Discussion Book or movie? Spoiler

Hello I'm new here and this really interests me.

Someone probably already asked this already but I did not see one (honestly I didn't really search one cause I wanted to do my own...)

When I read the comments I see a lot of people saying the books are better but I want to understand why, because I am a movie supporter. I'm gonna tell you my reasons but I really want to hear your's.

First of all, I like the Storyline more. In the books they are just doing what they are told (in the first two books). WICKED tells them to go through the scorch, okay come on let's do this. In the movies they are really fighting against WCKD and that already in the Scorch Trials. And don't let me start with the Death Cure. I mean why would you just leave Newt in the Berk? What the fuck? And in the Movies Teresas Betrayal is a real betrayal. In the books she just tries to help him but in the movie it is a very complicated, multifaceted decision. And in the books the relationship between her and Thomas is written in such a stupid way. We all agree on that don't we? Making out with Brenda on the same day Teresa died? That's not the Thomas we know.

Then we have the Characters. Unpopular opinion I know, but I love them in the movie better. In the books they are so rough with each other and this relationship between the characters is far better portrayed in the movie. Also I see the Newtmas ship in the movie far more.

Newt's letter. You can't tell me you didn't cry your eyes out when Thomas read that letter. Yeah in the book it is very emotional too, with Newt wanting Tommy to kill him an he read the letter to late and now Newt hates him. But it is also what I mentioned earlier. It doesn't emphasise the relationship between Thomas and Newt like in the movie.

And last but not least, we have Dashners style of writing. For me, it seems like he writes in an Info-Dump Structure. They don't know anything, and then comes someone, explains two pages long what is happening and all the tension is poof. I understand that a complicated book like this needs explanation, but you could solve this in another way.

I still recommend doing both. I like the movies better, but the books give more backgraund information, that don't come trough that much in the movie. I accept every opinion, so I hope you also accept mine.

I'm really curious about your answers!

Question/Doubt maze runner hot take Newt's immunity and what not Spoiler

Hi, I'm coming back to this thought I had and wondered if Dashner overlooked this part. The thing about Newt's immune status, first of all how come Sonya is immune and Newt isn't? Did WICKED do smth with gene alteration?

Second, in the movies there was a scene in The Scorch Trials, Brenda reveals to Thomas that WICKED took her brother from her because he was immune. Brenda said "They didn't want me. They wanted him though." But why not? Brenda could've been one of the non immune subjects.

i might edit this later tbh i got work to do 😭

Discussion Death Cure Broke me

I originally watched the movies first before reading the books, and just finished the trilogy and I am forever impacted by the series. The first two were absolutely incredible, and the twists and turns it took were great. The Scorch Trials mentally broke me because of the amount of anxiety I felt sitting on the edge of my seat praying to God Teresa wasn’t evil just to find out she wasn’t and Thomas no longer felt anything for her. Then there’s The Death Cure….

The Death Cure mentally broke me for a completely different reason. Half the book was just “Random screwing around” and hating on Teresa for no god damn reason until they finally actually started doing stuff. I would’ve been fine with this if it weren’t for the fact that Dashner not only gave the most unsatisfactory and rushed ending ever, but he also just pissed me the F off. Teresa was handled horribly in The Death Cure, written off with the worst death I’ve ever seen for a main character and that wasn’t a worthy death at. Thomas and Teresa didn’t reconcile, they were meant to be together from the very beginning and instead Dashner said “F my fans I’m gonna some fanfiction type shi”. He literally wrote off the main heroine/love interest and replaced her with a side character. Don’t get me wrong I actually really liked Brenda in the second book, but what was he doing? I finished the third book and it made me so pissed off and sad that I went to go watch The Scorch Trials and Death Cure movie so that I could see Thomas and Teresa actually reconcile and actually have a satisfactory ending.

Im so emotionally distraught from this that I’m genuinely aboutta just download a pdf for The Scorch Trials and Death Cure books and rewrite them so that I can give myself a good ending. I may only be 15, but I am actually passionate about writing and have written some good stuff. Obviously never on this scale, BUT F IT, if it makes me sleep better at night pretending that my rewritten version of Thomas and Teresa’s ending allowed them to actually be together and be at least decently well written then I’m gonna do it. I’m gonna fix my distraught by doing what James couldn’t. Let me know what yall think, is this a terrible idea?

Question/Doubt Looking for my old 2010s edits (username: dashner.collins.ruth / cranky.tris)

Hi everyone! I just joined the community ☺️
I’m feeling super nostalgic and I'm trying to find any trace or archive of my old Instagram edit account from the mid-2010s (The Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runner). My original username was dashner.collins.ruth and I later changed it to cranky.tris.

Sadly, I lost all my files and the account is gone. So I was wondering if anyone by any chance remembers these usernames, has old fandom folders/drives, or knows if my edits were ever posted on pinterest, tumblr, or fb back then. Any leads would be amazing.
Thank you so much! ☺️

Discussion Did the Bad Guys win?

So, the Runners are supposed to be the good once, right?

But they destroy a whole city and are responsible for the deaths of thousands.

After they have the cure they have no way to reproduce it or distribute it around the world.

Basically they doomed Humanity to save themself.

Do, I get that right?

Discussion Janson lifeboat speech in the end of death cure (deeper analysis)

"You know what this place is Thomas? It's a lifeboat, and the whole world might be sinking but, it doesn't mean that we have to go down with it"

the last city was a lifeboat of human civilization, culture, history, medicine, human progress, and technology, the world is the ship and the lifeboat was necessary to call rescue and eventually save the whole ship and every people in it (finding a cure to save the world)

Discussion WCKD can be seen as good philosophically

WCKD was actually good it was a necessity not a cruelty it was the only high chance way and time was running out it was an absolute necessity. Their other good deed is protecting 107,000 innocent people into a functioning 2.5km diameter city and gave them a normal life, a piece of how life used to looked like they managed to build that in the middle of nowhere in an infected and scorched world. The people lived a relatively normal life their kids go to school, they go to work, they go home, and meet their families and who gave this? the exact organization that torture kids. WCKD also didn't let the outside rebels and people in because, if WCKD opened the city gate and let the people outside in, the city would be doomed in weeks, because not only that the space and resources inside the city was finite, undetected flare virus could spread inside and dooming the ciy.

It was a necessity and it was never out of malice. Even though WCKD's method was incredibly horrific (first of all, it was a necessity) there's a stance horrific means to a heroic good their goal was UNDENIABLY GOOD it ain't power or hunger it's replication and distribution of the cure to the mass to save humanity from extinction.

Thomas is selfish in his own way. By refusing to cooperate with WCKD for a cure, he and his friends essentially doomed the remaining uninfected population to a slow agonizing death. They didn't care about anyone but themselves. They didn't care if not cooperating with WCKD meant millions of deaths, as long as they can live a comfortable life in a beautiful beach.

Isolating the immunes to restart civilization on ONE TINY ISLAND was definitely a dumb. move not only the millions to billions of non immune people left still suffering in the world will now will 100% die without the cure of that enzyme from the immunes and thousands of years of technology, progress, culture, and history are lost forever, now new gen kids from those immunes doesn't have immunity, and them getting flu or some minor Diseases will be deadly and could become extinct fully, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THEY RESTARTED FROM STONE AGE AND ONLY IN ONE TINY ISLAND, ALL THE NEW GEN "REBUILDER OF CIVILIZATION" ON ONE TINY ISLAND IS VERY VULNERABLE TO EXTINCTION THROUGH MINOR DISEASES

WCKD didn't fail because their logic and science was wrong, they were right! Under extreme stress, those immunes produced a unique chemical for the cure, they only failed because Thomas and right arm kept sabotaging them, if they didn't do that, they just need to catch Thomas, and the world is restored! Moreover Thomas should've cooperated from the start and another moreover he knew he was the cure before WCKD he knew it in the end of scorch trials seeing how Brenda healed from the enzyme in his blood he should've surrendered from there.

while WCKD killed many immune tennagers without results, how could they have known which kid had the right enzyme for a cure? that's the problem, their science was right, just they didn't know which kid had the best enzyme, and they could have never know that, i mean sure they were always hoping that one specific immune's enzyme was strong enough for a cure but their intention was good and they chose the method with the highest probability of expected success outcome

they were justified under Expected Utilitarianism the enzyme wasn't strong enough was a bad moral luck that they can't predict who was the cure and who was just slowing it down.

Discussion I really don’t like the premise of this series anymore.

At first I was like oh yeah this is tuff. I remember watching this movie the first time and going oh this is amazing I can’t wait to see what happens next. And they just go to like a zombie city? There’s fire everywhere i guess?…and then at the end of everything it was all for no reason. They didn’t find a cure they just chilled on an island. Then it’s like why did wicked do all of this and lie to everyone. And then in the sequel people come to the island where everyone is fwy them. Ike what 🤣dude yk what woulda been way better? Is if the adults on earth sent these audio logs and ancient stuff to another PLANET and sent their kids there too after the earth was destroyed. Then they put everyone through the trials because they didn’t have time to teach them stuff so they could work together and live on another planet in paradise but it happened to be filled with grievers and virus remnants of humanity that came through the ships. But at the end it woulda made sense they need to be strong and smart to protect their new beautiful planet untouched by humanity somewhere in a far off galaxy they deserved to have a better future. Those kids got a whole bunch of nothing for NOTHING!

Discussion te queiro Thomas

¡Hola! Me gustaba mucho antes y todavía me gusta ahora.

Collection I've completed maze runner book series. I did not want Newt to die.

I read maze runner, the core trilogy with kill code and fever code, in its chronological order, so it was a very crazy read, but I just cannot except Newt's death. Just...no.

Why? That boy had the most tragic end of them all. Not immune, not reunited with his sister, was nothing but good to everyone, and had to beg to be killed. Even when he died I kept hoping that probably WICKED would save him like they saved Thomas. That maybe he was just unconscious. Died without remembering his real name. Tried to kill himself in the Glade. It's just too much.

Also, I'm not satisfied with Aris's character development. Felt like the author sort of just forgot him. And I wanted to see something happen to Ava Paige. I wanted Thomas to meet her. I wanted to see the aftermath.

And Teresa's death felt... Rushed? Such an important character, by no means the best, but her death was underplayed? That's how it seems to me, atleast.

Question/Doubt Is it WICKED or WCKD? Spoiler

(Not sure if this is a spoiler, but I'll mark it as one just in case)

I have read all the books and watched all three movies, and I know what WICKED is and what it stands for. I also know that in the books they're reffered to as WICKED, while in the movies they're reffered to as WCKD (which doesn't make sense).

But recently, I've seen a lot of people only use WCKD. Even while discussing the books, they'll write WCKD.

Did I miss something? Does the whole fandom refer to them as WCKD? Or have I just been reading some very specific discussions where the people only use the movie version?

This is just a random question I had when I relised wo many people where using the movie term, so it isn't really any serious doubt or anything. Just curious.

And😭😭then😭😭she😭😭died😭😭

Teresa was a very confusing character for me. I wanted to hate her but I couldn’t because I understood her. Understood why she did what she did. Understood that in her own way she was trying.
It makes her death all the more painful for me. The movies omitted so much and I disliked her in the movies. Never hated, though, because I still got her motivations. But all these little snippets, her telepathic conversations with Thomas, their relationship, how she was in danger of being SAed by the gladers, how she lost her mother. Oh my Teresa:( I’m so sorry so many people hate you.

Fanfiction I wrote an alternative ending to The Fever Code, focusing on Thomas and Teresa's relationship!

https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14594616/1/The-Night-Before (FanFiction)

Hey everyone! I've just finished writing my first ever fanfic, The Night Before, and thought I'd share it here.

It's an approximately 17,000-word, completed alternative ending to The Fever Code, picking up after Chapter 61 and replacing Chapters 62 and 63.

I wrote it because I always wished we'd gotten to see more of Thomas and Teresa's relationship before they entered the Maze. The story explores their final night together, developing their relationship further while trying to stay as close to the original book storyline as possible.

It's also intended to give a different perspective on Teresa's motivations in The Scorch Trials and add more emotional weight to the ending of The Death Cure.

Spoiler warning: Best read after Chapter 61 of The Fever Code, with the original epilogue read afterwards.

I'd genuinely love to hear what other Maze Runner fans think! Positive or constructive feedback would be really appreciated, especially since this is my first time writing a story.

General Movies and Book Spoilers I can't be the only one

Okay, ever since I finished the Maze Runner first book I grew a great love for Grievers. I have no idea why. I rooted for their return in every single other book. I was very excited for in The Death Cure Book when the Grievers did return. Just for them to be killed nearly instantly. But at least they returned. I wanna know if I was the only one wanting the Grievers to return?
