What is one thing life taught you the hard way?

I’ve always believed that some of life’s greatest lessons come from the moments we wish we never had to experience.

I’ve experienced both success and failure. I’ve built businesses, lost things I worked hard for, and had to start over more than once.

But looking back, I wouldn’t trade the lessons I’ve learned.

One thing life has taught me is that success doesn’t always make you wiser, but failure often forces you to understand yourself better.

I’ve also learned that everyone we meet carries a story we know nothing about. Sometimes the person smiling next to you is fighting a battle you couldn’t imagine.

That’s why I believe in treating people with kindness, listening without judging, and never thinking we’re better than anyone else.

I’m not sharing this because I have life figured out.
Far from it. I’m still learning every single day.

I’m genuinely curious:

What’s one thing life taught you the hard way that you wish you had understood earlier?

It could be about business, relationships, family, friendships, or simply life itself.

I’d love to hear your experiences, and I’m always happy to connect with people who enjoy meaningful conversations.

Sometimes your experience might be the lesson someone else needs today. 🙏🏻

Tourism Muscat midnight layover, What can I do

Hi everyone! I have a 14+ hour layover in Muscat this Friday. My flight lands at 12:10 AM, and my connecting flight to Munich is at 2:40 PM.

My checked baggage is going straight through, so I’ll only have my hand luggage. I’m Muslim and don’t really need to sleep, so I was wondering: what can I do in Muscat during the night/early morning?

Any recommendations for places to visit, late-night food, mosques, sunrise spots, or a good way to spend the layover would be appreciated!

Discussion Feeling lonely in Muscat and struggling to find a job. Any advice?

Hi everyone!
I moved to Muscat, Oman, last year. Initially, things were going well because my husband had a few friends here, and I felt happy and comfortable. But things have changed, and now I barely have anyone to talk to or spend time with.
Whenever my husband goes to work, I feel really lonely. I’m trying to keep myself busy and looking for a job so I can build my own social circle and career here. Unfortunately, I’ve been applying for jobs in Oman but haven’t received any calls so far.
For context, I’m from the digital marketing industry and have around 7 years of experience in SEO, Local SEO, Google Business Profile management, and related areas.
I would really appreciate any advice on finding SEO or digital marketing opportunities in Muscat. I’d also love to know how other people who moved to Oman have made friends, built connections, and adjusted to life here.
If you know of any job openings, networking groups, or communities where I could connect with people, please let me know.

Discussion Looking to connect with fellow expats living in Oman 🇴🇲

Hi everyone!

I'm an expatriate living in Oman and would love to connect with other expats and learn more about life here. I'm also looking for a supportive community with a growth mindset—people who enjoy learning, improving themselves, and encouraging one another.

I'd appreciate your advice on a few things:

- What are the best ways to meet new people and make friends in Oman?

- Are there any useful communities, groups, or activities for expats?

- What tips would you give someone who wants to improve their lifestyle, learn new skills, and make the most of their time in Oman?

I'd love to hear your experiences and suggestions. Looking forward to being part of this community!

Thanks!

Discussion What’s going on with talabat?

I placed an order for talabat mart today around 4:20 in the afternoon. Around 6:15 I still hadn’t received it and after contacting customer support said the driver was on the way and it would be delivered by 6:41. After 7:15 I still hadn’t received so it so I contacted customer support again. They said “okay the driver is on the way to pick it up” and then literally within the minute the whole order was canceled. When I asked why they canceled it they said due to no courier available. Like I just needed some groceries to make dinner 😭😭

I’ve just genuinely never had such a bad experience with them, has anyone else experienced anything similar?

Best restaurants and cafes in Salalah

Hi all,
Heading to Salalah for the first time on Monday night. I'm staying in the Salalah Gardens area.

Just wondering what your top recommendations are? I'm happy to travel a bit for a good dinner on Tuesday. On Wednesday I want to stay close to the Mall area as I'll be tired after a long day on a tour. On Thursday I will leave and need to be at the airport by late evening so I would like to be near the hotel area or near the airport. Happy to travel a little to kill time and a good meal before leaving. The only food I don't like is seafood. I'd like to try an Omani dish. I will be solo traveling so I would like the restaurants to be a bit more international, if that's possible? I guess that would mean more hotel style restaurants. If you know a really good Omani dish that can be delivered to my hotel then that would be good too!

Any good cafes for lunch and a coffee?

Your recommendations are much appreciated. Shukran!

Culture and Heritage Arabic for all

Post image
98 Upvotes

I've always wondered why the government never invested in low-cost country-wide effort to teach the expat population the Arabic language. Would have helped greatly with the inclusion of expats into the local culture, removing the language barrier, less misunderstandings and definitely less racism with a small fees. I've always noticed how when you talk to an Omani in Arabic, their face lightens up. And more jobs for the Omani population too. If not written or reading arabic, atleast speaking arabic could be implemented easily. What do you guys think?

Laws and Regulations Construction nightmare

Hello , so recently moved to a villa in Bowshar , I ran away from my old nice apartment cause there was construction work , a very loud one , I am currently expecting a baby , probably in one week , , before we moved to the new villa we made sure that there was no construction to be done , we asked neighbors and they told us that they recently drilled the road for nama pipes and they closed it and every thing is okey
To my surprise yesterday the Nama people and tractors came to drill the whole road again , I mean deep drilling into concrete and sement cause the old contractor made a mistake !!! And they have to redo every thing . Can you imagine ! My due date is in one week and the noise is unbearable, I had a mental breakdown! How am I suppose to spend my postpartum peacefully with all the noise !! Mama people said it will take up to two months but that’s bullshit cause they are so slow and they are stalling for some reason , they start the drilling from 6 am !! The tractor is right infront of my door the barriers the workers it is a chaos , and the owner of the house demand a 3 months notice before moving out !! Isn’t this a major force ! The greedy land owner won’t even decrease the rent even with the horrible conditions we are facing now !!
Can I complain to the municipality about the noise pollution?!

What is the best service provider (carriers) for mobile phones? And what’s the difference between ooredoo vs OMANTEL vs friendi vs Renna mobile vs Vodafone vs redbull mobile vs other company?

Hi there. I currently own ooredoo and I’m considering a second sim/number. The reasons are because I want something with a good internet deal or unlimited package and also I want a number for my Gmail account (it’s not accepting my current number for some reason despite I never heavily used it or never ever misused it) for verification and registration and all those stuff.

So I want to know what’s the difference between omantel vs ooredoo vs Renna vs friendi vs Vodafone vs redbull mobile in terms of everything including price, value, connection, network coverage, security and privacy, internet strength, limitations and those blocking stuff, charge and rates etc….

Also what are some carriers that still supports 2g (for those dumb phones)
