[OC] Before & After I am basically an art restorer now lol
This sub was suggested to me so I'm sharing my pics with you all.
I thrift at least weekly to find MCM/vintage ceramics to use as cachepots because I have an embarrassingly massive plant collection and I am too poor to pay retail prices (seriously who can pay $25+ for a plant pot???). In my Midwest area, women loooooved ceramics (edit: 50+ years ago, but now those women have passed away and their children have donated their collections) and thrift stores here are full of MCM and vintage ceramics planters and cachepots of all themes and colorways for like $2.99 each.
I saw this kind of clumsily painted and questionably glittered pot at goodwill this morning, and something in my mind told me it was awesome underneath (TL;DR: IT WAS!!!!!)
I had isopropanol and acetone handy (edit: at home! Not at goodwill!) but I was hoping I could get the paint off without chemicals and tried the least destructive method first: an hour long soak in hot soapy water. It loosened it up and I was able to rub it all off with a toothbrush and a small wire brush. Looked like (edit: someone with terrible taste had applied) a coat of cheap blue acrylic paint and then a coat of cheap black acrylic and then finished it off with glitter. LOL I DEMAND TO KNOW WHO COMMISSIONED THIS!
I was not expecting it to look like this!!!! I'm not very familiar with jardiniére pots. I saw similar orange/white/gold jardiniére pots on Etsy but not this exact one.
I replanted a philo in it; don't worry fellow plant people...it's planted in a liner pot inside so it can be removed for watering.
While I LOOOOOVE this pot, a friend I showed pics to this morning said it was STUNNING so I'll be gifting it to her for her new house.
