Hello, I have seen many folks coming to Poland from the EU and being completely lost on what kind of legal procedures they have to do in order to start their residence in Poland. Be that you come here to study, work or live with your spouse there are several things I hope this guide will be able to cover.
!PLEASE NOTE!
This guide is meant only for citizens of the European Union and citizens of countries that are members of the European Economic Area. Some of the parts of this guide will be similar for non-EU foreigners but some will not. In general, the info posted here is only fully up to date if you are a citizen of the EU/EEA
!PLEASE NOTE!
0. Introduction and general info
Poland is divided into 16 voivodeships which are further subdivided into powiats, which means something like 'county' and these are further made out of municipalities - pol. gmina, or cities - pol. miasto. Large cities however are both powiat and miasto so in case of Warsaw, Wrocław, Kraków etc. city office (pol. urząd miasta) will also perform duties of powiat office (pol. starostwo powiatowe). In case of Warsaw - urząd dzielnicy meaning district office will serve as city office.
All of the below information covers only EU/EEA citizens. If you are non-EU, majority of the below information will not be correct for your case.
I strongly recommend reading all of the parts linked below apart from car and pets stuff, if those do not concern your case.
I. Registering your residence and making your stay in Poland legal.
II. Obtaining health insurance
III. Using healthcare
IV. Taxes
V. Digital log-in and services
VI. Cars and licenses
VII. Banks and mobile phones
VIII. What to do when I leave Poland?
IX. Pets
If you have any additional questions or remarks, please do not hesitate to comment, I will be happy to help for as long as I'm going to visit this platform and expand this post. I hope you all have a great day and life in general. Thanks for reading, stay safe.

Recurring periods of drought are causing losses worth billions of złoty to the Polish economy every year and are affecting business across the agrifood supply chain, a new report has found.
The Polish Economic Institute (PIE), a state-backed economic think tank, said in a report published last week that droughts in Poland lead to lower crop yields which, on average, reduce the country’s GDP by 0.2%.
Based on last year’s economy, that figure amounts to a loss of 7.5 billion złoty (€1.7 billion), the institute said.

- Barbara Nowak, the former Małopolska superintendent of education and the head of the Law and Justice party in Krakow, for years did not agree to the disclosure of her financial declarations. TVP Info has established that during her time in the position she received 12 awards from the Małopolska Voivode. The disclosed data show how much she earned and what additional benefits she received, RMF24 reports.
- Barbara Nowak headed the Małopolska Board of Education from 14 March 2016 to 15 December 2023. According to TVP Info, the current Małopolska Superintendent of Education, Gabriela Olszowska, during this period Nowak received a total of PLN 1,256,973.79 gross salary. In addition to her salary, Barbara Nowak received awards granted by the Małopolska Voivode. According to the information provided to TVP Info by Gabriela Olszowska, during her tenure the former curator received a total of 12 awards worth PLN 64.4 thousand. - we read on the radio station's website.
Come on. The fight to defend Christian civilization, the attack on leftism, the destruction of teachers, the support of PiS, the failure to comply with court judgments - all this is apparently very profitable (it is not even about the amount of these salaries, after all, civil servants should earn sensibly money). In addition, Barbara Nowak used a company car and received an apartment from the city, because she and her husband could not afford it, which is already the height of dishonesty.

Autumn is my favorite season! I have lived in Wrocław, Lower Silesia for more than 8 years. I love taking trains from Wrocław and going hiking in Sudetes. Photography is more of a hobby but I share it often on social media to showcase the most beautiful, less hyped parts of Poland. Not many people know that Książ is Poland's 3rd largest castle located just 1.5 away by train ride away from Wrocław. Happy to connect with nature enthusiasts here. If you have a nice trail recommendation, feel free to drop in comments below. I work as a local tour guide and destination promoter in Poland. 🙌

Hello, I'm thinking to gift my husband a survival/wilderness tour or trip in Poland for his birthday. Any recommendations on the operator or can we just do it ourselves? How to go about it, do we need some permit etc?
A bit of background, he's Polish and we're in our early 30s. The tour can be in Polish or preferably English -but if there's no option I'm good with having only Polish speaking guide. We've done several wilderness trips mostly in Asia with guide, staying in the jungle for few days to see the wild animals in their habitat.
Is there anyone who has experience such trip in Poland?
Looking forward to hear your experience and recommendations!
Dziękuję!!

I'm Italian and I'm making a game where your whole life happens on a virtual phone, from your first phone at 14 until you're old. Right now I'm writing the mum character, and I want her to sound like where you grew up.
Mine texts me "hai mangiato......" (did you eat?) every single day, always with way too many dots. What does yours send? Is there a word or phrase only a Polish mum would use, that I as an Italian would never understand?
The best messages go into the game. (sorry for my English)

After more than two years, I finally made it back to Poland.
The first thing I had to do after we moved into our vacation rental was head to Żabka and buy that tube of condensed milk.
Since there were already some discussions about this last time with my wife and the kids, I want to figure it out this time: How do you guys actually eat it? Personally, I prefer to take a spoon and eat it straight.

Hello, I'm Turkish and I'm looking to study in Poland. My first idea was to take foundation year or prepatory programmes to learn Polish and then study the programme in Polish, however I haven't found many universities that offer such programmes. (Most are intensive courses designed for people who already have some knowledge of Polish or know a slavic language).
Is it worth studying a programme in English and taking Polish language courses during the programme? I believe most universities offer Polish language classes for their students.
I plan to immigrate to Poland and work there as well, so my goal is to learn Polish. I might be able to get enough Polish knowledge if I start now but I don't think I will learn enough by May when I'll have to apply.
Thank you in advance.

Hello, I am resigning after completing 15 months of a 22-month training program. My contract explicitly states my loyalty period ends exactly on graduation day, meaning I am completely free to leave without penalty once my studies conclude. However, another contradictory boilerplate clause claims prorated deductions only apply to months worked after graduation, leading my employer to demand a 100% repayment of 16,500 PLN. Since Article 103⁵ of the Kodeks Pracy dictates repayment must be proportional to time worked during the training, has anyone successfully challenged this kind of nonsensical clause without going to Sąd Pracy?

Greetings Poland.
I live in Warmia (North East) and occasionaly - although rarely, there may be an art exhibition of some kind. Say a small exhibition in an Orangery, or in a castle but it's difficult to find artwork of significance.
Where are the best places to find exhbitions of the best Polish artists?
Do I need to travel to the major cities, or am I missing out on smaller, less renowned galleries that may not have a strong online presence.
