News Cornerstone Grill & Loft facing 90-day liquor license suspension before Halloween
Cornerstone Grill & Loft may not serve alcohol for 90 days beginning Friday — the day before Halloween — after the Prince George’s County Board of License Commissioners suspended its liquor license last week.
The establishment will also be required to pay a $7,500 fine along with the suspension, according to a Monday email from Terence Sheppard, the board’s director. The board suspended the license after finding the establishment had presented a “Threat to the Peace and Safety,” based on video evidence and testimony from four University of Maryland police officers.
Cornerstone’s attorney has asked the board to temporarily pause the decision for 90 days, allowing the establishment time to appeal the charges and file a petition for judicial review, according to Sheppard. The board will hold a meeting on Tuesday, where it will consider the restaurant and bar’s request. But Sheppard noted this request only delays punishment and is separate from the board’s underlying decision.
Cornerstone owner Mark Srour declined to comment on Monday amid the ongoing board proceedings.
The board may suspend a liquor license for “the commission of any act by the licensee, his/her agents or employees that constitutes a danger to the peace and safety of the neighborhood,” according to county regulations. The board first addressed the charges during meetings on Sept. 9 and again on Oct. 14, according to county documents.
