Mod Post Taking action against bots
We’ve heard your concerns about the increasing prevalence of bots in the subreddit and over the past week we’ve been taking steps to address it.
We’ve been trialling a new app called Bot Bouncer and it’s extremely effective. In fact, it’s quite scary just how convincing some of these accounts are. They’re able to communicate in a way that’s very natural, understand Irish culture and slang and generally blend in incredibly well. We’ve observed a number of you interacting with these accounts believing they were genuine users.
For the past week, we’ve been manually reviewing every flag from Bot Bouncer to make sure it’s accurately identifying accounts and that we’re happy with how it’s working.
Having now trialled it for a week, we’re confident enough in its accuracy to allow Bot Bouncer to issue bans itself going forward.
What if you’re falsely flagged?
Obviously, no automated system is perfect. If your account is incorrectly identified as a bot and banned, you’ll need to contact r/botbouncer via modmail to appeal the ban directly with them. Once they’ve reviewed your appeal, please let us know the outcome of their decision so we can follow up on our end where necessary.
We’ll continue to monitor how it performs and make adjustments if needed.
And perhaps most importantly, if you’ve spent the last week arguing with someone in the comments and thought “there is absolutely no way this person is real”… you may have been onto something! 😂

Mod Post Regarding News/Current Affairs/Global Events.
This is not the place to discuss these issues. This sub is a more light-hearted place where users can ask questions and advice on everyday issues.
We have seen another surge of qiestions about politics, News, whats going on in the States etc.
There's plenty of other subs on Reddit which deal with these issues.

Work Is it just my workplace that's insane?
I've been working in the same company for possibly far too long now (about 7 years) but might have a bit of Stockholm syndrome.
Now, I'm fairly realistic about work. I know it'll be stressful at times and you won't always agree with what's going on. It's not a fun palace.
Recently though, my place seems extra-crackers. Weak leaders who won't make a decision or make priorities (despite constantly claiming it's what we need to do). More work for the sake of being busy instead of actually making a difference. Less budget but higher expectations for more output. Absolutely no rational discussion.
I'm seeing more and more burnout, frustration and general despair.
How are things where you work? Is this how we are as a society or just the culture where I am?

Adulting Work Stress? What options do I have, if any!
Hey all,
I'm in my 30s, engaged but no kids + renting. I've been experiencing a lot of stress recently, I've recently gotten promoted and to say I've been struggling with the workload is an understatement. I got promoted into a position six months ago that I didn't apply for, it was more of a needs must situation, but was the natural progression for me in the company, so I was initially still proud of myself.
Anyway, flash forward to a couple of months later and I'm drowning in expectations, have no idea what I'm doing, and basically floundering from day to day. I have a really nice team but I'm struggling to sleep at night (I never had issues with this before). I work in a role involving management and stakeholders but as time goes on, it seems like the role just isn't for me, but there isn't that much out there. I keep telling myself I just need to be more resilient or get better at my job, but I can't seem to shake it, it's all I think about, even when Friday comes, I'm not delighted because I know I'll have to be back the following Monday, lost again. In terms of the money situation, I have a very small emergency fund, and my house deposit, which I've spent a really long time saving. I'm sick of whining as I can hear how it sounds to everyone. Any tips on how to manage this would be appreciated from people who may have gone through this before.
Thanks!

Serious Replies Only Babysitting rates in Ireland – am I undercharging at €15 an hour?
Hi all!
I’m 23F and have been babysitting for around 5 years now, looking after children for several local families, many of whom I babysit for regularly. I’ve built up great relationships with both the parents and children, and have always received really positive feedback.
I have experience caring for children aged 10 months to 12 years, usually minding 2–3 children at a time.
I’m quite a hands-on babysitter. Rather than just supervising the kids, I genuinely enjoy spending time with them, whether that’s playing games, baking, doing arts and crafts, reading or helping with bedtime routines.
I also have experience caring for children with autism and ADHD and am comfortable adapting my approach to suit each child’s individual needs, personality and routine.
Academically, I have a bachelor’s degree in Social Science, with a particular interest in psychology, child development and behaviour. I feel this has helped me better understand children’s needs and how to respond to different behaviours and situations.
At the beginning of this year, I increased my hourly rate from €10 to €15, having charged €10 for several years.
I’m now wondering whether €15 an hour is still on the lower side, considering my experience, the number of children I usually mind and how involved I am when babysitting.
The main reason I’m asking is that a new family has recently reached out to me about babysitting. Unlike my regular families, who all live within walking distance, this family would involve a 10–15 minute drive each way. Between the additional travel time, fuel costs and my experience, I’m unsure what hourly rate would be reasonable to quote them.
I’d particularly love to hear from parents:
- How much do you currently pay your babysitter per hour?
- Would you consider €15 reasonable for someone with my experience, or would you expect to pay more?
- Do you pay a higher rate when there are 2–3 children rather than just one?
I’m based in the Dublin/Wicklow area, so would be particularly interested in hearing what people around here are paying.
I’m not looking to overcharge families, especially those I’ve built lovely relationships with over the years, but equally want to make sure I’m charging fairly for my time and experience.
Would really appreciate some honest opinions, particularly from parents. Thanks!

Irish Culture Please help?
Hi,
Would you mind completing my survey?
I am a trainee clinical psychologist and I need 40 more people to take my survey. We are researching the role of habitual diet on mental health. It is open to everyone in Ireland, I would really appreciate it if you could consider completing it 🙏
This is the survey if you want to check it out 🙂

Entertainment Opinions on "No Worries If Not on RTÉ"?
I think it's ok and reasonably funny in parts. The problem is there's too big of a cast all doing different things. A bit of a camel by design. They're all known for online sketches too and sometimes they don't translate that well on TV. 30 second skit ideas get dragged out.

Random Sick guinea pig, any help avaliable?
Hello everyone,
I need to ask, is there any organization that would help us care for sick guinea pig for few days? He looks like he is getting better but he needs to be syrange fed. He only eats grass and carrot himself, but not a lot, so he needs to be fed by us.
We think he might have teeth problem, but we are not sure, we have appointment with exotic vet tomorrow but I am not sure if we can make it as I am in 41th week of my pregnancy and I started to have contractions today, so not sure how everything will progress followong hours.
I am just afraid to leave him alone 🥹
We dont have family around, it is only me and my partner.
We are in Drogheda.
Thank you very much for suggestions.❤️

Adulting How do you not get stressed about volunteer commitments?
I’m a member of a group where we do social meet-ups about twice a month around a shared interest/hobby. We usually get a turnout of about 10-15 people.
The original leader ran it like a side hustle, charging around €4 for meet ups that were often as basic as meeting in a cafe. He also used to have Eventbrite pages with posters etc, which I always felt was a bit overkill. I think charging made things more complicated, and that the amount he was making wasn’t it after the platform fees were taken away.
When the original guy had to move away a few months ago, I took the group over but decided that I’d do it all via WhatsApp, and wouldn’t charge. I wanted to have the ‘cover’ of being a volunteer if people were being too demanding, and also as having a side hustle would cause problems at work. It’s also a personal values thing, as well as the fact that if I wanted extra money there are easier ways to do it.
ANYWAYS - I’m finding it quite stressful at times. It’s surprising how demanding some people can be, even when you are a volunteer. I will say it’s a minority of the people, but still. Another big one being flakes, eg we went for food recently and it’s stressful if you have a reservation and people are dropping out.
The other thing I need to figure out is that when people want to do activities that involve collecting money via Revolut, how to do that without it getting messy.
I think in large part the answer is to try to care less and try not be a perfectionist. I’m sure there must be other people here with similar commitments?
I’m also trying to find a way to communicate some of this housekeeping stuff in a way that doesn’t sound school-teachery. But definitely I need to do some housekeeping to remind people that I’m not a customer service.

Work How to get a job?
Basically I’m really struggling to get a job. Born and raised here in Dublin. Have a sports management degree and teaching qualification. I’ve worked in various sectors the last 8 years, hospitality, childcare, customer service, sales, education, sport & fitness & arts. I’m looking for more of a role in sales/business job in an office. I’ve tailored my cv and I have applied to hundreds of jobs (indeed, LinkedIn, irishjobs etc). So far mainly rejections and very few interviews. I’m a hard worker and I just want a chance to prove myself rather than sit on the dole . Anyone that has any advice or could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. God bless

Relationships AITA for not offering to babysit my nieces?
Do parents automatically expect their siblings to offer to babysit?
My partner and I live approx. 3 hours away from his family. Between busy jobs, travel and weddings we both get down to see his family once every 2 months. He'll often go on his own.
I'm an only child and currently childfree by choice.
His older sister will often make snide comments about how we don't offer to babysit the two girls, which is true. But is a "village" automatically expected and are we the assholes for not offering?

Work Do hotels let non guests enter lobbies?
I wanted to know if hotels would allow non guests to sit in their lobby to study. I would like a change of scenery and especially on weekends when the library is closed.
If anybody ever worked in a hotel (especially in Dublin) , I would love to know what the policy is or are most generally sound
