Announcement Proton VPN is now available on Amazon's new Vega OS

Hey everyone,

Amazon has migrated away from the old Android-based Fire OS to a new in-house operating system called Vega OS. We wanted to make sure Proton VPN was there for you from day one, so starting now, Proton VPN is available to download directly from the Vega OS app store.

Please also note that if you're on a current Fire device, nothing changes, your Proton VPN app will keep working exactly as it does today.

However, if you end up buying one of the newer devices, it will come with Vega OS rather than Fire OS, so you will have to redownload the Proton VPN app from the new Vega OS app store.

Your connection runs under the same no-logs policy and Swiss privacy protections that apply everywhere else on Proton VPN.

As always, if you have any feedback, questions, or comments about this latest release, let us know in the replies.

Stay safe,
Proton Team

Announcement Proton VPN now has a server in China

Hey everyone,

We've added a new server location in China, aimed at people from China who are living or visiting overseas.

If you've moved abroad, you've likely hit the region locks that cut you off from the platforms you used back home.

This server is built for exactly that: connect back into China from wherever you are and access your local streaming services.

Currently working:

  • Bilibili
  • Tencent Video
  • Youku
  • Mango TV

To be clear

This is for connecting into China from abroad. It's an inbound use case for people overseas who want to reach Chinese content and services.

It is not built for the reverse, and although our Stealth Protocol and Alternative Routing features are highly effective at circumventing government censorship, we cannot guarantee that Proton VPN will always work reliably inside mainland China.

Your connection still runs under the same no-logs policy and Swiss privacy protections that apply across all of Proton VPN.

This is an early step and we'll be expanding platform support over time. If there's a service you'd like to see working, let us know.

Stay safe,
Proton Team

Help! Wireguard/OpenVPN configs stalling out/dying causing Qbittorrent to drop and stop seeding/downloading after ~1hr

Super confused on what's happening here/what to do. I run an unraid server at home, use the binhex-qbittorrentvpn docker container. For months it ran fine without ever really dropping. Now, as of the last couple days, it's doing a thing where everything will be fine for about 1hr, then seeding/downloading will stop entirely.

I'm using a manual WireGuard configuration file generated with NAT-PMP (Port Forwarding) enabled, connected to a P2P-designated server node in my region. It seems like the VPN tunnel is stable, but the incoming forward forwarding lease drops or fails to renew after about an hour.

When my docker container attempts to query the local NAT-PMP gateway for a lease renewal, the request fails or times out (with errors resembling readnatpmpresponseorretry() failed or gateway unresponsiveness), which looks like it results in a port allocation failure.

I don't get how to fix this. I've tried different p2p servers near me, tried ones in other cities in my general region. I even tried switching to OpenVPN and it still did the same thing of working for about an hour and then dying. I'm at a loss. Anyone have any ideas?

Help! Issues with IPTV & Proton VPN for FireTV

Recently subscribed to Proton (switched from NordVPN). I had no issues with NordVPN across any devices. The cost was just too much.

I noticed that upon switching to Proton VPN and using my IPTV service via TIVIMate I can no longer stream items that I had no issues previously with Nord VPN on the same TV and same service. I am using the ProtonVPN app on firetv

More interest... is that if I use proton vpn on my phone or laptop and use the same IPTV service, there are no issues. It seems exclusive to the the firetv setup/app.

Any ideas what I could be doing wrong here or what the issue may be?

Help! Port keeps changing?

I'm using ProtonVPN in conjunction with qBittorrent. Used to be I could stay connected to the same server for days, with the same port forwarded. Lately I've noticed that either I'm getting repeatedly disconnected, or at the very least the forwarded port keeps changing.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Help! WireGuard on Raspberry Pi drops connection when downloading torrents (Seeding works fine)

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing a frustrating issue with ProtonVPN via WireGuard on my Raspberry Pi. I use it primarily for torrenting (qBittorrent) and connect exclusively to P2P-friendly servers.

The Problem: If I'm only seeding, the connection is rock solid and can run for days without any issues. However, the moment I start downloading a torrent, the VPN connection eventually freezes/drops. I lose all connectivity, and the only way to restore it is to bring the interface down and up (wg-quick down / wg-quick up), sometimes having to switch to a different server entirely.

My Setup & What I've Tried:

  • Hardware: Raspberry Pi. I previously used PrivateVPN on this exact same Pi for months without a single drop, so I'm fairly confident it's not a hardware limitation (e.g., it's not an nf_conntrack table overflow or a RAM issue).
  • Client: Native WireGuard client on Linux (wg-quick).
  • MTU: Lowered MTU to 1360 (and even tried 1280) in the .conf file to prevent packet fragmentation.
  • IPv6: Removed ::/0 from AllowedIPs to prevent any routing black holes.
  • NetShield: Completely disabled (NetShield = 0).
  • Port Forwarding: Enabled NAT-PMP in the Proton profile and downloaded the corresponding configuration (though I haven't configured a local tool like natpmpc to request the port yet).
  • Client Limits: Lowered global and per-torrent connections in qBittorrent to avoid potentially triggering Proton's Anti-DDoS / UDP flood protection.

Despite all these tweaks, active downloading still kills the WireGuard connection. Has anyone else experienced this with ProtonVPN on a headless Linux setup? Is there any specific WireGuard parameter, keepalive setting, or qBittorrent behavior I might be missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Help! Issues with Proton VPN and Windows 11

Hello!

Yesterday I made the switch to Proton VPN. I installed it on every device I have and it worked pretty good. Solid VPN, good speeds and good UI.

HOWEVER, I JUST noticed something concerning. I am on Windows 11 on my main PC. And I noticed that the VPN client just... had stopped? It was not in my taskbar and on restart of the client it started a "new" session ticking up from "you have been connected for X seconds".

This is a major concern for me, even though I have my bittorrent client bound to the VPN client as well as killswitch turned on in the Proton VPN client.

What is going on? I don't like that one bit.

Edit: my bittorrent client did not seem to disconnect from the VPN though. It kept on running which indicates that the VPN was actually on, just the taskbar icon and client seems to have... restarted? I am so confused.

Discussion OVPN frustrations

Has anyone else been having issues with openVPN clients constantly dropping connection?

I’ve been using proton for years and lately the servers that used to be up for months at a time are suddenly dropping in days and requires a new IP to get the connection back up.

I get that sometimes IPs change and get cycled no biggie just a bit annoying that it’s getting more and more frequent.

On top of that though, the UI to grab the configs is so clunky: no collapsible sections so I have to scroll through WireGuard to find what I’m looking for. Then I have to go scroll to find my country and finally start to download each server for the city I want because I have to begin an extremely tedious trial and error with all IPs to see which one sticks and lets me get connected.

Support pretends there is no issue and refuses to acknowledge that perhaps having hostnames like windscribe might help mitigate the issue since a city/server I want to connect can change as many times as they wanna change it without me having to touch my configs.

Am I the only one incredibly frustrated by this to the point of considering suspending my membership to the premium plan? I don’t use the other features much and can make adjustments, VPN was the huge one for me. Deeply disappointed

Help! Linux Proton VPN problem

So this has me puzzled. If I have the advanced killswitch on, the VPN will infinitely say "connecting" on the first connection, and I have to cancel connection then try again for it to work. Afterwards it works perfectly. This is of course problematic as I want the VPN to autostart and connect. It doesn't happen without the killswitch, and happens regardless of when and where the first connection goes. Is this a known issue? Is there a fix? I'm on CachyOS (Arch based) Linux, using the GUI app. I can provide any logs if needed.

They are heavily restricted internet wise especially with the Social Media Restrictions, can’t even fucking look at gamer server and paleontology servers any more smh on Reddit.

It’s not fair for anyone based in an EU country or the Uk to immediately just get sent to another one with same restriction…

Help! Does Proton VPN still work in Russia in October 2026? (Android)

Hi everyone!

I'm wondering if Proton VPN still works in Russia in October 2026.

I'm using a Xiaomi Redmi Note 12S running Android 15 with HyperOS 2. I've tried using Proton VPN, but it gets stuck on "Connecting" and never establishes a connection.

Here's what I've tried so far:

- Using Wi-Fi.

- Reinstalling Proton VPN.

- Testing different connection settings.

- Checking that no other VPN is running.

Unfortunately, nothing has worked so far.

I'd like to hear from people who are currently using Proton VPN in Russia. Does it still work for you? Which protocol are you using? Does Stealth work, or are there any other settings worth trying?

I'm especially interested in hearing from Android users.

Thanks in advance!

Feature Request A few tweaks to the MacOS menu bar would be nice

I am quite happy with Proton VPN.

But I would be even happier if this menu can solve a things without opening the actual app:

- Favorites (i.e. the 3 most recent selected countries)

- Kill switch on/off

There are probably a few more, but I think this would make the VPN even better to use.

Help! Help Proton VPN on browser

Hello !

I need your help about Proton VPN on my phone.

My issue is when I set the VPN on Denmark for instance (I live in another country in EU), my search results on my browser are not from Denmark, they are still from my country.

Note that on Proton VPN I excluded my weather forecast apps, Google Maps, Waze, because I use them daily (and I'm looking for alternatives lol).

Thanks !

Help! Work Shut my Access thinking I was in Ukraine - ProtonVPN issue

I occasionally will set my ProtonVPN to the Netherlands on my personal phone. I must of used my Teams/Outlook app while connected to the Netherlands VPN.

The next day my corporate security had removed all my access saying I was attempting to login from Kyiv Ukraine.

I have never set my ProtonVPN location to Ukraine.

Has this ever happened to anyone before?

Discussion Does it work well for you lately?

I have used it for many years and most of the time it worked perfectly. In the last few days it's absolutely terrible and randomly drops all traffic for like 5-20 seconds and then comes back again, I tried switching to other servers, some of them work perfectly for like 10 minutes and then just drop dead and stop responding completely. I'm using VPN Plus servers only.

PS: I'm torrenting a lot and I torrent through forwarded ports, and the ability to do so is the main reason I pay for ProtonVPN

Feature Request Backup and Import/Export Website Split Tunneling Rules in Proton VPN Extension

It would be really helpful if Proton VPN added an option to back up and restore website split tunneling rules in the browser extension. I have several websites configured to bypass the VPN, and some require specific subdomain settings to work properly. Having to manually add everything again after reinstalling the extension, switching browsers, or moving to another computer can be frustrating. Even a simple option to export the rules to a JSON file and import them later would be great. Ideally, it would also preserve whether subdomains are included for each website.
