Builds Hi folks, hope life is good with you all!
So I had a tent going a few years ago in our rented home and that garden office has roof issues that the landlord has dragged out fixing so it's moldy and damp AF in there. I'm at a point where I'm desperate to grow my own and a small in the bedroom kinda solution is what I will need.
I'm thinking along the lines of getting something like wooden furniture that I could turn into a grow box. During the summer I got the idea for an outdoor planter for vegtables and herbs and thought it would be smart to get timber and char it so as to prevent bugs and mice etc from trying to climb up.
So this got me thinking for an indoor grow box and using the same idea for the inside of the box. Mold, bugs etc will not touch charred wood same goes for anything microscopic if I recall correctly, please correct me if I'm wrong?
The idea was to either buy a used dresser or something similar or maybe built one and char the inside and brush/sand any loose stuff left and clean it. Then I would staple or pin some foil for light reflection.
For extraction I would maybe use the small Secret Jardin inline extraction fan that has adjustable temp and humidity controllers built in or possibly build my own one that can run at a lower decibel seeing as I will have to keep it in my room.
I already have 2 Noctua PC fans with a controller that I can mount inside for circulation and for the intake I was thinking of a charcoal filter for a kitchen-fan extractor or the charcoal cabin filters for cars ( I think the car filters last longer?) Reason for one on the intake is in case the landlord visits and I can switch of the extractor and throw a large clothe over the unit and put a table lamp on top of it to hide it and make it "blend in".
Do any of these ideas sound good or are they too much etc? I live in Ireland and we have very damp weather all year round and during the winter months the house gets a lot of spiders looking for shelter which was the biggest issue with my tent along with risk of mold.
