‘Cold Case Files: The Rifkin Murders’ double episode from 2023 features LISK Task Force investigator Tifini Atai

Not directly related to this case, but figured there were enough connections that it might be of interest to folks in this thread, and hadn’t seen it discussed before so figured I’d mention it. I have had one of those “one show, all-the-time” channels on in the background this weekend playing episodes of Cold Case Files, and it has cycled through these Joel Rifkin episodes a few times, I hadn’t seen them previously. The episodes are focused on the effort to identify the two unknown Rifkin victims (“Number 6” and “Number 9”), and investigator Tifini Atai is featured prominently. Just thought this might interest folks since we know she was a key player in identifying RH, and has since been the lead investigator on several cold-case murder victims/missing persons who are often seen as being potential victims of RH.

This is the A&E page for the episodes, I haven’t found a non-🏴‍☠️ place to stream it without cable other than just by waiting for it to come up again on the Cold Case Files channel, but it does seem to be in heavy rotation there at the moment. There are some YouTube clips fwiw.

Heavenly Birthday Shannan

Heavenly Birthday, Shannan. 🤍

Some people leave this world, but never leave the hearts of those who loved them. And some souls leave an imprint so profound that even time cannot diminish their presence. You've left your imprint on me.

Today, I think about you. Not the tragedy, not the headlines, not the circumstances that made the world learn your name. I think about the beautiful life that existed before all of that. Your dreams, your laughter, your spirit, and all the things you should have had the chance to become.

I wish life had been kinder to you. I wish you had been given more time, more happiness, more opportunities to experience all the beautiful things this world had waiting for you.

You deserved so much more than the ending you were given.

But your life was never defined by how it ended. Your life mattered because you lived, because you loved, because you were here.

And you are still here. In the hearts you touched, in the lives forever changed by your story, and in the love that continues to carry your name forward.

I hope that wherever your beautiful soul rests, there is only peace. No fear, no sorrow, no pain. Just the warmth and love you always deserved.

Happy Heavenly Birthday, beautiful Shannan.

You are so much more than what happened to you. You always were. You always will be. 🤍

On CODIS laws and people like Rex

This is only tangentially related, so mods I apologize in advance and feel free to delete if it's breaking rules.

I've just watches Kara Robinson Chamberlain and Bonnie Lou's three part series The Serial Killer connection on Mark Richard Evonitz. They've discovered that even though he's confirmed to have killed at least three teenage girls and he kidnapped and assaulted Kara, he was never entered into CODIS because he commited suicide before he could be convicted.

It creates a loophole for perpetrators such as himself and Rex to commit and keep commiting crimes, also it creates a waste of police resources, and torture for families who could ostensibly have gotten their answers years ago.

Since we're all wondering if there'll be more crimes tied to Rex, especially with Tanya and Tatiana finally getting their own justice with a completely different perpetrators, does anyone know why CODIS and DNA laws in general aren't a federal thing? Especially with killers like Rex, Evonitz, Bundy, etc. who may (and) have used state lines as ways of protecting their own selves.

Someone mentioned Evonitz has two sisters, which have been refusing but are now slowly coming around to the idea of entering their own DNA into genealogical databases for potential matches, or entering Kara's SA kit as an 'unknown perpetrator' to find related crimes. Obviously, Rex's own DNA post conviction will or already has been entered, but what about the victims that were connected to him by the hair of his first wife? How would his DNA even help if there's other victims with such evidence?

Anyways, I highly recommend the series, it's on HBO, and it provides an insight to a (ex)wife who felt something was off and escaped and is clearly now experiencing it all over again, and is dealing with it much different than Asa.

Tanya Denise Jackson: The Woman Behind “Peaches”. Tanya was never simply “Peaches.” She was a woman with a history, a daughter, relationships, intentions, and a future she did not get to experience. Today she would be turning 56 years old.

The Case Against Andrew Dykes: When Suspicion Becomes a Substitute for Proof

Thumbnail

The prosecution of Andrew Dykes for the 1997 homicide of Tanya Denise Jackson presents a complex crossroads of forensic science, historical investigative reconstruction, circumstantial evidence, and criminal procedure. Nearly three decades after Tanya’s death, prosecutors have advanced a theory of criminal responsibility predicated upon biological evidence, an established intimate relationship, a possible interpersonal motive, the defendant’s military medical training, and statements obtained during a subsequent investigation.

But it isn't that simple....

Seeing Red: Anti-Sex Worker Bias in the Media - Film and Storytelling. Featuring Nicolette Brainard-Barnes

"Nicolette Brainard-Barnes is a young woman from New England whose life has been profoundly impacted by the themes in this film. When she was just 7 years old, she lost her mother, Maureen, to anti-sex worker violence. Maureen was working as an escort in 2007 when Rex Heuermann, a serial killer targeting sex workers, murdered her. Heuermann wasn’t caught until 2023, and a media frenzy has been harassing his victims’ families for decades. Nicolette was not only forced to grow up without her mom, but also in the long, painful shadow of anti-sex worker bias from neverending news cycles, films, books, and podcasts about her mother’s case. Her story, illuminated by the wisdom of her sex worker lineage, sheds light on the generational impacts of stigma and violence."

This documentary explores the historic media bias against sex workers. Nicolette brings a faceted perspective as Maureen is her Mom.

Seeing Red is still in production and is largely crowd-funded by a united community of sex workers, victims and family members and allies. Your support is greatly encouraged- follow the link on the 2nd image to donate in many different ways.

Joint Public Hearing of the Commission on Forensic Science and the DNA Subcommittee

Thumbnail

This meeting is critical because it centers on a request by the New York State Police to bring a powerful and controversial new DNA testing technology—Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) testing and Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy (FIGG)—in-house to their state-accredited laboratories.

The debate highlights a major tension between solving cold cases and protecting civil liberties:

  • Law Enforcement & Victim Advocates' Perspective: Proponents argue that SNP testing can analyze degraded DNA samples that traditional tests cannot. It has been instrumental in solving high-profile cold cases—such as identifying the suspect in the Gilgo Beach serial killings and the remains of World War I veteran George Clarence Seitz—offering long-awaited closure to victims' families.
  • Public Defenders' Concerns: Opponents, including organizations like The Legal Aid Society, are urging the New York State Commission on Forensic Science to deny or halt the request until clear legal rules and privacy regulations are established. Unlike traditional DNA testing, SNP testing can reveal sensitive health predispositions, physical traits, and deep genealogical data—potentially drawing innocent family members into police scrutiny through public ancestry databases without statutory safeguards.

Among the list of speakers will be Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney, Melissa Cann- sister of Gilgo victim Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Kristi Goncalves, Mom of Kaylee Goncalves.

The list also includes detractors such as The Legal Aid Society, about a dozen public defender firms, Brooklyn Defenders and New York County Defender Services.

I do not believe I have seen this posted before. But it appears Rex’s mother passed at the end of 2025. Below is a link of the page someone put together on findagrave.com. The reason I am sharing this is because there is a picture of Dolores and, well… the resemblance is striking.

4 Serial Killers On Long Island At The Same Time | 1994 (Inc Rex early years)

Long Island in 1994: Shulman, Bittrolff, Heuermann and the aftermath of Rifkin’s arrest
Liane and I just released the second part of our documentary collaboration with Joe Giacalone from True Crime with the Sarge, featuring retired FBI profiler Mark Safarik.
For those here who follow the cases beyond Gilgo, this looks at what was happening on Long Island in 1994. Rifkin was already in custody, but other killers were still out there.
We spend a substantial part of the film on Robert Shulman, Lisa Ann Warner and her mother’s fight to bring her home from Hart Island. We also cover Colleen McNamee, John Bittrolff, the Medford Jane Doe and Heuermann’s life during this period.
One thing we wanted to explore is how these cases look when you put their timelines alongside each other. We visit locations connected to the cases and discuss the investigations with Joe and Mark, while keeping the women and their families central to the story.
Full disclosure: this is our film. I’d be interested in hearing what this community thinks, particularly about the lesser-covered cases and anything you believe deserves a closer look.

"The Massapequa Park architect had shown little emotion — and no remorse — since his 2023 arrest, but he seemed rattled by the fury of his victims’ relatives when he returned to his cell at the Suffolk County courthouse in Riverhead. He told a New York State Court officer that he got through it all by staring at a large plaque behind State Supreme Court Justice Timothy Mazzei, who sentenced Heuermann to multiple life sentences.

The plaque says "In God We Trust."

🕯️ Today, we remember the lives taken by violence and honor the families and loved ones left behind.

Every victim was a person with a life, a story, a family, and a future that mattered.

At Gilgo Advocacy, we stand for victims and for justice, dignity, compassion, and hope.

We remember. We honor. We continue to seek justice.

🕊️ May every victim be remembered by name, and may every family know that they have not been forgotten.

Michael Pak

prefacing this by saying I believe Shannan’s death was accidental and that Pak didn’t have anything to do with it. but he is such a weird character and I don’t understand how he ended up where he did. How does a guy with two college degrees, who has worked multiple white-collar jobs, end up as a driver for escorts? How did he get involved in the human trafficking stuff in Sri Lanka and what exactly was his role? And it’s so weird to me that he gave up looking for Shannan after a couple of minutes, like she didn’t really matter to him, but then made the trek out to LI multiple times to help find her.

Stop Shaming Tanya Jackson

Thumbnail

And stop lionizing Andrew Dykes.

Impregnating one woman beyond the bounds of one’s marriage is infidelity, but simultaneously impregnating three women within a specific period of time? That’s philandering; the hallmark of a player, if you will.

Stop saying Tanya simply “followed” Dykes to Brooklyn. This insinuation paints her as a pesky, feckless fatal attraction who wouldn’t be ignored when, instead, it’s possible Dykes simply invited her to move with him.

A photo of Jackson shows her wearing what appears to be a traditional engagement ring. Is it? I don’t know, nor do I know the intricacies of their relationship, but it’s possible that Dykes, a serial philanderer, lured her across the country with the promise of a future together.

And make no mistake, one with an extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology could indeed conduct an at-home dismemberment, especially if said individual was trained to treat battlefield casualties (including those disfigured and/or dismembered through encounters with land mines). And yes, Tanya’s Brooklyn apartment afforded ample space & opportunity for a such a killing.

Also, remember: early reports noted that little Tatiana Dykes was found swaddled in a blanket, something many experts say suggests a familial and/or close connection to her killer.

But why didn’t Dykes seek out Tanya and Tatiana in the wake of their disappearance? No need. It was easier for him to paint Tanya as a flaky & flighty young woman rather than him be a man of accountability and integrity.

As for the claim that Dykes has never been in trouble: nonsense. He has - he was a total player - he just hadn’t been caught prior to December 3, 2025. (Refer to Rex Heuermann having no criminal history prior to July 13, 2023.) Dykes was an entrusted recruiter with rank, why would he risk his reputation over a Private who allegedly pursued him? 🤔

No one beyond the officials assigned to handle/litigate this matter knows the totality of the evidence, be it physical or circumstantial. Granted, what is known by the public at this time may appear mostly circumstantial, but the only thing showing Ms. Jackson as responsible for her own death is ignorance: the ignorance that calls Mr. Dykes “altruistic” for merely meeting parental obligations (i.e. physical and fiscal support).

To canonize Dykes for doing what parents should do is ludicrous, misogynistic, and an affront to every mother on the planet. This is ignorance in action: an unconscionable victim shaming & blaming that must stop.

Justice for Tanya & Tatiana 🩵

Someone should look into this.... especially regarding Asian Doe. The article claims to have interviewed someone who worked with Voldemort over many years....and who still has emails from him stating he was out of the office at "interesting" time periods. Hopefully the Authorities have these emails and this contact....I found it interesting. I was going through old posts and it stood out to me. Especially considering the one about JT cleatly demonstrates a now proven connection.

Quote from Article:

Heuermann wrote in an email March 25, 2011 — just before days before Jessica Taylor’s partial remains were found along Ocean Parkway — that he was “at home sick.”

Another missived showed Heuermann was away from his office from April 21 to April 26, 2011, just weeks after the remains belonging to an unidentified baby and an Asian man were found in the beach area, among a total of 11 bodies discovered.
