Discussion Evangelism as a Confessional Lutheran (Confessional vs Missional Musings)
One of the unique aspects of evangelism in the Lutheran Church is that we not only are seeking to invite unbelievers in to hear God's Word but also have the opportunity to invite those outside the Church into parish life to experience the fullness of Christ's gifts including the Word and the Means of Grace.
This reality certainly makes St. Luke's statement in Holy Scripture, "Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled." particularly interesting.
What a great responsibility we have to be missional well beyond the modern American Christian idea of evangelism.
When we go to tell others about Christ for us as confessional Lutherans, it's to reach both non-believers and non-Lutherans, which is most of today's world.
Basically, everyone we reach, whether they claim Christ or not, needs to hear the message we carry of the pure Word and efficacious Sacraments.
I'm interested to hear your thoughts!
