Discussion Decomposing stench
The stench of decomposition of human flesh (trust me I know) is brutal today near the Fortis site and wafting to Jacklin and Langford Pkwy. I’m sure it’s GFL or the sewage pump station but WOW it’s bad and I was driving by, couldn’t imagine walking, working or living in that area.

Politics Progressive/left-leaning community groups?
With our local and provincial governments swinging to the right, I want to be sure that progressive voters' voices are being heard.
Are there any progressive community activism groups in Langford/the Westshore? I know about ReImagine, but they seem to focus on community events rather than activism.

Politics Thoughts? Aaron Gunn endorses Cindy Scott the Conservative running in Langford-Highlands
Screenshot from a video of Cindy Scott being endorsed by “Gunner” as she calls him because she’s known him since he was a kid. He mentioned common sense a few times and bringing it back to the Leg. Infuriating buzz phrase. I am no fan of the Conservatives so this endorsement personally seals the deal, final nail in that proverbial coffin for me shall we say.
Ravi’s political style makes my stomach churn and curdle.
Cindy is conservative, endorsed by Aaron Gunn and doesn’t seem to have a voice of her own whatsoever. Bland. Predictable “common sense” chit chat.
Christopher seems to have strong vital signs and a heart. Enough experience? Probably not. Yet that sounds delightfully refreshing TBH. I read he did win an award from BC Wildfire Service for Emerging Leader. I think he’s got the oomph and innate ability neither of the other candidates have.
If Eby really thought this election was needed I guess he can deal with the consequences. No more orange. Never blue. Perhaps green should be the balancing act this term. Show those two to smarten up.

Politics The Prophecy has been fulfilled
And I’m here for my flowers. In the future this sub needs to listen to reasonable differing opinions and perspectives without downvoting them. Langford BC is a left wing bubble. All week I was seeing expectations of an NDP government from people who only get their news from Reddit. I wish I could claim I’m some sort of prophet, but truth be told a Conservative Majority was projected for weeks; however, this sub refused to accept reality. Having a political discourse that captures all perspectives is healthy. Can you handle that LangfordBC and VictoriaBC, or are you just going to downvote reasonable people into oblivion?

Politics Time off Work for Voting
elections.bc.caTomorrow Today is the big day!
Please make sure to read the details in the link.
“Right to time off
Voters are entitled to four consecutive hours free from work to vote during advance voting or on Final Voting Day. Voting hours during advance voting are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time and on Final Voting Day are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pacific time.
This does not necessarily mean four hours off work. It means that there must be a four-hour period free from work during voting hours. Time off may be at the beginning or end of an employee’s shift, or unnecessary if normal working hours already provide enough time free from work to vote. For example, if a shift ends at 4 p.m., or does not begin until noon, the employee is not entitled to any time off for voting purposes. Employers can decide when their employees can take time off to vote.
It is an offence if an employer deducts your pay or penalizes you for taking time off to vote. You are entitled to your regular compensation for any hours not worked during this time.
Employers and employees are encouraged to discuss how staff can exercise their right to vote to ensure that the requirements of the Election Actare met.”
Please get out and vote
Remember,
“If your employer does not provide you with the necessary time off for voting, you may contact Elections BC. Elections BC will phone the employer or fax a letter to them outlining their obligations under the Election Act. You must provide the name, address, phone number and/or fax number of the employer.”

Politics Ravi's campaign
Has anyone actually seen Ravi campaigning in the riding or did he just put out his signs and call it a day ? I've been pretty consistent in voting NDP provincially but I'm having a really difficult time voting for Ravi this time. I'm trying to think of anything he's accomplished specifically for the riding and I'm drawing a blank.

Opinion Should an apology be part of the fresh start for Langford?
Personally, I believe the newly (re)elected Mayor Young and his slate of Councillors should be offering an apology to municipal staff, the outgoing Mayor and Council, and Colby, who was re-elected, for the way the past four years have unfolded.
I also believe there needs to be some acknowledgment of the behaviour they chose to support or defend when it came from people they aligned themselves with.
A new term is an opportunity for a fresh start, but that doesn't mean the past should simply be swept under the rug. Disagreements are part of local government, but disrespect, personal attacks, and conduct that damages working relationships should never become the norm.
If the newly elected Mayor and Council genuinely want to move forward and rebuild trust with all of Langford, I believe a sincere apology and a willingness to do things differently would be a good place to start.
What do others think? Should the past four years be acknowledged before everyone moves forward?

Politics Municipal Election season is over. Now it’s time to get to work, Langford!
I really hope the incoming administration doesn’t repeat the mistakes of the past, and that starts with paying closer attention to places like this. If you want to know what’s bothering a community or what actually needs fixing, public forums are priceless for gathering real feedback.
In the spirit of turning over a new leaf, we should also try to be more supportive and less reactive, unless it's genuinely justified. Political discourse has devolved so much since 2016; that era of crass, toxic behavior broke the way we talk to each other. In public service, mutual respect is everything.
On a personal note to Stew: I know I’ve ragged on you in this sub in the past, some of it justified, some of it pure speculation. That time has passed. I bought into a narrative and had a real "never meet your heroes" moment, but I realize there is a lot more to you than that. I want to sincerely apologize for my past remarks. They were rude and unfounded, and I'm truly sorry.
Mayor Young is our new mayor, and cooperation from both sides is going to be key. We all have a chance to build something amazing here, and if we can just get out of our own way and drop the tribalism, the whole city wins. Lanford is poised to be in a great spot economically, but that only happens if the math actually maths. Let’s not botch this.
Finally, thank you all for the immense work you put in during this election season. You did an amazing job. The community we have here is truly special, and I don't want to see it change. If you have any questions for our incoming municipal government, drop them below, let's see if they’ll engage with us!
