Found in Milford State Park. These seem to be very common in the area, and I would love to cultivate my own, possibly as a bonsai far into the future.

Suspect it's a poplar. Tenaciously growing out of a crack in a rock on the Niagara River shoreline. About a meter from the current river level, which fluctuates. Haven't had a hard frost yet but leaves are turning now.

Advice Request - (Insert State/Region) White Oak (dropping bark / veins)

Hi all,

I believe this is a white oak (chestnut) tree in my yard (NJ) is dying. This late summer I mulched possibly a little to close to the tree.

I lost roughly 30-40% of the flair’s bark in two different places.

Will this tree die? Is there anything I should be doing?

It looks like a large vein is growing behind the bark that has dropped in both places.

Advice Request - (Insert State/Region) Is this buried to deep?

I just planted this tree and June/July 2026. Long story short i was watering it the other day when a guy walking by told me that it was buried to deep. He told me that he was a retired landscaper and told me what to do. So my question is is this buried to deep? FYI the mulch was more like a doughnut shape around the tree base but just moved it so you guys could see the root bulb/flare. TYA

Series: Murder drones episode 4 - cabin fever

The cold climate likely doesn’t matter since the entire planet is forever cold due to a core collapse partial-explosion. Sunlight does come out, but all the lakes are seemingly forever frozen as well. I assume the trees are petrified is why they aren’t dead & decomposing yet.

No location is given within the series, & the planet isn’t earth but all the trees are the equivalent of earth’s trees (there are no new fictional trees in the series, making these trees potentially identifiable).

Image 1 & 2 (full view), image 3 (front view), image 4 (bottom view), image 5 (closer bottom view), image 6 (top view from the sky), image 7 (the trees compared to a cabin).

Additionally if this is the wrong sub, where donI post this at?

Foliage is about 15 feet up so I couldn’t get a very good pic. It’s in a patch of sumac about 10 ft from a black walnut . The 2nd photo you can see it above the sumac, next to a black walnut that’s on the right and completely bare. Trunk is approximately 8 inches wide, best guess is it’s 35ft tall. Any ID help would be appreciated!

Advice Request - (Insert State/Region) Dwarf Chinkapin Oak Central PA

This is my second post as I couldn't figure out how to properly edit my original post to comply with community rules. I live in Central Pennsylvania and planted a potted Dwarf Chinkapin Oak yesterday. There is a pretty severe kink or curvature at the base of the trunk that circles around the straight portion of the tree trunk. I have planted 8 more of these around my property and haven't found this sort of malformed trunk on any of the other trees. Do others here feel this will girdle the trunk or create a weak failure prone spot down the line a few years? In another community a member posted they felt it would grow together over time. Comments appreciated.

I planted this tree around 3 years ago which was less than 6 ft. It grew double in height. Till last year, it was healthy but didn't have any fruiting. (Old pic at last).

During may this year it had small fruits that all fell before maturing. It got many insects for which I was late in putting insecticide, I guess that was the reason of fruits not growing big.

About 2 months back its leaves started falling and now it's like this, no leaves. What should I do? Should I prune the branches? Put any fertilizer?

Advice Request - (Insert State/Region) Should We Trim Our Avocado Tree

Post image
2 Upvotes

Read some advice somewhere that, due to how lanky our avocado tree has been looking ever since winter caused it to lose lots of leaves, we should trim the top of it so that it doesn't grow weird or fall over.

Should I do this I would cut down to the next branch and wait until it's colder to do so. Is this a bad idea?

Advice Request - (Insert State/Region) Can I cut this large tree root that's blocking street drainage without killing the tree?

Located in Sacramento, California.

I have a large, mature tree in front of my house with a substantial root growing over the curb and into the street. The root is blocking water from draining down the gutter, causing standing water and debris to accumulate.

I’m considering cutting the exposed portion of the root to restore proper drainage, but I’m concerned about damaging the tree, potentially killing it, or compromising its stability.

I’m not sure how old the tree is, but it’s well established.

My questions:
Would cutting this particular root seriously harm the tree?
Does this look like a major structural root?
Is there a better way to address the drainage issue without damaging the tree?

I’d really appreciate advice from arborists or anyone who’s dealt with something similar. I definitely want to preserve the tree if possible.

Advice Request - (Insert State/Region) Taming branch growth - North TX

I know next to nothing about growing beautiful plants. Recently moved into my home, but this tree seems more unruly than my neighbors’ (they all have the same tree it looks like).

How can I help the tree grow fuller branches and combat the unruly growth patterns? I’ve tried trimming once before when it looked like there were some dead dry branches. Many of my neighbors’ seem to be growing straight up or diagonally upward without bracing.

For reference, moved in 6 months ago. North Texas. I have my rain bird set to water 5 minutes per zone every 2 days. Still sitting on the same mulch from when we moved in. Not adding any fertilizer to the lawn yet although planning to. My guess is that the tree could be competing heavily with the surrounding grass for water.

Also, do yall know what species this is?
