Career Advice Sometimes I feel like all that matters in the end is money. Am I thinking about my career all wrong?

I'm a final-year B.Com student from a tier-2 university. I've completed my CFP certification, cleared CFA Level 1, and am heading towards Level 2. My 10th score was 78%, 12th was 84%, and my current SGPA is around 7.5–8.

One of my friends did very little academically, scored around 65–70% in school, completed B.Com from a government college, and spent a year at home enjoying life. Eventually, he moved to Africa for a ticket-booking job earning ₹55k per month, with rent and other expenses covered by his employer.

He recently came home with ₹5–6 lakh in savings, is buying home appliances, and has bought an iPhone 18 Pro Max. The question is not about enjoying materialistic items but in a year he may save some freshers salary and 10 years down the line 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↔️.

And here I am, spending years pursuing qualifications like CFA, still uncertain about what I'll earn after Level 2.

Honestly, it makes me question my career choices.

At the end of the day, does anything matter besides money? Does it really matter whether you're a CA, CFA, or an IIM graduate if someone with none of these qualifications is earning, saving, and enjoying life earlier than you?

Money buys comfort, independence, and happiness. Sometimes I feel we're so busy preparing for the future that we forget to live in the present.

Am I thinking about this the wrong way?

Other MBA Exam Prep I built a free mock interviewer for MBA PIs that follows up on your answers. Looking for honest feedback

• Upvotes

I kept seeing friends prep for IIM/ISB interviews with no one to grill them on follow-ups, so I built a tool that reads your résumé, asks a question, and then digs into what you actually said ("what exactly did you do?"), with a short debrief at the end.

mockmba.com

I'd love to know where it feels useful and where it feels off. Happy to answer anything here.

Career Advice Specialized Master’s Abroad vs. MBA in India for a Career in Strategy Consulting

I’m 24, currently working in AI/ML consulting in India, and trying to decide between two paths:
**Option 1:** Pursue a specialized Master’s abroad in 2027, with a budget of ₹50 lakhs.
**Option 2:** Stay in India and pursue an MBA at ISB or a top IIM in 2028.
My goal is to transition into strategy consulting, particularly AI/technology strategy. I also want to experience living abroad and student life while I’m still in my mid-20s.
Will a specialized Master’s abroad realistically help me break into strategy consulting, or would an MBA from a top Indian B-school offer better career outcomes and ROI?
Would love honest advice!

Ask Anything Should I do CFA or not?

Hi everyone, I am a 30 year old female B.Tech engineer graduate from India. Currently I work in marketing field and recently started doing executive MBA alongside my job. I have been finding Finance very interesting through my MBA coursework. I currently earn about 13 LPA INR. I am wondering if I should attempt CFA- I know that I would enjoy studying for it but I also would like to know if there is a really career opportunity for me to breakthrough into finance at this age and at this package I would obviously expect something similar or with a 40 to 50% hike. Do you genuinely think it is possible or should I look for some other career path? I am not too interested in marketing anymore and I am looking to pay to another field.
Edit: mba college tier 2 college, btech- Manipal university.

Admissions Advice Need help with application to SPJIMR

Hey everyone,

I have about 2 years of experience as a software developer at an international consulting firm. I've been looking to switch to the role of a PM as I feel it'll suit my skill set better. I've been preparing for CAT for the past month but I have little hopes on a top score this year with balancing my job, I'm looking to focus more of my energy into CAT 2027.

Meanwhile I was looking into SPJIMR and their IM program seemed to match what I was looking for. I also found I can apply before CAT and there's a profile based application shortlist. Can someone guide me through the process especially what with what can help my profile stand out. Do let me know I've missed anything in my research here. Thank you!

TLDR: I need help with my profile for the profile based application for SPJIMR PGDM(IM Specialisation)

My quals: 9/9/8( I have 9 CGPA but percentage becomes 85), I have moderate extra curriculars ( Few state level certificates but mostly interschool/college level)

Career Advice Is Vedica scholars programme something I should consider?

I have recently found out about the Vedica scholars programme and wanted to get some advice.

I am a graduate currently in a small role but feel like I have a lot to learn before I can progress in my career. I would like something that can help me upskill, boost my confidence and look into better opportunities without having to spend years trying to figure things out.

Would anyone who has studied at Vedica or knows someone who has, be able to tell me what the experience was like? Has it helped you in your career progression? What should someone consider before applying?

Any recommendations for other programmes or learning opportunities in Delhi?

I am not looking for anything that will completely change my career but just looking to make a step up.

Career Advice Need career advice as a person working in marketing , is MBA really worth it?

I have done my BBA and have been working as a Digital Marketing Executive for a startup for a little over an year now. I have gained experience mainly in social media marketing, seo, and email marketing. I feel stuck as I don't see my career prospects getting much better if i try to switch my job. Will doing an MBA change that?

My main motive is getting good placement and better job prospects. I am skeptical if leaving my job for a regular MBA would be worth it, especially because I won't be able to afford the insane amounts required for private colleges without a loan.

And I am not sure if doing a distance or online MBA would actually help me achieve my goal?

Would appreciate advice from marketers who have done an MBA regular/distance. Thanks in advance!!
