I need to ask this because there have now been multiple people in my life telling me that my relationship with food is concerning. In particular a girl I was seeing in the summer with a history of serious disordered eating said that she thought that I had one and a lot of my actions were (unintentionally) really triggering for her. I didn’t understand what she meant at the time but I'm starting to think she might have been right.
For context, I weigh and track every calorie and macro that I eat. I workout basically every day, I track my steps, I weigh myself every morning. I've had a large fitness transformation in the last 9 months as a result of a lot of these actions.
Then I got a dexa scan a couple weeks ago and it read 19% (I am a man). I was disgusted, but more than that I was furious. I was so angry for trying so hard to be lean and failing. Even though, I must've been around 35% body fat when I started dieting, so to someone on the outside it should've been a win.
Once I got home I told myself I would no longer eat another single ounce of "fun food". I cut out all alcohol (probably the only good thing to come of this) and anything with calories I didn’t deem absolutely necessary. I did take a semi moderate dose of a strong glp-1 drug, when I got home I doubled the dose. I don't feel hungry anymore. And to be honest I am far more excited to take more of that drug than I am to put any more food down my throat.
I'm eating in a very steep deficit now, beacuse the last one I was on stopped working for me and I knew if I wanted to keep getting leaner I had to push it further than I ever have. I've never felt sick from dieting before but I feel like shit all the time now. It's like I have the flu, I'm so tired, I'm really cold, my skin hurts all over, I feel weak. The idea of eating anything that's not a protein shake or a tiny snack makes me want to barf, physically and emotionally.
Right now, I feel like I can't get food out of my head. The process of eating is becoming more and more emotional for me. I feel guilty about every meal now. I had a poutine yesterday cause I was out with my friends, and even though it was practically the only thing I ate the entire day I felt disgusted with myself.
Typing this out makes me want to cry cause I know it's bad but I don't know how this happened and I think I've been in denial for a long time.
The problem is my actions make me look better. I know they do. If you saw a photo of me from 9 months ago compared to now you would probably think I was lying about the timeline, because I look like a completely different person (In a good way, I am more muscular as well as having lost a lot of fat). I'm smart enough to force myself to eat just enough that I don't lose much muscle and it's the fat that's leaving cause that's the whole point. And I feel like people like me more when I look good. And I like me more when I look good. And I need to look better, cause where I'm at right now isn't acceptable to me. Even if other people tell me I am looking good, it’s not enough.
I don't know how to start the process of feeling better about food. I want to have a healthy relationship with food. I want to be able to enjoy a fucking poutine with my friends without feeling like a fat disgusting pig. I don't know who to tell this to and I'm scared of being told I'm overreacting because I don't look like what people picture when they think of somebody with an eating disorder.
If anyone has been through something like this, what was your first step, and what helped you?
