Best stage from my 3rd USPSA match, filmed on a $35 hat camera.

I don't get to shoot much, just in a very busy stage of my life. But I've gotten to 3 matches since I started USPSA 11 months ago. Definitely feels like I'm getting a feel for things. Obviously a lot to improve on still. Also I had too much momentum for my front mag, which went flying on the run up. Guess that retention was a bit loose šŸ˜….

Anyway. 69.40% of the top carry optics guy.

Canik Rival-S in LO: Recent reliability & real-world feedback

Looking to move from polymer to steel for Limited Optics. Just shot my first match with an Echelon in CO and realized I need a heavy steel frame to settle down recoil. Considering the Rival-S.

You guys actually running them hard in matches:
1. How has reliability been with recent production runs?

  1. Any major things to watch out for out of the box regarding springs or mags?
    Appreciate any direct feedback.

New to comp help

Just picked up a 2011 for limited optics. I have never completed apart from some ā€œcomp likeā€ courses of fire at the range with the boys.

Is a light mounted gas pedal legal for limited optics? Dont have one but interested is all. Thanks for any help!

I built an AI-powered Steel Challenge analysis tool. It's way more than a typical shot timer. Looking for beta testers!

Hey everyone!

I'm a competitive Steel Challenge shooter and a data scientist/AI engineer. For a while, I've been working on something I think this community might find pretty interesting.

It's called Steel Challenge Analysis (SCA), developed through my company, Blackwatch Analytics.

The idea came from something that always bothered me about analyzing matches.

A shot timer tells me my time, but it doesn't tell me WHY I got that time.

Was my draw slow? Did I spend too much time transitioning between two particular plates? Did a makeup shot destroy an otherwise great string? What should I actually practice before my next match?

So I decided to build something that could answer those questions.

Here's what SCA does:

  • Uses AI and computer vision to analyze actual shooting footage.
  • Recognizes Steel Challenge stages and identifies individual steel targets.
  • Detects shots and calculates shot timing and splits from video/audio.
  • Analyzes target engagement, potential misses, makeup shots, and transitions.
  • Produces annotated video so you can review what happened.
  • Generates detailed performance reports with AI-driven observations and practice recommendations.
  • Helps identify where you're losing time instead of just showing your final score.
  • Provides reports and results you can share with other shooters.

Think of it as turning match footage into a performance analysis session.

And unlike a traditional shot timer, it uses the video of your actual performance to build a more complete picture.

It's still in beta. I know there will be situations the AI gets wrong, and that's exactly why I want experienced shooters involved.

I'm looking for beta testers who want 2–3 MONTHS OF FREE ACCESS.

All I ask is that you put it through its paces, upload some Steel Challenge footage, and tell me what works, what sucks, and what you'd like to see improved.

I'm particularly interested in feedback on shot detection accuracy, plate identification, and whether the reports actually help you improve.

You can check out the project here:

https://blackwatchanalytics.com/

DM me if you'd like beta access!

I'd love to get some serious competitive shooters involved in building this into something genuinely useful.

First Time Competitor - Questions

I’ve shot on and off for a few years and just over the past couple months have been taking it more seriously. Friend of mine is looking to compete in her first USPSA match and I figured it’d be fun to look into.

I carry a VP9CC with the Vortex optic and also have the original VP9 that has the finger grooves but already came optics ready.

Questions are the following:
- Should I try shooting the VP9 first? Bigger gun likely makes it easier, but I have enjoyed using my optic and it helps when dry firing to see what I’m doing wrong.

- In the same vein, any particular recommendations for an optic on my VP9? I don’t want to cheap out since I’d likely use it as a carry gun as well as I slim down and have the ability to carry a bigger gun. But I’ve heard good things about some of the Holosuns.

- Any specific recommendations currently for a belt for beginners? I would need to buy an OWB holster likely and some extra mag carriers. I only have my IWB setup as of now.

- I see some magazines for both of these guns on sale - for my VP9, would y’all recommend the 20rd mags or stick with 17?

Thank you!

Cz shadow 2 SA dry fire and compatibility with mantis x3

Hi everyone, was wondering how you guys running the S2 are practicing single action dry fire. As this is a fundamental i need more practice with. I'm doing the O-ring trick but are you guys cocking the hammer for every rep of dry fire?

Also I have a mantis x3 and it keeps picking up the click on the double action and giving me false readings, ive played with the sensitivity and haven't found a good setting yet. Any tips on what setting work good for you would be appreciated!

Practicing double taps today, any tips?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Practicing double taps today, there’s a lot of outliers because of my grip towards the end of the session but how’d I do? This is from 10 yards. I’m finding my red dot a lot quicker now on resets so I tried going fast today. EDIT: My issue is more with speed at longer distances, I left a picture of my groupings at 7 yards with a more controlled speed in the comments.

Trying out my brand new CGW Shadow 2 in comp

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Got to test out my new Shadow 2 in competition this weekend. I'm definitely not the greatest shooter but I'm working on it. The gun is brand new, barely 100 rounds through it, so the mags aren't dropping free yet. The mag brake and mag catch are still tight and just need break-in, which is pretty normal on a new CZ.

I'll take any feedback anyone's willing to give. And yes, I know I reload weird. I'm breaking the habit from a giant 2011 I couldn't reload with my dominant hand, so I had to use my support hand.

USPSA- How to start?

Hello everyone,

I live in Florida, near Orlando, and I'm thinking about starting to shoot in the Production and Production Optics divisions.

I already have some gear (a belt, holster, and pouches) along with two guns: a CZ Shadow 2 and a Glock 17 Gen 6.

My biggest questions are how to find a trainer and how to become a USPSA member so I can attend competitions.

I'd also appreciate any other advice you could give a newbie in practical shooting.

First Match Tonight

I’m hooked! First couple stages were a little nerve-racking and forgot about a target in both stages but after that, things calmed down.

Gonna mess around with my red dot sizing. Had a little trouble picking up the dot at the start of the stages. Used a 2 MOA setting. May try a 6 MOA setting or use the multi-reticle option if 2 MOA w/ 32 MOA circle (which is really like and have on my HD).

Either way, had a blast and most importantly, was safe.
