Hi all. I live in Peterborough and I've spent the last few months building a side project. I'm posting it here first because you're the people who'll actually use it.
Since this year, UK petrol stations have had to report their prices to a government scheme (Fuel Finder) within 30 minutes of a change. The data is public, but it isn't easy to look at. So I built a site around it:
https://fuel-alert.co.uk
What it does:
- Type any postcode and see every station nearby on a map, cheapest first, for petrol, diesel, super unleaded or premium diesel
- Shows whether prices around you are heading up or down
- Save your usual place and get an email on Sundays with the cheapest stations near it
That part is free and stays free. You don't need an account to search.
There's also a paid plan (£1.49/month, first 30 days free, no card needed to start). It tells you whether to fill up now or wait, and shows how often it's been right. It also emails you when a station near you hits your target price or cuts 2p or more, and you can message LOW on WhatsApp to get the cheapest stations near you. One fill-up at 3p a litre cheaper covers the month. You can ignore all of that and just use the free search.
You can also try the WhatsApp part without signing up. Find "@ukfuelalert" on WhatsApp, or message 07460 698108, and send LOW. It'll ask petrol or diesel, then where you are, and reply with the cheapest stations nearby. You get two free tries.
It's just me, no company behind it. I'd really like to hear what's broken, what's confusing, and what you'd want it to do. Email me at hello@fuel-alert.co.uk. I read and answer everything. Happy to answer questions in the comments too.
