Help [ The Big List of MQ Links ]

MQ links live here, as the MQ website can be an overwhelming maze. Its purpose is to provide you an easy, and more direct place to find links to common topics that may be relevant to you during your time at MQ.

This list will change over time, and I'll endeavour to keep it updated when time allows.

If there is a topic that you believe is missing, or if a link is outdated, please DM me. It may take me some time to update it, and I thank you for your patience.

If you need to find something urgently and it is not on this list, the internet is your friend. Search "[keyword] mq" and it is usually your first result. For example, search "transcript mq" if you want more information about transcripts.

The list focuses on topics that a student may encounter in their academic life cycle, such as forms, applications and policies. It will be separate from other posts already found in this subreddit that focus on social events, campus life, and student groups.

Social Macquarie University Weekly Societies & Meetups Advertising Post

Welcome to the 'Macquarie University Weekly Societies & Meetups Advertising Post' (or the M.U.W.S.M.A.P for short)
___

Here students and societies alike can arrange or outline their intended events, gatherings and meetups for the week to come!

We politely ask that any societies (or people on behalf of societies) limit themselves to one advertising comment per week as to not bury posts by individuals (editing existing comments are allowed). And that individuals advertising their own event (be them just meeting up on campus or something more elaborate), make sure to keep their suggested meetups appropriate and vaguely in-keeping with Uni guidelines (IE: no organising drug deals which I have already had to previously remove).

I hope people and societies alike are able to make the most of these posts, and I wish you all luck in meeting your fellow students!

{Note: This is purely an advertising post, r/MacUni and its modteam cannot assure the validity or outcome of any posts/comments made on our subreddit, it is up to the individual to use their best judgement to discern the expectations of any advertised events/encounters.}

Rant/Vent I am running out of time

This is my last semester. After this there is nothing for me in the world.

I wasted my last four years just doing nothing of value and now i have no time before the inevitable. Im nearly 22 and i will have to get a full time job that i will probably hate and then i will be stuck like a prisoner for the rest of my life.

I should’ve done more.

I should’ve made more friends.

I should’ve been better.

After university my life is basically over. I’m not joking I genuinely have nothing after this.

I don’t know what to do. I think i need help.

Degree Question arts1000 session 3

Hi, I will be taking arts1000 in summer as it is a core unit for my degree.

I enrolled, but i couldnt do class registration? Is this bc the unit is online?

Also, is it true that it is only 6 weeks long in session 3 and that it has only prerecorded lectures and online tutorials via zoom?

Thanks from now!!

Misc. Post STEM SURVEY

Thumbnail forms.gle
0 Upvotes

Working or studying in STEM? I'm running a short anonymous survey on how different minds capture ideas, keep track of complex work, and take in information.
It's for anyone in STEM (software, data, engineering, maths, science, design), neurodivergent or not. Neurotypical answers matter just as much, because they're the baseline everything gets compared against.
Fully anonymous: no names, no emails, no sign-in
About 10 minutes, and every question is skippable
18+ only
I'll share what I find once the responses are in. If you know someone in STEM who'd have thoughts on this, please pass it on.

Help Registering for Classes BPsych

I’m an international student and I already got my CoE and everything but not my visa yet. The visa isn’t guaranteed because my country is a tier 3 country right now 😭 but regardless my friend from Monash already registered for her classes. That being said, when does enrollment into classes start? and if so should I enroll even though my Visa situation is still up in the air? Would appreciate any help, I do not know how to do anything. 🙏🏼

General Question Living south of the river?

Never been to Sydney before, I’m an international student starting graduate research at Macquarie in January. I’d really like to live somewhere with a busy city centre vibe, with nice night life in walking distance, so I was thinking I’d look for share houses south of the river. Would it be really inconvenient to commute from the south of the river to Macquarie uni every day, and is it fairly normal for Macquarie students to live down there?

General Question Academic standing

Hi everyone, I may end up on monitored enrolment next semester. If this is the case is there any other punishments besides what’s on the website? I would be academic caution in sem 2(?) and I would have a secondary teaching placement so would that affect the placement?

General Question How are my chances of getting into early entry law?

Hiii, I just entered Year 12 and wanted to apply for an early entry into law through both SRS and leaders and early achievers. I go to a top 100 school (idk if that makes a difference lmao) and here are my subjects and rankings by the end of year 11.
Economics- 4/86

English Standard- 6/135

Math Advanced- 58/144 (bombed a test and got sent down 30 ranks :/)

Business Studies- 34/115

Biology- 27/108

Chemistry- 27/99.

I was thinking about doing my preferences in the order of:

1) Bachelor of Law/Economics (double degree)

2) Bachelor of Law/Commerce (double degree)

3) Bachelor of Law/Arts (double degree)

4) Bachelor of Commerce

5) Bachelor of Economics

Idk how my chances are looking so if anyone has any idea please lemme know <3

Help Revoking Unconditional Offers?

Is it possible for universities to revoke early entry offers that are unconditional because of a low atar?

I got admission into law through leaders and achievers (already accepted) and ik my atar is going to be way lower than the threshold for general entry. If they see that my atar is low, would they revoke my offer?

Quick question: will the iLearn materials (slides, videos, etc.) of past sessions be gone ultimately? If yes, when?

I'm a Year 1, Session 2 student, and am very glad to see my Year 1, Session 1 units in iLearn. I really want to refer back to some of them as I go along.

Degree Question what's everyone's experience with law/arts at macqu?

hihi. i got an offer which i'm super excited about, i'm currently doing my first year at UWS and applied to macquarie, mainly because of the transport. it is so much easier for me to come here.

i'm just a bit worried about the arts cuts though. at UWS, the arts degree is all prerequesite units for first year, so i haven't chosen a major ie i'm not locked into a particular major, and i can start fresh at macquarie.

i was thinking english or philosophy to study at macquarie, but i'm not sure if they even offer it there. i'm going to look into current offered majors.

i guess if it's really bad i can just drop the arts degree, i'm mainly doing it as an extra with law

what i'm curious about is

1. is it ALL on one campus (north ryde)? at UWS, i had the biggest jumpscare when i realised i had to do a class in either penrith or bankstown and my law units at parramatta, and exams could be at either penrith or parramatta. i didn't even realise that you would be forced to go to different campuses

2. are there arts tutorials offered on zoom? (online). at UWS there was very limited class options, and all in person no option to attend classes online. not sure if they do this here.

this question is more just curiosity, but 3. how long and frequent are both law/arts classes at macquarie on a weekly basis? at UWS, it's 3h tutorials once a week which is kind of annoying and long as. lectures are recordings about 1-2h long, no in person.

all these questions are mainly just me wondering, and i don't think anything will majorly impact my decision to definetly move.

if anyone wants to just share their overall experiences doing law or arts that would be very much appreciated as well.

Help Returning to uni in 2027 after taking a year off

Hey y’all, hope everyone’s doing well.

I’ve got a question about returning to uni after taking some time off. Unfortunately, I ended up taking basically a year off because of work and some personal reasons. I do regret taking that long away, but it is what it is and I’m really keen to get back into studying.

I’m doing a Bachelor of IT, which is a 3-year course. Technically, this year would’ve been my second year, but since I pretty much didn’t study at all this year, I’m assuming that wouldn’t really count.

I’m planning on coming back for a fresh start in Session 1 of 2027, depending on how I’m going medically, as I unfortunately broke my leg a couple of weeks ago.

What I’m mainly confused about is what happens with my course when I come back. Would I just continue from where I left off and enrol in the subjects I still need to complete? Would I get put back into first year? Would I need to reapply for the Bachelor of IT completely, or is there any chance the uni wouldn’t let me return after being away for that long?

I’ve honestly been missing uni and I’m looking forward to getting back into it, so I’d really appreciate any advice from anyone who’s been in a similar situation or knows how it works.

Thanks!
