Ah, you know yourself Social difficulties in rural

Happy stormy Sunday guys, usually I'd see someone asking for the weekly checking and what's going on with you. But I'm gonna jump the gun and ask people for some help.

My young lad is 19 he's a gamer not sporty works hard at his job doesn't drink satirical humour and obviously I think he's great, however he's having issues with friends. His main group of friends have been online for the last 3-4 years he's not super social , more lonely as hes pulled away from them (hes noticed the keep asking him for money for this game or that online as there not working which but the cold shouldered him when he started to refuse as he felt used ). He's never been out with a girl but because we live semi rural he finds it difficult to meet people. He confided in me yesterday that it's upsetting him the usual teenage and in alot of cases adult thoughts of "people don't like me, I'm not attractive, what's wrong with me," etc. It upset me a bit even though I know it's common, I can't help it. I don't know what advice to give I'm a introvert but have my groups and always have was far more social younger and recommended going to a bar to meet people but the culture isn't there like it used to be or atleast not as accessible for us. How do I help I suggested finding some groups books, meet ups, volunteering so on. He is shy and it brakes my heart he feels alone.

I know it's a common thing but what have people done to help themselves in similar situations. We are in cavan area if that helps with suggestions.

Now that's off my chest how are you people, I hope the storm left yas reasonably untouched and that yas are having a peaceful well deserved Sunday rest.

A Redditor Went Outside What Did We Witness? Achill Island Sept 2024

SOLVED - Achill Rovers won a final! Thanks everyone, appreciate all the replies.

Okay. The evening of September 18th 2024, my birthday, we are Canadian tourists on Achill Island. We went to a pub on the island (I think it was Ted's pub) to have a drink for my birthday and when we pulled in there were two men starting a great big fire in a tin garbage can. We watched it for a moment and then all of a sudden an impressive convoy of cars came by, everyone whooping and cheering and honking. A bunch of people ran out of the restaurant and were cheering. Completely bemused, we didn't know what to make of the situation and ended up just following the line of cars because why not.

It was one of the most magical evenings of my life. The night before we had woken up at 3:30 a.m. to see a partial lunar eclipse by the ocean in Connemara. And then this evening of my birthday it was a beautiful full moon and I have pictures of us by Keel Beach with the giant moon in the background that I will cherish forever. Anyways I'm getting sentimental. Probably the best 24 hours of my entire life.

Basically we followed this procession of cars - with what looked like teenagers hanging out of them - driving by houses all over Achill. Whereas at any other time I might have been concerned for the safety of the occupants of these vehicles, nothing bad could happen to anyone on such a magical evening. Some houses we drove by had fires ablaze but almost all had people outside cheering and whooping the joyous procession.

They turned around at some point to do another loop of the area and we went back to our rental. I got out sparklers that we had bought for my birthday and waited. They came by and there is a video of my husband and I with the sparklers cheering and yelling as they ran by honking. It was an insanely magical evening. And I often wonder, what was going on? I assume it was some kind of sports celebration but I have no idea.

Anyone?

Good bit of craic, third time going. First time getting the fast passes and it made such a difference. Still though, the crowds can get absolutely mental and the queues are massive.

ℹ️ Missing Missing Dog

Hi everyone, we're missing a very beloved senior cocker spaniel from the Coolrain area of Laois named Toby. He is an older gent and is deaf so may not respond to calls. He's chocolate brown with blondy bits on the top of his head and grey around his nose. He's microchipped and has a red collar on. He was last seen in the Coolrain/Glebe area but could be anywhere by this stage. If anyone has any information about Toby I would be hugely grateful as his family are desperate to find him. Thanks!

Entertainment RTE DIY SOS with Baz

Lads, love Baz and love this show! So heartwarming! Everytime I watch it though, I think to myself why does it take so long to get national infrastructure through when it seems to me ye can stick a load of tradies on a site and they will figure it out on their own?

Entertainment 2 old tv kids shows searching for

Hi all,

A long shot but hopefully someone here can help. There are two old tv shows I'm trying to see more of. However, they seem to be completely lost despite both having long runs. Apart from the very odd thing that has appeared online over the years not sure where else can go.

Have tried odd dedicated reddit here, tried speaking to people involved with shows and also RTE but all to little avail.

The two shows are Scratch Saturday

• Format: A children's and youth television series that ran from 1989 into the 1990s on RTÉ One.

• Content: Featured music videos, youth issues, street entertainment, reviews, and segments.

• Presenters & Crew: Presented by a team including Mary Kingston, Andy Ruane, Brian Graham, Brian Reddin, and Teresa Smith.

And Sattitude

Sattitude was a popular live Saturday-morning children's television show on RTÉ Two in Ireland that ran from 2001 to 2009.

• Target Audience: Aimed at children and teenagers aged 10 to 15.

• Format: A two-hour energetic broadcast featuring live studio audiences (broadcast from RTÉ Cork and Dublin), interactive texting, messy games, quizzes, celebrity interviews, skits, and music videos (including shows like The Simpsons and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch)

I'm hoping might be someone here that was involved in either of shows in likes of had a part on show, were in audience etc that might have something on tape or digitally? Please let me know, thanks in advance as would be wonderful to see

Ah, you know yourself Finding a Dublin Couple I met in London

Last week I was on my way to work on the tube and an elderly English lady and an Irish couple from Dublin got on the tube. They were chatting away as the older lady was helping them get the right tube stop and we ended up chatting for two or three stops.

The man said they had just been in Birmingham to see doctors as the Irish doctors had made terrible errors with his wife and had put her life at risk on the operating table (he in fact told me she had died on the operating table and was resuscitated. They were going to see more doctors in London.

I know how incredibly expensive London is and the private consultants here and it must be very stressful not knowing your way around. If anyone knows this couple I’d love to get in touch and give them my number and help them out so they have a friendly face when they come here. They seemed like such lovely people.

If anyone knows them, in the very tiny chance that someone does can you direct them to this post please?

It was such a flying moment (literally two or three tube stops) and I was kicking myself after I didn’t give them my details but I was late for work.

Thank you!

History RTE Live Premier League 2004-2007

I’m trying to list out the 45 premier league games RTE broadcast live at 3pm on a Saturday from 04-07.

I remember,

Crystal Palace 1 Liverpool 0 in 04/05. Liverpool played in the yellow away kit and Andy Johnson scored the winner for Crystal Palace.

Man Utd 1 Blackburn 2 05/06. Mortem Gamst Pedersen scored two at Old Trafford.

Liverpool 1 Sunderland 0 05/06. Xabi Alonso free kick won the game.

Wigan 0 Liverpool 4 in 06/07. Liverpool’s first away win that season. Craig Bellamy played a great game.

Anybody remember any others?

I have a travel pass with the companion pass and I commute with my friend on the train or local links busses whenever I’m lonely, I’ve been having one issue though;
My own local link bus driver from (881) refuses to accept the Companion pass and I’m not sure why,
he says family. but it’s the only time I’ve been told this!
my gov.ie and citizen information says it’s anyone over 16….im not sure is it a language barrier or pride can someone clarify if I can bring my friend on grounds of litteral company (bpd1) never had this issue on any other transport anywhere in the country just the one important bus I use to get into town
Mind its the same 3 people once or twice a week
