I've had this Gen 2 system for years. Been great. 8-ish months ago, lost connection and narrowed it down to the cable between the dish and router. Starlink no longer sells Gen 2 cables, so I got one on Amazon. Life was good until yesterday.
Xfinity advertised an upcoming outage so I pulled the dish out (I don't use it at home, only on the road) fired it up and had Internet working for half a day. It even did a firmware update right after powering on. Then in the afternoon - nothing. No internet. Router alive. Can connect to the Starlink AP, just no uplink to Internet.
Factory reset router. Nothing, still alive but no internet. Suspected another bad cable, so I pulled out the back-up also from Amazon. This time, dish moved - from dead-fish, to down and back to dead-fish. (So the cable is somewhat functional.) but still Starlink AP alive and no internet.
Dayum. Fiddle some more, check prices of new systems. Then head down to open a ticket w/ Starlink. Right after question 2, grok ?knows? that the cable between my router and dish is bad. [ How? I didn't tell it that, just that I had lost Internet. ]
Grok offers up a nice deal on a new-ish Gen 4 system, so I took them up on their offer. But still. Why did it work well enough to download an update and give me Internet for an hour or so? Then die? How did grok know the cable was bad?
Firmware update to maybe get Gen 2 systems off their network??? Pass the tin-foil please.
