Recently moved to Thousand Oaks (early 20s). Looking for a bar or club with a Halloween party this Saturday. Anything good nearby, or is it worth driving to Ventura/LA? Thanks! 🎃

Any recommendations for an awesome in-home elementary school tutor in Newbury Park?

I know, I know… I could ask one of the local Facebook parent groups, but, my mental health prevents me from going on FB.

We’re looking for a patient, engaging tutor for our sweet, VERY energetic 6-year-old boy. He’s a bright kid who genuinely wants to learn and do well, but staying focused can be a challenge, especially in the traditional tutoring center environment. We’ve tried that route, and it’s just not a great fit for him.

Ideally, we’d love someone who can come to our home once or twice a week and make learning fun, interactive, and productive. Someone experienced with younger elementary kids who have lots of energy and shorter attention spans would be ideal.

We’re absolutely open to college students studying education, experienced tutors, or anyone who’s particularly great with this age group.

Would love personal recommendations if you’ve worked with someone. Or if you know someone who might be a good fit, please send them my way.

Thanks, neighbors!

Thinking of trying Masters Barber & Shave for a skin fade. Anyone been? How was the experience, and what would you recommend asking for?

Are there any streets that decorate for Halloween?!

I used to live in Burbank and there were so many streets that were fully decked out for Halloween! Do we have anything like that here in TO/NP/AH?

Thank you! 👻🎃

Early Voting and Prop 5!

I just voted today!

https://clerkrecorder.venturacounty.gov/elections/elections/vote-centers/#docaccess-b684b4e447b38fe9631e1ec84b88ff1b

You'll find your list of early voting places here. I went to the Best Westin.

I was reading articles and the Secretary of State pointed out that most people return their mail in voting on Nov 3, which doesn't actually help anyone. And that the best thing you can do is vote early so as many votes will get to the counters and we will get the counting done quicker.

I also heard an interesting point on prop 5. Prop 5 prevents something like the Newsom recall we had recently. But, prop 5 would also prevent us from turning around and doing the same to, say, Steve Hiltons in the future. We'll probably have another recall attempt, but you never know what the future holds!

A second rabid raccoon was found in a Westlake Village backyard, weeks after LA County's first rabid raccoon since 1973

Same neighborhood, second raccoon, and this one was acting sick and aggressive. Two people may have been exposed, and the county has hit a record number of rabid bats this year. Here's what's going on, why health officials think bats are behind it, and the simple steps that protect your pets and kids.

Permit for remodel required

Hello,

I am interested in a house that has a full kitchen and bathroom remodel. I asked the sellers for information on the remodel and they sent me a word document with a list of everything they did. They claimed permits were not required since it was all cosmetic.

Here are a few details I am concerned about. Because this remodel also included extensive pumbling and electrical work wouldn't this require a permit? Would you walk away. Let me know what you think if this is normal. I am having an home inspector check the work out tomorrow.

  1. Replacement of cast-iron drainage pipes with ABS - Significant drainage-system work, potentially concealed
  2. New sewer lines serving two upstairs toilets - Suggests new or altered drainage connections
  3.  New water main and regulator - Scope and permit requirements need clarification
  4. Extensive electrical work and new wiring - Multiple new installations and alterations
  5. Bathroom plumbing and shower valves - Depends on what was replaced, relocated, or altered

thanks for reading!

Boardgames & Murder Mysteries

Hello, everyone! I'm starting a small business that has been a dream of mine. I'm renting boardgames from my collection and also hosting exclusive murder mystery parties (designed by me). If you like games and want to know more, please follow me on instagram: @yourturngames_ca

If you don't care for games but want to help a chronically ill girl make her small business grow so I can continue to pay for my treatment, every like, share and comment is appreciated 🫰

And for those who love boardgames and want to find people to play with, send me a message! We could start a group chat to find friends to play with :)

Thinking about moving to TO

Hi,

My wife and I are currently looking a townhome in TO, the Los Robles hills area to be specific. We are currently renting in the Palisades. But we also just had our first, and only child. He is seven weeks old. We found a townhome that is a good price and we like it. I grew up mostly in the SFV (Sherman Oaks) but had friends grow up in TO and had a great childhood. My wife is from New Orleans but moved to LA right before we got married.

Obviously safety and schools are important. From everything I read, TO is one of the safest cities in the country and the public school system is quite good. But would love to hear from current or former residents.

My wife is currently a SAHM who will eventually look for work once our son gets a little older. I mainly work from home. I do have to go to either Universal or Playa vista occasionally, and I do a few trips to New York a year. So I do not think commute will be a huge issue.

We have a few friends close, as well as family, so we do not feel like we will lose our support group. But also good to make new friends, especially through parenting groups.

Any insight that one can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Adult soccer options

Hello,

25M and have played soccer my whole life. My frequency has decreased over the last several years, and I'm looking for ways to play soccer again.

I've researched a few options, including AYSO adult leagues, PIZO soccer, and MeetUp. I'd appreciate feedback on what others think and recommend. PIZO has a lot of games, but most are in the Los Angeles area. They are also low-commitment, since you only pay for the individual game, whereas AYSO adult requires payment for the entire season.

AYSO Region 9 adult soccer also isn't feasible, since I'm looking to sign up individually and don't have a team. AYSO adult soccer in Camarillo is the only feasible option on that route.

Anyway, any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all in advance.

Vent- SoCal Edison, you can turn the power on now. 😉

We’ve had WAY worse Santa Ana’s than this over the years, and did they turn the power off? Nope. Should they have? Maybe.

All I know is there is barely a breeze outside and the food in my fridge/freezer is getting warmer by the hour.

How about we apply some common sense and turn the power OFF when there are 80+mph winds in Altadena, and leave it ON when we have a minor wind event. This feels like a lot to ask.

Obviously I’d rather have no power than no house, just asking for a little balance.
