Announcement! We are expanding the r/LoomKnitting moderator team. Applications are now open!

Hey r/LoomKnitting,

I've been in contact with Reddit after the main moderator u/Loomahat was suspended from Reddit, to make sure I could recruit additional moderators for our tiny little corner of the internet and was given the ability and approval to do so.

Our subreddit has continued to grow in size, but after the 2023 Reddit Blackout multiple members of the mod team had left and since then the rest of us had also come close to being burnt out, with some active moderators recently becoming inactive or leaving the team. So with all that and with an exciting 2026 on the horizon as new people discover loom knitting, it's time for a new round of moderator recruitment.

The qualifications to become a moderator are very simple:

  • love loom knitting
  • use reddit

The expectations for the new moderators are to be transparent, to be communicative and to be reasonably active. I will always be clear - Real life always comes before Reddit and to just let the rest of the team know if you need a break.

The applications will close on the 31st of March at 22:00 UTC

Link to the application form

If you have any questions or doubts feel free to ask in the comments.

FAQ

  • What timezones are you looking for mods from?
    • We're looking for mods from all timezones
  • Should I apply if I applied in previous rounds or been rejected before?
    • Yes!
  • Do you need to have moderation experience?
    • No, it's not an issue if you don't have moderator experience yet.
  • What are the tasks of a moderator exactly?
    • Obviously the primary task is going through the modqueue and removing comments and posts that go against the subreddit rules. But there are other aspects like configuring automoderator, working on graphics and flairs and so on.
  • Is there any compensation for moderation?
    • Absolutely none. This is a volunteer role

Thank you and keep the great posts and comments coming!

Baby hat #1

I'm not the perfect loom knitter but I'm in a group for women battling infertility and a few have gotten pregnant. I wanted to make hats for the babies who make it earth side. Infertility is so hard. Just need to deal with the stray ends but I feel good about this one

My first sweater

Post image

Hi!

I'm quite new here and new to loom knitting (or knitting at all).

I wanted to share my first loom knitted sweater. I made quite a few mistakes (sleeves, neckline, and I lost patience while joining panels so it's nit as smooth as it could be) but given that it was full improvisation and it's actually the fourth thing I have ever knitted in my life, I'm really proud of myself. :)

There is no other way to learn and develop ilsome kind of intuition than trials and errors. And it's a lot of fun!

OK, since someone decided to be rude, and I had to block them, when you bind off your scarfs knit every single peg while you’re binding off, and it will keep the end of your scarf from being shorter than the other

Finished Object I MADE A SOCK!

Post image
116 Upvotes

Ten years ago, I started trying to learn to hand knit after becoming fascinated by fiber arts. I bought the darkest, most slippery acrylic yarn, and the slipperiest metal needles, and a sub par instruction book in the yarn aisle of a Joann’s (RIP).

Needless to say, it didn’t go well. My patience waned quickly, and a few months later when I visited a cousin, she ended up teaching me to crochet instead. Which, I love, and would consider myself intermediate/advanced at now.

However, one of the things I’ve always wanted to make most is socks. And while they can be crocheted, there was just something about the appearance of knitted socks that I loved.

A week ago, after doing some loom knitting to make some quick hats to donate to folks in my community, I came across this subreddit, and saw that SOCKS could be made on a loom! I found Good Knit Kisses tutorials, got the correct size loom, and MADE A SOCK!

It’s a little tight, and I’d make the ankle longer on the next pair, but they fit my weird little feet, and I’m going to bed tonight with the triumph of finally making a sock in my heart 😂💕

Socks Are my stitches twisted? Am I e wrapping correctly?

Making my first sock and I'm noticing that my stitches seem twisted and the whole sock looks like it is leaning/twisting. Am I doing my e cast wrong or is it just cause it's been tensioned on the loom and this will block out?

It's super noticable in the toe box, is that typical? Am I supposed to e wrap clockwise on short rows or something?

I'm doing my e wrap counter clockwise around the peg. I tried u wrap and flat but the stitches were TIGHT. E wrap seems to be the only way I'm getting enough yarn to make a decent stitch, should I be using thicker yarn or is that typical?

Equipment Question My hats come out too tight.

I am newbie and I am using a 41 peg 10” hat loom. I have size 5 yarn and when I make hats they just fit my 5 years who old who is tiny for her age. Do I need a bigger loom size for hats or am I just pulling too tight. I don’t know what to do to fix it.

Equipment Question Loom Knitting Advice Needed

I really want to get into loom knitting so I can make blankets to donate to charity, but I’m a complete beginner and don’t know what supplies to buy to get started.

I’m hoping to make both baby blankets and twin size blankets but I’m confused about what size loom I would need for each, what type of yarn to use, and how many pegs I should look for.

I’m also not sure if I need different looms for different blanket sizes or if one loom would work for both. If anyone has any recommendations for specific looms and yarn.

I’ve been searching youtube and tiktok for tutorials on what supplies to buy and how to make blankets but all I can seem to find are tutorials for making beanies

Scarf question

Post image
8 Upvotes

I started a scarf for a gift, but I'm not a scarf person myself, and I'm now second guessing this. Is this too wide? I'm not sure folding it in half would be comfortable given that it's double-knit. I'm doing a basic figure-8 that is 35 pegs wide. Should I restart with less pegs (how many), or keep going?

Equipment Question KB flexee bitty vs KB original sock loom?

Post image
7 Upvotes

I’m having trouble finding the measurement of the gauges for the sock loom, and wondering if the KB bitty is about the same size, and worth having in addition to the sock loom?

I love the look of very fine stitches for socks, and am not sure if I’m not achieving that because of my technique, my yarn, or my loom. Currently using a KB original sock loom and Premier fruit yarn in Guava, and following the Good Knit Kisses toe up tutorial.

Is there an app on IPhone for Looming?

I go back-and-forth between YouTube and Google and all this different stuff to get ideas on doing looming. I’ve been doing it for a while, but I would like to get better at it. I do know how to crochet left-handed but I haven’t done it in a long time if anybody can give me any ideas on websites to use or if there is an app, I would really appreciate it 🤗

Pattern Question Loom Knit Ear Flap Headband Pattern?

How can I make this ear flap headband on a loom? Thank you!

I give a tip I use , when I join two skeins of yarn together when I’m running out I put a small amount of fabric glue in the center of the knot and let it dry and cut off the excess side strings , at least it won’t come apart.

New to looms, or Hats, Hats, Hats! :D

I'm new to loom knitting. It's addictive! I have a feeling everyone I know will end up getting a hat at this rate, including my soon-to-arrive fifth grandchild. (He'll be getting the tiny seagreen hat with the teal stripe.)

I still haven't mastered holding the yarn so it doesn't unloop while I'm bringing the bottom loops up over the top loops. If there's an easy way to do this, I don't know it yet. :D
