Sorry folks. No more "We need them now more than ever" Posts.
Since this is becoming a regular occurrence on r/RATM, we will delete any posts begging for the band to reunite and play shows.
Look... we get it. These are divisive times but the band has shown no movement to get back together. Zack's lyrics from 25+ years ago remain relevant today, but he and his bandmates are only the messengers. You must be the change. Get out there. Advocate for people's rights and freedoms. Whatever you do, please stay safe.
Thanks.

Will Zack de la Rocha ever do music again?
We all know that Zack is doing a documentary work right now, and he previously worked on some mysterious solo album with Trent Reznor, DJ Shadow and etc that never saw the light of the day
Will he ever do any music again? I mean, Rage broke in 2000.... TWENTY SIX YEARS AGO, and Zack didnt do any serious music since then.... sad to think about that

Zack de la Rocha
Are there any more connections between Bad Religion and Rage Against The Machine? I came across a CD copy of their album Battle Of Los Angeles pretty cheap but I have not heard it in like...26 years. I had a copy back then.
I am not a big hard rock guy, was always just more into punk. I checked it out again and, yeah, it's aged very well. The recording is so great, etc. That droning guitar 2:30-2:36 in Calm Like A Bomb massages my soul.
While I was kinda reading up on their influences I saw Zack de la Rocha was very influenced by How Could Hell Be Any Worse, and that album led to his political awakening, and I guess part of the reason why we have RATM.
The bands have played a benefit show together. Bad Religion, Chuck D, Beastie Boys, RATM.
I was wondering if you guys know any more stories about BR's influence on Zack and/or any other connections between RATM and the LA punk scene.
I think I'll go back and pick up this CD as I rebuild my collection from youth.
Found this quote.
• ZACK DE LA ROCHA (One Day as a Lion/Rage Against the Machine): “I remember hearing BR’s How Could Hell Be Any Worse? for the first time in 1985, I was fifteen. The first thing I remember is pulling the insert from the sleeve of the record and seeing those drawings from Dante’s Inferno, and that red wash over the blurry shot of Los Angeles, and I admit I was scared. A little terrified even. I had no idea what to expect.
“When the needle hit the record I have to say it was a defining moment for me. The music was darker than most punk records I had heard. It was almost gothic, and there was a genuine sadness to the melodies. Listening to the words I remember being overwhelmed. It wasn’t some revelation that god didn’t exist … it was more like an injection of the sad truth. That our condition is the product of the mess of our own making … and at fifteen that was as scary as the inferno drawings.
“I wasn’t reading Sartre or Neitzsche, and I’m convinced now that if I was it wouldn’t have had the same effect. Throughout the record there was very little relief from the sad truths except one: ‘there are two things you can do … one is to turn and fight … the other’s to go headlong into the night.’ Truly one of the greatest L.A. bands.”

Song and Album Ranking
After relistening got the discography 3 times, this is where I'd put every song and album on a tier list. There is definitely some picks that will piss off a lot of people, but this is just my opinion, not some objective list. Song wise I think I was very generous with some of these placements. Album wise it goes:
- Self Titled:
Just a lightning in a bottle album for me. Aside from Settle for Nothing, it's a straight banger throughout, and it has a perfect tract list, that has the songs placed in the perfect order. By far their best album cover too. What a classic.
- Renegades:
Hot take, but this album is way more consistent than Evil and Battle. It just flows really well and has way less annoying sounds from Tom. Most of the time it's tolerable, but it really sucks on other albums, mainly Battle and Evil. I love the take on the covers they did, making it one of the best cover albums of all time. The variety really helps too, half hip hop and half rock, was such a good decision. It played with the strengths of the other three records to make a solid listen.
- Evil Empire:
Hard choice between this and Renegades, but honestly it's either a got very high highs, and very low lows, not really any in between. Like there's Bulls on Parade, which stands alongside the self titled work, but then there's Down Rodeo, which is just migraine inducing. There was repetition on the first album, but it was way more repetitive here. Songs like Vietnow and Tire me could be way better without the constantly repeating lyrics. I like the hip hop nature, but it wasn't the main reason I became a Rage fan. I appreciate it a lot more now, what with my favorites on Renegades being mainly hip hop, but I became a fan through the hard rock/heavy metal riffs and Zacks voice when he screams and whenever he uses his higher octaves. A great but flawed record.
- Battle of LA:
I just found that I tend to skip so much of Battle due to sounds from Tom's guitar that are more nails on chalkboard than the main riff of Year of tha Boomerang. There is some good shit here, like Born of a Broken Man and Voice of the Voiceless especially, but aside from a couple other songs, I tend to just find that most of the album just kinda sucks. There's potential in some songs like Maria and Sleep Now in the Fire, but even those I'm hesitant to listen to very often. I'm just not a fan of the way some of the instruments sound on this record. Like the drums on some songs just sound way too spacey, making it feel like it was played in a warehouse. It feels soulless and disconnected, probably due to all the infighting at this point. This also has the worst album cover of the four albums. Just not for me.
Let me know what you think.

The lyrics that hit me hardest back in 92.
"If we don't the action now, we settle for nothing later. We settle for nothing now, and we'll settle for nothing later."

Quick rage cover (hope it's OK to post)
I've loved rage since a friend introduced me to them at school in the 90s.
I stumbled across a couple of drumless tracks and had a bit of a jam. Thought I'd share incase anyone fancied a gander.

Question Best Zack history one liner lyrics?
What are some of the best Zack one liner lyrics about history where they have you going and looking up what it’s about and its historical significance? Personally that whole first verse of “Year of the Boomerang” got me like damn even though I knew a little bit about what it was about I wanted to know more. “So I grip tha cannon like Fanon a pass tha shells to my classmates”.

Question Do you consider Zach de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine a rapper, an MC, or a singer?
Been a huge fan of RATM since the very beginning. Don’t really need to categorize him because he’s a great frontman either way. Just wondering what others thought.

Question Discussion #1: Bombtrack - Rage Against The Machine (1992)
This will be a new series where I try to reach out to those about RATM'S official songs, or demos shown in the 20th Anniversary release! The main purpose will be to discuss our feelings of each of their tracks, or "Bombtracks" I like to call it!
This is the first track off their first studio album, and off the 20th Anniversary release! Their first hit, but I wouldn't necessarily say worldwide hit like the second track, but essentially kicks off their music career of standardized MC rapping, with actual mix of hard rock into that scene, with heavy bass & guitar into that exact mix! Tracks with lyrics protesting/calling out against Police Violence (Killing In The Name), Government Corruption (Testify), and the message to rise up against that systemic power (Not mainly known but Wind Below is a very good hint of this).
I really do love the heavy bass settlements towards the track, and especially the very end of the track with the last "burn" lyric put abroad into there. The combination of that heaviness along with MC rapping is really what made me hyped up when listening to RATM. Evil Empire has been a great inspiration of this to me!
What do you all think of "Bombtrack" from Rage Against The Machine?

Question So, I've been listening to "Guerrilla Radio" wrong, and I'm confused.
So, I've been a huge fan of RATM for years since I found them. I was just listening to "Guerrilla Radio" on Spotify, and I had the tab open with the lyrics playing. One line caught my eye that I had misheard: "all you pendejos know the trial was vile."
I thought to myself, "Huh, I had always heard it as 'all you pet devils know the trial was vile.'" So, I googled it on a whim, and apparently, people commonly mishear it as "pen devils," which I thought was funny. But then I looked at the lyrics on Genius, and it quite clearly says "pen devils," whereas on Spotify it says "pendejos."
So now I'm confused. Is it intentionally different on different tours, or is it simply a misheard lyric that Genius or Spotify put down?

Tom Morello's new album is awesome
I listen to it daily and repeatedly. His best work since Audioslave for me.
Exactly how great were the RATMs shows?
In the sense of people who've gone and what y'all experienced there that makes em so great. I'm a newer fan that started listening around 2018 in college but never was into going to shows or concerts at all til 2023 so sucks to hear the chance will most likely never be there

Are bots trying to convince us RATM sold out?
I'm a casual fan of RATM who doesn't know all the ins and outs. But when I listen to RATM through YouTube or see some RATM related post on social media there´s always someone in the comments going "look at them now, sell-outs, they are a very different band".
I have never seen anything about any band members leaving their ideals? Zach seems as politically active he always have been and Tom's new music seems to be politically oriented as well. Have the other two softened up or is it just right wingers trying to spread disinformation?
