Notts Women beat West Bromwich Albion Women 1:0 away in the First Round of the Women's FA Cup this Sunday afternoon. The only goal was scored from a penalty midway through the 2nd half by Shoniqua "Smurf" Barnes.

It's a great win against a tier three side who are pushing for promotion from the National League Premier Division.

Match Preview & Discussion: Notts v Stockport County.

League 1:  The Hatters (H).

Venue:  Meadow Lane.

Date:  Saturday 24th October 2026

Kick off:  15:00 pm.

Another tough match awaits Notts at Meadow Lane when they entertain top of the table Stockport County. Notts will be bouyed by their excellent performance against Sheffield Wednesday who they totally outplayed for most of the match, coming away with a win & a first clean sheet of the season.

Stockport have a good recent record against Notts with two wins from the two matches they played in 2023 & 2024. Stockport have won their last 4 games on the bounce Their record this season in League 1 are 7 wins 1 draw & 3 defeats from the 11 matches played so far.. They have scored 23 goals & conceded 11& earned 22 points.

Stockport have some very good players at this level that will pose a threat to the Notts backline. Forwards Kyle Wootton, Jack Diamond & Mikael Mandron & Midfielders Oliver Norwood, Lewis Bate & Ben Osborn can unlock most defences. Notts will have to be at their absolute best to keep them at bay.

After their excellent display on Saturday, Head Coach Martin Paterson could be much closer to knowing who his best eleven is. If all the players are fit after their exertions on Tuesday I expect that Martin will name an unchanged first eleven with a similar bench.

Notts demonstrated on Tuesday that they are a match for any team in League 1 if they are on their game & start on the front foot from the word go. Stockport should bring a good following with them, so it should be a good atmosphere with 12 to 13 Thousand in the ground.

If Notts can play like they did against Wednesday I think that Notts can get another win which will be very welcome. At this stage I think even a draw would be a good result against a form team. Hopefully, Kyle Wootton won't have a happy return to his former club.

Match Preview & Discussion: Notts v Sheffield Wednesday.

League 1:  The Owls (H).

Venue:  Meadow Lane.

Date:  Tuesday 20th October 2026

Kick off:  07:45 pm.

Notts welcome Sheffield Wednesday to Meadow Lane hoping to avoid a 5th League defeat in a row on Tuesday evening. The last time Notts suffered 5 consecutive League defeats was in the 2023/24 season under Stuart Maynard.

Sheffield Wednesday have shown some good early form this season. In their 9 matches so far they have won 5, drawn 3, & lost just 1 of those matches. They have 18 points & are in 6th place in League 1.

Interestingly, Wednesday have scored 20 goals & conceded 8 in those 9 matches. Wednesday are going to be a tough nut to crack for a Notts side that is struggling to score goals at this time.

Notts will have to keep a tight reign on the Wednesday attacking force of Jamal Lowe who has 7 goals so far, as well as Davis Keillor-Dunn & Louie Barry who have 3 apiece.

I expect that Martin Paterson will possibly look to pick the side that played in the 2nd half against Wycombe & with more luck could have easily scored after they created some good opportunities.

Wednesday have already shown with their early form that they could possibly be one of the teams challenging for promotion this season. I think Notts will be happy to come out of this fixture with a draw.

Match Preview & Discussion: Wycombe v Notts.

League 1:  The Chairboys (A).

Venue:  Adams Park .

Date:  Saturday 17th October 2026

Kick off:  15:00 pm.

Notts should be going to Wycombe with lots of confidence after the performance against Forest A on Tuesday when they scored 5 goals, with 5 different scorers.

Wycombe have shown some mixed League form this season. In their 9 matches so far they have won 2, drawn 4, & lost 3 of those matches. They have 10 points & are in 15th place in League 1.

Interestingly, Wycombe have conceded 20 goals & scored 14 in those 9 matches. So there is an opportunity for Notts against the Wycombe defence.

Notts will be bouyed that Lee Ndlovu returned to the first team after injury and scored a goal against Forest A. Lee will give Martin Paterson more options upfront. Competition for places is a good thing.

Notts will have to be weary of the Wycombe attack . Players like Jaden Wareham and Fred Onyedinma who have 5 goals between them this season.

I think that Notts can get a positive result at Wycombe but I think they need to get back to being aggressive & hard working all over the pitch. They certainly cannot afford losing concentration during the match.

Rod McDonald back in the centre of defence. Sanders returns and is on the bench.

Looks like Cooper & Palmer in central midfield.

Tsaroulla & Finneran on the bench too. COYP.

Match Preview & Discussion: Notts v Oxford United.

League 1:  The U's (H).

Venue:  Meadow Lane .

Date:  Saturday 10th October 2026

Kick off:  12:30 pm.

League One action resumes for Notts after the international break when they entertain Oxford United at Meadow Lane. In their last match before the break Notts had a welcome win against Grimsby Town in the Football League Trophy. Notts will be hoping to get back to back wins on Saturday.

At the moment Oxford are in 10th place in League. One with 11points. They have won 3, drawn 2 & lost 1 of their 6 matches so far. Oxford United's style of play focuses on an attacking, high-intensity approach utilizing a 4-2-3-1 or high-pressing formation, combined with wide play and transition-based attacking.

Notts will be hoping that previously injured Max Sanders will return after completing 60 minutes of a practice match last week. His return would give Martin Paterson more options in midfield. All his players that were on international duty should return too.

Notts currently stand in 20th place just above the relegation places so a win against Oxford would be very welcome. A decent crowd is expected so Notts should have plenty of support behind them.

I'm going to go for a narrow Notts win on Saturday. I think that the players will have done lots of good work on the training ground during this extended break which will have put them in good stead going forward. My forecast will be a 2:1 win for Notts.

Quoted from the Notts website

"Max Sanders made his return from injury in a practice match at Stoke City this afternoon.

The summer signing played half an hour as he took another positive step in his recovery from a calf injury sustained in pre-season.

The sides played out two 60-minute matches at the Potters’ training ground, ensuring plenty of minutes for all available players – including a full 90 for Ishe Samuels-Smith and an hour for Daniel Kanu following his return from international duty with Sierra Leone.

After a goalless draw in the first match, our hosts shaded the second with a 1-0 victory.

We return to competitive action on Saturday 10 October with a Sky Bet League One clash with Oxford United at Meadow Lane (12.30pm).

First match XI: Belshaw, Ness, McDonald, Bedeau, Samuels-Smith, Gibbons, Sanders (Grant 30’), Palmer, Roberts, Cooper; Kanu

Second match XI: Griffiths; Szczesny, Baker, Samuels-Smith (Stevens), Kouhyar, Longelo, Evans, Muir, Grant (Bryant), Mustapha, Smyth"
