Hey everyone!
I'm trying to make some fake blood for a shoot where we'll probably need at least a liter or two. Doesn't matter if it stains clothes or skin, doesn't need to be food-safe/ingested.
I tried the basic corn syrup recipes I've found online (corn syrup + chocolate syrup/powder for opacity + red dye), but I'm struggling with getting the right mix, it comes out very transparent. Corn syrup isn't very common where I live so it makes the process of trying different ratios a bit more difficult.
On a hunch I tried with white sugar cane syrup (much more common where I live), and I immediately got a much more opaque fake blood without even using chocolate syrup. Just sugar cane and red dye. It was surprising since without any dye it looked more transparent than corn syrup. Unfortunately the mix didn't stay very liquid, after an hour or so the flow slowed considerably so that recipe isn't quite there yet.
Anyone got experience making fake blood based on white sugar cane syrup that could share some tips? Or other alternatives to corn syrup?

Hello! This year, I’m going as Michael Myers for Halloween. I’ve done him before in the past and I’ve always worn a black spandex mask to give myself the blackest eyes… the devils eyes…
But this year, I wanna change it up a bit. I want to see and have my eyes be partially seen through the mask. But I wanna add his “dead eye” as seen in the photo. I’ve tried it a while ago to no avail. Any idea on how I can create the droopy eyelid effect? Thank you!

Hello, I am a complete noob at sfx, but id love to try and recreate this look (one of the easier ones faces) for halloween. I just saw the movie and I feel like this can be a nice quick DIY costume but like I said I dont know how to make fake scars and stuff. Any recommendations for a beginner. Thank you!

I'm making a Darth Maul costume for Halloween and could use some advice from anyone experienced with bald caps and prosthetics.
I've bought a Kryolan Glatzan bald cap and I'm considering making the horns from lightweight EVA foam.
My main concern is finding an adhesive that will securely bond EVA foam to Glatzan without damaging the cap.
I've already purchased Kryolan Mastix Spirit Gum for attaching the bald cap to my skin, but I'm unsure whether it would be suitable for attaching the horns themselves.
I've also considered Pros-Aide, although I haven't been able to confirm whether it works reliably with this particular combination of materials.
Has anyone successfully attached EVA foam prosthetics to a Glatzan bald cap? Would you suggest another prosthetic / adhesive system?
Many thanks for anyone who can help.

This is my first time making a latex mask. I’ve successfully made a Hydrocal plaster mold and pulled the clay from the inside. My question now is do I have to wait for the mold to cure even further before I cast latex, and how long could that be? I waited about an hour before opening the mold. It’s room temperature now but still a little moist. thanks for your tips in advance!

I’ve seen haunted houses use full or half face foam or silicone prosthetics, but I’ve been told that these last only a handful of uses, like, less than 10 times. Is there anything I can do to make these at least useable for one haunt season (15+ times)? Certain materials I can use that last longer, and glue that won’t ruin the material? I make my own sculptures and molds, so it won’t be a huge deal if I have to re-cast each year, but I don’t want to re-cast and paint prosthetics more than once a season.

Does anyone here use a makeup airbrush for their makeup? I'm wanting to do sfx and horror style makeup and want to try with face pants and airbrushing (especially since the haunted house I work at uses). Does anyone have a good rec for an airbrush kit? I wanted something easy/simple

It’s my first time using liquid latex and heavier makeup in general, not a huge makeup user but wanted to get into the spirit for Halloween. Going for a more eerie/unsettling but still seductive (as sirens do lol) vibe!

My main concerns with this is 1. How would I make it look like I have no nose? And 2. Since the scar goes around the face rather than over the eye how could I see in this?
To make my nose less obvious I’d have to build up the rest of the face but how? Also since the scars don’t go across the eyes but rather around the face how would I maintain visibility?
I’m a beginner so I’d love advice from anyone who knows about special effects makeup and what this cosplayer may have done, Thank you!!!

My son wants to be super original for Halloween and has decided that his passion for rubix cubes must come into his Halloween costume. I’ve sourced some small keychain versions of them but he wants one sticking out of his head like it’s perforated his skin and it’s stuck in there. Different I know.
How would I get this to stay? Specific sticky stuff I can make a small square stick to his head? 😭😂
Please help, because this is the only thing he wants to do and I need to source products!
Many many thanks!

I just got done watching clay face for the second time in theaters, and I finally got some pictures of my favorite prosthetic that he wears in the whole movie. It’s such a beautiful piece, but we barely get to see it at all, which is such a bummer :[
Thought I would share it here

Hi guys I am working on doing a looking where I make it look like there is an object impaled in my eye, and I was wondering if anybody had a video tutorial that covers something similar to that? I have a moderate amount of sfx makeup experience so I know all the materials I am pretty sure I could do it, but was wondering if there was a video out there that covered this just to make sure I am doing everything correctly? Thanks!
(to clarify I don't mean my actual eyeball, more like a closed eye, sorry if thats vague 😭)
