Subaru considers 12V warning during DCFC/preconditioning: "normal"?
I have a 2026 Solterra Premium, bought new in February. Since the July recall software update (WRG-26), I've been getting a "Low Battery, Turn Power OFF" warning during DC fast charging and remote preconditioning/app-based remote start. It also appears in accessory mode.
The warnings during DCFC and preconditioning weren't happening when I bought the car. I'm not saying the update is a proven cause, but that's when the behavior changed.
The car was at the dealer three times and received multiple software updates/reinstalls. The repair order says: "Low battery warning still present after update advised customer vehicle operating as designed." Which seems quite confusing to me.
The dealer told me they couldn't test DC fast charging. They also told me Subaru Techline acknowledged the issue but couldn't find a 12V fault or offer a solution. That's what I was told; the repair order itself doesn't document the Techline discussion or DCFC testing.
Subaru has now closed my case after internal review and declined buyback or replacement. Their explanation to me focused on accessory mode draining the battery, which doesn't answer my question about the warning during fast charging and preconditioning. My customer advocate was helpful and professional, but I still don't have a technical explanation or a fix.
I'd prefer to have my current car fixed. If there's a known issue and a fix is being developed, that would be a different conversation from being told this is expected behavior.
Has anyone else seen this during DCFC or remote preconditioning, especially after the recall update? Did your dealer find a cause or do anything that stopped it? If you were told it's normal, did anyone explain why? I'd really like to have a car where I can trust the 12v battery warnings, especially if the 12v dies, the car turns into a brick.
Does anyone have any suggestions on the way forward to get my car fixed now that Subaru has said that 12V battery errors during charging are normal? Does Subaru have any sort of executive customer service like GM has?
