoles. but the thing is the game was version 1 in both consoles. now i have another upgraded version of the game and I'm afraid to play.

did anyone else suffer the same thing?

was it fixed in later versions?

ps: im in a country in which I can't use psn or stuff like that, our internet connection is limited. so using the internet or updating to a newer version is not an option

Discussion The fact that Kratos met Atlas a few years before his discovery and surprised to find that Kronos was alive is not a plot hole

The fact that Kratos met Atlas before God of War 1 is not a plot hole

Dialogue from the God of War 2005

Kratos: A titan lives?!

Athena: Kronos is the last, Zeus has commanded him to wander the desert endlessly, the temple of Pandora chained to his back, until the swirling sands rip the very flesh from his bones.

It's worth recalling that Atlas died during the first Titanomachy when Hades, with Poseidon's help, tore his soul from his body, and Atlas was subsequently imprisoned in Tartarus. When Kratos learns of Atlas's escape from Tartarus and later confronts him and Persephone, Atlas was already considered dead just as Kratos was considered dead when he wandered through Hades in God of War 2005 after being killed by a column hurled by Ares. Kratos was surprised that a Titan was still alive, since Kronos had not been killed by Zeus, and Atlas had had his soul torn from him and been condemned to Tartarus which, logically speaking, made him dead. That's why I don't understand why people say this contradicts the game, since Kratos was surprised that a Titan was still alive, even though Atlas whom he had encountered earlier had been killed by Hades and sent to Tartarus, which makes him dead to both the mortal world and Olympians.

If anyone thinks that having one's soul ripped out isn't the same as death, let me remind you that Hades is considered dead after Kratos ripped out his soul with his own weapon.

Discussion A wild take for GoW Norse Saga bosses.

In Greek games you fight almost all of popular greek myth mans/womans. But in the Norse games everyone suddenly become your friend. As a result the only popular norse myth guys fight stuck with Baldur. All of other boss fights doesn't felt like you actually fight with a god/godness. This is result this games felt like not made for gameplay but made for movie where you just suppossed to sit and watch. A movie with MCU humor and not a serious tone.

You are free to tell me how stupid I am because Kratos is now a real father and hero and not a brutal monster anymore.

I'm playing God of War III, and I don't understand why characters like Hephaestus think they can secretly kill Kratos.

Bro, this man has already killed multiple gods. What makes you think your little plan is going to work?

Do these characters genuinely think they're going to be the exception, or are they just desperate at this point?

Discussion Do you think God of War should go back and create a "Connecter" game to show how Kratos went from GOW 3 to GOW 2018?

This was a discussion me and a friend were having about how it leaves things open due to how GOW ended and Kratos suddenly ending up in the Norse Ralems and just claims he "walked" to the Norse Ralems.

I think it would be nice to see what he had to go through to reach the Norse Ralems, how he met and got with Fey and maybe even see him go from angry bastard to mature serious father figure.

Discussion Ascension should be getting more love and appreciation.

Before I start. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, haha.

Anyway Ascension is a game that does great when it comes to story. You could argue about how the pacing is meh (though I like it since it follows a similar path to GoW 1 story pacing.) and how players at the time wanted a sequel but in the story department they do it justice since it shows us a more human side of Kratos that GoW 2 and 3 as much as I love and adore, butchered his character.

You do get to see him being good friends with Orkos and him being way more calm in general and really just a dad who got his wife and child taken away from him who trauma and guilt still haunts. And he just wants them back. (That scene with calliope is heartwarming and heartbreaking 🥹)

In the gameplay department, it's also fun! We got a whole new meaning to the grab system which is infinitely better than GoW 3.

The world weapons are awesome also, they essentially work as your secondary weapons. The shield is broken as hell and is a weapon of mass destruction! There are techniques you can use for it but for that you have to check extremegameplay's vid about the world weapons because me explaining it will take a while haha. Or in short when you do a plume attack with shield swap between the elements repetitively and see what you get :)

The sword has an awesome stun mechanism to it. The mace works like a barbarian hammer from GoW 2.

The whole elements system is awesome and especially with the moveset which the Norse saga took from. Only thing locking it down is the rage mode. Which while I wish was done better but I do still enjoy! Since it keeps you active in the game in the sense of changing your techniques and etc and having to adapt to different situations so you can unlock more moves.

The AWESOME MUSIC IN THE GAME AND THE GAME ART! Ascension also gets the dark atmosphere way better than 3.

And also the climbing and sliding sections!

Overall ascension is both overhated and underrated.

Showcase God Of War 3's combat is so much fun.

Been f'ing around with the combat today for a while got myself a lot of clips haha. The game's combat being broken since the game tends to be more of a story game is what makes it fun since you can experiment with stuff! they didn't put in mind that the game's combat will be broken to the point players experiment with a lot and get awesome results. (well that's the entire franchise in general tbh.)

I love all the God Of War games but God does GoW 3 have a special spot in my heart.

Discussion I’m I the only one disappointed in Ragnarok’s Muspelheim Trials

Post image
85 Upvotes

I just beat all six of Muspelheim’s Crucible Trials in a very short time and I was very disappointed in the difficulty of these trials. I remember 2018 having way harder trials than these with more enemy variety and a queen valkerie (is that how you spell it) to top it off, these just didn’t do it for me
I’m not even done with the story by the way, I’m I good or can the devs do better? Maybe I’m missing something?

Edit: i got disappointed only after beating the trials which complete the “Into the Fire” quest and thought of this post immediately I saw the “the final challenges” quest

So there’s actually more content which requires combinations of the previous challenges to unlock new challenges, for those who haven’t already played them

I’m playing on the second hardest difficulty by the way, the hardest is actually so hard and manageable at the same time but I actually found out you don’t really get rewarded for that playing on GMGOW so that’s a meh for me

Discussion I dislike Kratos' current character (Ragnarok Spoilers) Spoiler

I've played through all of the games, and I'll be honest, this is the safest, most generic way they could've taken Kratos' character. 2018 was great because it was showing his father-son dynamic and him trying to be a better father to Atreus, while still being afraid of who he used to be (not wanting Atreus to follow in his footsteps, etc). That worked really well for being the first game in the saga imo, I liked the grounded combat, but only because I thought they would have more character development in the 2nd game.

GoW:R comes around, what does Kratos get? A literal Disney-esque story about revenge bad, I swear to god every triple AAA game has to have the moral on the nose as if they're feeding the games to literal children. People constantly keep saying you see Kratos slip into his old habits, and I just don't see it. It's played so safe that there is absolutely zero tension or suspense on what Kratos will do, you know he will always do what is right.

There was one exception, Heimdall, but they messed up with him as well. All we "get" is Kratos snapping Heimdall's head. The "rage" mode in these games is so sanitized to the point where I feel like I'm playing a game that's severely ashamed of where it came from, and wants to just "tell" you how bad Kratos used to be, without ever having the suspense of him trying to not slip into that old self.

Compare this to God of War 3. Hera pits Kratos against Hercules, and Kratos tries to genuinely reason with Hercules, but he's *still* intimidating and terrifying to the audience. He doesn't want to fight Hercules, or really any other gods in Greece except Zeus, he genuinely tries to walk away from most of them (as long as it doesn't serve his purpose), but the tension comes the moment they don't walk away. When they try to provoke him over and over. Kratos was genuinely walking away from Hera until she insulted Pandora and called her a whore (Pandora essentially reminded Kratos of his daughter).

These moments of tension, I feel like, were the intent in a lot of the scenes in 2018 and Ragnarok, but...they kinda fall flat? Since we never see Kratos ever come close to the level of brutality he did in Greece, there is no tension, because you know it's never going to happen. It's so safe, and sanitized is crazy.

Let me reiterate this by saying, I love the new direction, it makes sense for Kratos in 2018 to be ashamed of his past and to try and bury it, to hide it from Atreus because he's afraid to let Atreus become like him. But...I feel like the main takeaway from Ragnarok should have been that repressing who Kratos is does not help anyone and it would be more interesting if he were to direct that anger towards things that matter rather than completely repressing it.

That seems like a much more nuanced story, but probably harder to pull off than whatever they went with in Ragnarok... Kratos essentially feels like he's the same character and the only thing that's "developing" is his relationship with Atreus, which is a missed opportunity imho, his character development arc should not be him repressing what makes him iconic, it fits better if he accepts his rage as just a part of him, but becomes better at directing it.

Some people will say this is what they thought happened in the new games, I did not even see a hint of that. I've literally heard characters mentioning he's holding back even when he's going full rage mode. That should be the natural end state of his character and it will also keep him from being stale and boring in the new games imho. Though, if anyone has any better ideas, I'd be up for discussion, I just don't see how they continue God of War with how Kratos evolves to be at the end of Ragnarok.

(I have issues with the game itself with Ragnarok being extremely underwhelming, game being too padded out, etc. but this post is just all the issues I have with Kratos as a character by the end of the saga. Again, it made sense Kratos in 2018 was like this, but them not evolving him past the repression phase seems very weird).

One more thing, I *hate* this idea of making oscar-bait/Emmy-bait games, please leave that in Hollywood, we don't need that. This "one-take" idea is cool in theory, but it clearly detracts from developers being able to articulate the sense of scale as well as the Greek games. That should not even be anywhere but the bottom of the priority list of a game, that stuff only belongs in TV Shows/Movies (like when Mr Robot did it). It's absurd the need for every big AAA game to try and be Hollywood, I've seen an edit of Joel (TLoU) using an axe finisher that cuts into Kratos' leviathan axe animation on an enemy and that transition is seamless, 1:1, it's uncanny.

Again, I love Kratos' character in 2018, but I don't think he was anywhere close to fully developed yet, and in Ragnarok they developed him too far in the other direction. It's the safest most generic end state to a very unique and iconic character imho. God of War 3 had character development with Kratos already, tbh, the ending is literally only possible because he has forgiven himself enough to be able to Hope. Idk if they can ever make Kratos a unique character again without relying on the Greek saga backstory under modern Sony standards tbh.

I also see a lot of people claiming that "That's the point. Kratos is *supposed* to not be like the Greek games, he's trying to not be the same person as he used to be". This is exactly what I have issues with, Kratos did some insanely heinous and fucked up shit, but what he *did* is the issue, he is a flawed person since the very beginning. It's less interesting to just bury your flaws than to overcome them, I feel like. It's just way more interesting to see a Kratos who is able to be angry, but also rational enough to direct that anger towards those that deserve it, rather than being a complete pacifist. It's wayyyy less interesting to completely remove a character flaw, you can't even say "you can see him struggling to repress it" when he does not let it leak through even once. His "rage" sections are *not* it leaking through, as I mentioned before, other characters even say that he's not fighting at full strength even when he's using rage.

Also, missed opportunity by the devs is that they could've made Kratos' rage mode essentially pull the camera back and give him back his hack-and-slash gameplay for the duration of the rage mode. That would be extremely immersive because you'd be *living* what Kratos feels like when he taps into rage mode, rather than the super basic, extremely safe, punching simulator you get.

Idk man, there's so many cool ways to have that character development and *still* keep Kratos consistent with his unique characteristics, they seem to have taken an extremely easy and safe approach to everything. How Kratos was in Greek is only ever mentioned, Atreus never sees even a glimpse of it. What made Kratos feel like a God rather than just a very muscular person in the Greek games was that he would use the Blades of Chaos as a natural extension of his own body, and he was agile enough to be extremely lethal while flowing smoothly across enemies. That...being reduced to Kratos mostly using his bare hands makes me feel so underwhelmed.

Rant went on for way longer than I'd hoped, TLDR, they could've done more interesting stuff with Kratos' character in Ragnarok. You could tell me that Kratos did go through the character arc I'm describing right now, but I did not *see* any of it. Being *told* it, and seeing it realistically are two different things. I'm 90% sure people would not mind if Kratos was still angry but only directed it towards the Gods that have genuinely wronged him (granted killing them doesn't cause actual literal disasters) especially since the only 2 gods he really wanted to kill were Area and Zeus, for good reasons. The other gods just refused to back down even when he was trying to spare them, they went out of his way to provoke him. What we got was some Disney-esque conclusion to Ragnarok, of all things, the final battle royale of the Gods and it being the most underwhelming section that was less than two hours.

Okay, 3 AM, I should sleep now, Goodnight.
