Salinas ballot drop-off night this Saturday and my mother-in-law is making champurrado

We’re getting together outside the Monterey County Elections Office this Saturday, October 24, from 6–10 p.m. for Salinas Shows Up.
The idea is simple: bring your completed ballot, drop it in the official drop box yourself, and hang out with some neighbors. It’s nonpartisan, with no campaigning. Whoever you’re voting for, you’re welcome.
My mother-in-law is making champurrado, so that’s my contribution covered. Bring your family or a friend who’s been putting off dropping off their ballot. If you already voted, come hang out anyway. You don’t need to bring anything.
1441 Schilling Place, Salinas, outside the Elections Office.
If you’re part of a car club, nonprofit, or just know people who might want to come, please pass this along.

Salinas released a new Measure H FAQ. It’s worth reading before you vote.

There’s been a lot of conflicting information about Measure H, especially around rental assistance and the rental registry. The City’s new FAQ answers several of those questions directly.
A few things stood out:
Measure H repeals four rental ordinances. It doesn’t create replacement protections. That would require separate Council action. Page 4.
It doesn’t provide new rent or deposit assistance funding. Already approved rental assistance funding remains in place even if H doesn’t pass. Page 4.
It doesn’t require new homes to be built. Page 4.
Ordinary rental registration does not request tenant names, phone numbers, emails, Social Security numbers, or immigration status. A lease isn’t required for ordinary registration, although there are exceptions, including petitions. Page 1.
Passing H doesn’t require existing registry records to be deleted. Page 4.
The City says it is unaware of a study proving these ordinances caused rental homes to leave the market, slowed construction, or raised rents. That’s different from saying those effects have been established locally. Page 5.

I’m Andrew Sandoval, Salinas City Councilmember for District 5. I’ve been asking the City to clarify these issues because residents should be able to check campaign claims against an official source.
You don’t have to take my word for any of this. Here’s the document:
Read the City of Salinas FAQ
I encourage you to Vote No on Measure H.

Firehouse Recreation Center- Zumba classes

Hello! I was curious if anyone knew if they are still having Zumba classes at the rec center on East Alisal? The Salinas city website says it’s happening M, W & F at 7 pm but the building looks like it’s getting some repairs? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi! So two years ago I got my 30 day emergency permit because I wanted to substitute. However I didn’t do much with it. I want to apply as a substitute teacher. Currently a para for the district. Does anyone have any suggestions on who to contact? My permit obviously expired so do I have to apply for it again?

Electrician work

Hello I'm looking for any electrical work in Salinas or any cities nearby (Marina, seaside, monterey, watsonville, Santa Cruz, gilroy)

I have my ET card and am currently working at a site but it's too far from home so I'm trying to find a job closer to avoid spending hundreds on gas. Any direction to a job would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance 🙏

Podcast Episode with District 3 City Council Candidate Brent Bagley

Brent Bagpey was just on The Unprepared Men Podcast where he talks about

“…the future of Salinas, what inspired him to enter politics, and why he believes everyday people deserve a stronger voice in their community.

From rising housing costs and renter protections to potholes, local taxes, struggling small businesses, and the challenges of raising a family, we get into the issues affecting Salinas residents. Brent shares his journey from working at Safeway as a teenager to managing hundreds of employees, becoming a father, and launching a grassroots political campaign.

But it’s not all politics. We also talk about fatherhood, family, personal growth, finding time for what matters, and why getting involved in your community doesn’t have to wait until retirement.” - Podcast Episode Description

See you TONIGHT, Salinas! Join me from 6–10 p.m. outside the Monterey County Elections Office at 1441 Schilling Place.

We’ve got giant Connect Four, Jenga-style blocks, and champurrado and conchas while supplies last. Come hang out, bring your family, and enjoy some community time. If you can bring a folding table, that would be a big help!

You can also bring your ballot and place it yourself in the official drop box. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re dropping off a ballot or just stopping by. Food and activities are available to everyone, regardless of whether you vote.

This is a nonpartisan gathering. No campaigning allowed, and please keep the sidewalk and access to the ballot box clear.

Let’s show up, Salinas!

Best pressure washing / roof washing company in Salinas or Monterey County?

Looking for recommendations for a good pressure washing and roof washing company in Salinas, CA / Monterey County.

Mainly need the roof cleaned, but I may also have them do the house exterior, driveway, gutters, and windows while they’re there.

Has anyone used a local pressure washing company in Salinas, Monterey, Carmel, or nearby that they’d recommend? Looking for someone insured who does soft washing for roofs instead of blasting everything with high pressure.

Would appreciate any local recommendations. Thanks!

How can you support a man that talks down to hard working people. Jose Guerra verbally attacked a hard working man doing his landscaping job, without knowing how the man works. Jose Guerra is jot for the people. If he reacts this way how will he react if he gets elected.

Moving to Salinas - Recommended Apartment/Housing Complexes?

Hi All!

I (27F) will be moving to Salinas at the end of January 2027 and am struggling to find recommendations for safe, pet-friendly (I have a cat) apartments. My budget is between $1900-$2200 for rent without utilities/internet. I would prefer to live alone so a 1bd, 1br is perfectly fine with me if its within budget. I have read 93901 and 93908 are nicer area codes but I am not sure if that is true.

Does anyone have any recommendations of complexes to check out that they have had good experiences in? I will be visiting in November and would like to make a list of places to check out while I am there before I sign a lease. I only plan to live in the area for 1-2 years for work.

Thank you in advance!!

If you’re voting NO ON H, don’t vote for Donohue either

Just a reminder that he’s a closet Yes on H voter, and his donors are yes on H donors.

This is your chance to prove that campaign money can’t buy Salinas.

Searchable interactive map of Monterey-Salinas Transit (and more)

https://sfbapt.com/map

Public transit in Salinas is quite isolated from the transit network in the SF bay area so we have just Monterey-Salinas Transit for local trips, but there are lots of options after going north into Santa Cruz and San Jose. The routes that connect to the other agencies include:

Quick tips:

  • tap a stop or route to see details and highlight the stop/route
  • tap a highlighted stop or route to un-highlight it
  • collapse/expand info box by tapping |hide| at top left
  • quickly toggle all the agencies on/off using button at top right
  • search (case insensitive) and filter agencies that show up in checkbox list using search box at top right, e.g. type in monterey
  • search (cAsE sEnsITivE) and filter actual routes and stops that show up on map using search boxes at bottom right, e.g. type in 23, 5, 25, and in the bay you also have results for Rail, Tram, Subway
    • play around with this and see how results change when you type in the same thing in the upper box versus lower box
  • link back to homepage in case you can't figure something out or want more tips also at bottom right

To play with the map search and filter, try this:

  • zoom out all the way
  • select the Show Stops option (top right)
  • type -120 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)
  • type -121 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)
  • type -122 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)
  • type -123 in the partial match search box (bottom box in bottom right)

Another interesting thing is you can link to specific spots by copying the url directly:

I arranged the agency checkbox list (top right) by area, so the geographic area of an agency determines the agency layer checkbox position. The list starts with agencies in the North Bay in Solano County then goes counterclockwise: North Bay -> San Francisco -> Peninsula -> South Bay -> Santa Cruz -> Monterey-Salinas -> Gilroy/Hollister -> East Bay.

There are smaller agencies in the bay that are completely free (no fare) and not as well known like Presidio Go, Golden Gate Park Shuttle, Mission Bay Shuttle, South City Shuttle, commute.org shuttles, MVgo, Mountain View Community Shuttle, San Leandro LINKS, Emery Express, and Emery Go Round. If you're traveling around those areas, these agencies could help fill in some transit gaps.

Let me know if anything doesn't work (corp network/vpn/firewalls might not work) or you have any questions/requests!

🤡 Latest scare tactics sent out by “Yes on Measure H” 🤡

🤡 Referencing “Defund The Police” & getting an endorsement from a former police chief as scare tactics. 🤡

Dennis Donohue is a Yes on Measure H, but is too much of a coward to publicly state it so he doesn’t lose votes. Please don’t vote for him.

A bunch of non 93905ers and YT washed “Latinos” who want to be important so bad that they sell out for a sense of belonging. Amor Salinas they say.

Best WiFi for Prunedale?

Ok I know Prunedale isn’t part of Salinas (aside from sharing the 93907 zip code) but any recommendations out there for more reliable WiFi/internet that I can try to persuade my dad to switch to? He currently has AT&T U-verse and has had it for a while. When I come to visit and need to work remotely for my job the connection is shit. I don’t know if fiber optics would be available/affordable now (in the past it wasn’t) or if satellite internet would be better (their house is somewhat remote and hard to access from main roads/utilities). Thanks for any recs!
