New title tagging rule & Spammers

As some regulars here may have noticed, this subreddit recieves an astronomical amount of spam, both from human as well as bot spammers, for it's relatively small size. Coming from modding various large subreddits, including one that's literally about products, this amount of spam is not normal. Despite a lot of our less agressive attempts to filter out spam (example, filtering out posts that say "for sale", "rent", or "Services") we still get quite a lot that slip by.

[1] [2] [3]

Why is this subreddit getting so much spam? Who knows. ¯\(°_o)/¯

But we will be resorting to the one thing that has worked for various larger communities, like r/food : mandatory title tags.

From now on, all posts will require at least a tag of one of the below:

[Self]
[Found]
[Help]

You may add words to the tags like:

[I found] this chicken carved out of abestos!

or

[Help me] carve a chicken out of abestos

For flexibility, but the bare minimum requirement for post titles will be that it must contain one of those words surrounded by brackets.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to modmail us, or ask here.

I was getting frustrated trying to make the face beautiful and failing so I decided to just blindfold her. At the end of the day, Im happy with it overall. I’ll be working on facial anatomy in the future…

Self (Complete) [Self] Cemí I — horned form, papier-mâché and a connection to Puerto Rico

Post image

I’m Henry, an artist working in Brooklyn. This is Cemí I, the first sculpture in a series I began in 2024.

The horn forms come from the vejigante masks of Ponce, Puerto Rico. I brought one home from a childhood visit to the island and kept it in my room for years. I always felt it watched over me. That feeling is still part of what I’m exploring in these sculptures: the spiritual life of an object, and how something we live with can come to hold a presence.

I build the armature from recycled delivery cardboard, cover it in papier-mâché, then layer heavy-body acrylic and raised dots, each applied by hand. The repetition is where a lot of the work happens for me—attention, intention, and noticing when my own balance shifts.

My mother is Puerto Rican, and making this work has become one way of tracing a connection to the island that I’m now studying more deliberately. I’m interested in hearing from other sculptors whose personal histories find their way into their materials and forms.

Has making ever helped you recognize something about where you come from?

How is it? I would love some suggestions as to how I can avoid the clay to dry so quickly as I need a lot of time to shape it.

I used mouldit clay for these.

[self] VESSEL: GEOLOGICAL I — One of a Kind Sculpture by Sergey Kostychev

VESSEL: GEOLOGICAL I is a one-of-a-kind sculptural object exploring the relationship between geometric structure, containment and natural material.

A cylindrical plaster form contains a fragment of geological material concealed within its solid mass. The vessel was physically fractured to expose the stone, leaving the contrast between the controlled exterior and irregular interior intact.

The remaining cylindrical structure suggests a functional container, while the exposed geological fragment disrupts its ordered geometry and reveals a material history beyond the manufactured form. The fracture is preserved as evidence of the physical process rather than repaired or concealed.

VESSEL: GEOLOGICAL I is part of an ongoing body of work exploring geometric structures, embedded materials and the transformation of controlled forms through physical intervention.

I first built the armature using thick galvanized wire, securely anchored to a wooden base. Then, I began sculpting with air-dry porcelain clay. The overall anatomy and proportions are now established, and I’m currently refining the finer details, bringing the lion’s character and presence to life, one detail at a time. 🦁

Help (WIP) [Help] What materials do I use for this statue?

This is my first time taking on a project like this and while im excited I’m nervous. I’m going to restore the paint on this guy, I want to sand it a bit use primer, spray paint and a protective finish but the owner doesn’t know what kind of material that the lion is made out of and neither do I. He guessed that it’s a resin statue? What paint and finish will be suitable? Thanks
