We <3 Libraries I LOVE THE FREAKING LIBRARY (but why are all the fun things like a secret lol)
It took until 2025 to become obsessed with the library and I can’t believe it took me so long. I have been taking out books since I was a teenager and I used the computers/printers in high school. But they have so many bonus perks I keep finding out from TikTok?!? Like I discovered Libby earlier this year and then Hoopla today. My kids can watch Mo Willems stories come to life and I am absolutely over the moon right now. Someone said on instagram that you can get passes to the national parks. My library apparently has a seed library too which helps restore native plants to the area
So here’s my question: what other non-advertised awesomeness am I missing out on???

Library Assistance Very overdue library book
So a little bit of backstory, my high school had a reading list made by all the teachers of the top 100 books they thought were important for students to read before graduation. If you read all the books on the list you got your name added to the plaque in the English hallway and a cord for graduation, they tell everyone about freshman year. I was about 3/4 through the list when I joined the Army between junior and senior year, I had been renting books from my public library to complete the list. When I went to basic I still had a book out and asked my brother if he could return it for me, he said he did. I recently moved into a new apartment and while moving all of my books I found the library book buried on one of my shelf. It is important to note I joined the army at 17, I am now 23 and that book has been on my shelf the entire time. So my question is do I try to return the book now, will they even take it? And how expensive of a late fee am I looking at for 6 years past due?

Library Assistance Bettering yourself one library at a time!
I’m looking for the lastest free courses I could take online related to libraries or library information science. Any recommendations.
Also, are there sites that I can checkout out daily for news all things libraries?

Local Library Trying to recover from my week working with my coworkers
It's my coworkers, not the patrons. I'm a sorely outnumbered librarian in a smaller library branch. I do programs and work with people whi no clue what's involved. Even my supervisor has no clue what's involved doing programs. It's tiring, but my programs are well-attended and ourpatrons are delightful. There's nothing to be done. Thanks for reading.

Discussion Survey for people working in a public library
I am currently writing my master’s thesis on the Blind Date with a Book concept/trend.
If you are working or have worked in a public library that has done it before (or is still doing it), I would like to invite you to fill out my anonymous questionnaire below.
It‘s mostly open questions, so will take about 15 minutes, but it will be super helpful for my research. 📚
Thank you so much in advance!!
Edit: tried to fix the link.

Local Library Our students' artwork is now on display at a library in Midtown Manhattan
I want to share something we are really proud of at Mentor A Promise, a NYC nonprofit supporting children and youth experiencing housing instability.
Artwork created by our students is now on display at the Midtown Library in Manhattan!
What makes this special to us isn't just seeing their artwork in a public space. It's knowing that young people who have spent time imagining, experimenting, and creating now have an opportunity to share their perspectives with the wider community.
We often talk about the importance of education, but experiences like this remind us that learning also happens through creativity, self-expression, and opportunities to discover what you're capable of.
And sometimes, simply giving a child the space to create something and have it appreciated can be incredibly meaningful.
We are grateful to the mentors, creative teams, and library staff who helped make this possible.
If you're in Midtown Manhattan, we'd love for you to stop by and see the artwork.
I am also curious: Have you come across any libraries or community spaces in NYC that showcase artwork by local students? We'd love to learn about other initiatives creating opportunities for young artists.

We <3 Libraries Where to leave “Thank You” note for librarian if I don’t know her name?
A post on here of a mom asking how to thank a kind librarian who helped her daughter inspired me to write some thank you notes of my own for some amazing librarians who have helped me at my local libraries. My question is, where can I leave the note if I don’t know the librarian’s names? Maybe just the front desk and explain I don’t know their names, or wait till I see those same librarians again?
Any ideas are welcome!

Library Assistance Am I screwed?
The Philly library has free library cards for PA residents (which I am). But when I tried to apply online I got an email saying my information couldn't be verified and I needed to visit in person. I emailed back letting them know I'm not able to visit in person and asking if there was any alternatives and this was the response.
I tried a few different things to make it work, spelling my street address with blvd and boulevard for example, but nothing worked. I haven't moved, I'm certain all the information is accurate and I've tried multiple times. Is there anything else I can do or am I just screwed? Does anyone know what service they use to verify the information so I can try to figure out what information is incorrect.
I also might be stupid but I'm not exactly sure what the third paragraph is trying to say. I tried leaving the middle name field blank and putting my middle name alongside my first name but that didn't work either.

Creative and Crafty Seed Library repurposed using a card catalog
The public library I went to in Berlin, Connecticut has a Seed Library which uses old-fashioned card catalogs they originally had to store card files. They're using these drawers to store seed packets for vegetables such as eggplant or celery.
Does your library still have old-school card catalog drawers? If so, are there any card files or any other uses?

Care and Repair Mold found on cover of library book :/ Concerned..
Hello! So, a few days ago i checked out a few library books and upon further inspection, i have realized that on the cover of one of the books what i thought was just simple dust buildup/staining of some kind is actually white book mold :/ i have no idea what i should do because i've had this book sitting on my bedroom bookshelf for the past few days (i don't have much space so it's the only place i could put them while i have them) and it's been touching the other books i checked out along with being on the shelf where my own books i have are. i put the book in a bag and separated it from the others, but i know mold is really bad, not to be taken lightly, and i'm actually pretty scared of mold in general, so that's why i'm kind of just looking for some advice and answers. Should i take all of the books back to my library? Are they all contaminated with mold now? Or am i just overreacting and the other books are fine/safe to read and have around until i have to take them back to the library?
Any help/advice/answers at all from someone who knows about mold would be very much appreciated because i'm scrambling right now and not too educated on book mold 😭 thanks!

Library Assistance High School library-book tips
Hi! I’m a librarian working in a High School. I’m in Norway, so the students are 16-19 years. We need more English books, and I’m ready to spend the rest of this years (small) budget. I would love a comment on one or some of these questions:
- What are the most popular books at your High School? It would be fun to know the country as well.
- What does the boys read? I’ve recommended “The long walk” by Stephen King and “The maze runner” by James Dashner to some, and those seem to work. Any suggestions to similar books?
- What books do you recommend to the students that are afraid of book projects or hate to read?
- What are your “must have” books? Except the classics.
- Is there any “Easy reader”- series except Penguin you can recommend for this age group?
- What classics or cult books do you recommend to this age group?
- Anything else?
